A study on the process capability of machining process (기계가공공정(機械加工工程)의 공정능력(工程能力)에 대(對)한 연구(硏究))

  • The research on the process capability is the basis for quality design, operation standard and so on. In this study, histogram of the measured value for the cutting process and calculation of the capability factor Cp are established, resulting in the classification of 4 grades, and necessary measures for them are presented. The advancement of productivity is the most significant result of this study. The processing time per piece for those stabilized processes having the capability factor 1.33 and above is lessened, and the advancement in quantity capability is made possible permitting dispersion of standard up to the tolerance limit. The exact knowledge of process capability is most important for the quality design system. For the efficient application of this result of the research, a systematic and positive cooperation by the whole company members is needed.

  • It has lately been recognized that the sharing and exchanging of the research results information is the critical factor to improve the research productivity. So many institutions are planning or developing the information systems which provide the research information services for researcher. But it has very difficulty in integrating the research resources information due to the dispersion and heterogeneity in data sources, and semantic and structural difference in describing data. We propose the semantic web based methodology and conceptual framework for raising the interoperability of metadata about research results information, which will support the integration of the distributed research data for information services in the end. Finally we proposed the conceptual architecture of research information service system which shows the main components, the functional requirements, and the principal and design direction at implementing the system.

  • Accurate counting and packaging pills is one of the most fundamental works of the pharmaceutical industry. But it is so labor consuming and very hard to be automated. As the pharmaceutical industry is growing bigger, the need of counting and packaging automation is increasing to obtain effective mass production. Precise and quick sensing is required in the counting and processing of quickly dropping pills to improve the productivity. There are many trials for this automation and automatic machine. But the performance of the existing counting machine varies with the size, shape and the dispersion degree of pills In this research, authors design the counting and packing machine of medicinal pills that is more accurate and highly trustworthy After getting analog signal from optical sensor, pill passage is discriminated from chosen characteristic feature using microprocessor.

Effect of manufacturing and dispersion of zinc crystalline glaze on crystal formation (아연 결정유약의 제조 및 분산이 결정생성에 미치는 영향)

  • In the ceramic industry, a drastic decrease in crystalline formation was found even among the glazes well known for their high crystalline productivity when the ceramic glaze was stored in wet conditions over a period. This study aimed to investigate the reason for decreasing willemite crystals during storage. As the starting materials ZnO, calcined ZnO and frit 3110 are selected; the composition for zinc crystalline glazes was set through a three-component system with the materials. The firing condition was used from previous studies. The study was observed how wet conditions affected the crystallization of zinc crystalline glazes from a day to 24 weeks. The results were obtained by particle size analysis, XRD, Raman spectroscopy and SEM analysis. The results indicated that ZnO is advantageous in terms of willemite crystalline development and growth; however, Zn(OH)2 cluster, formed by the reaction with water during the storage, caused the decrease in ZnO level in the glaze. The reduction of ZnO in the glaze eventually interfered the willemite development and growth.

  • It is very important for the competitiveness and sustainable management of enterprises that the rapid changes in the managerial environments quickly and accurately are responded. For example, the large-scale investment accompanied by bad alternatives in accordance with misunderstanding of the managerial environments yields the huge cost and effort to modify and improve. In firm management, the quality of products and the productivity are influenced by changes of the endogenous factors yielded in manufacturing process and the exogenous factors as market, etc. These changes include not only changes in 4M (man, machine, material, method) but also those in the market, competitors, and technologies in the process of commodification, i.e., first, such disturbances make dispersion of the process big and odd. By Shewhart chart it can be checked that the process monitored is control-in or out. Business administration executes activities for input stabilization by monitoring changes in 4Ms, comparing with the standards, and taking measures for any abnormality. Second, TRM (technology road map) is to prospect product deployment and technological trend by predicting technologies in the competitive environment as the market, and to suggest the future directions of business. So, TRM must be modified and improved according to DR (design review) stages and changes in mass-production like input material change. Therefore, a role of TRM in input stabilization for reducing cost and man-hour is important. This study purposed to suggest that the environment changes are classified into endogenous factors and exogenous factors in production process, and then, quality and productivity should be stabilized efficiently through connection between TRM and input stabilization, and to prove that it is more effective for the display industry to connect TRM with input stabilization rather than to use TRM separately.

The single crystal growth of various colored cubic zirconia for jewelry (다양한 색의 보석용 큐빅 지르코니아 단결정 성장)

  • The various colored cubic zirconia single crystals for jewelry were grown by skull melting method of excellent productivity. The cubic zirconia is similar to the character of diamond, which has high refractive index, large dispersion and high hardness. It is possible that the development of new colored cubic zirconia by doping 3d-transition elements or 4f-rare earth elements. The colored cubic zirconia is representative of synthetic gemstone which was grown up by mixing one or over two materials among $Pr_6O_{11},\;TiO_2,\;MnO_2\;and\;Er_2O_3$ as coloring agent. Subsequent heat treatment improves the quality of color and uniformity. This study is aimed the color reappearance of cubic zirconia such as natural peridot, smoky-quartz and red-tourmaline.

A Review of Scientific Evidence on Indoor Air of School Building: Pollutants, Sources, Health Effects and Management

  • Schools are one of the critical social infrastructures in a society, the first place for social activity and the most important indoor environment for children besides the home. Poor IAQ in classrooms can increase the chance of long-term and short-term health problems for students and staffs; affects productivity of teachers; and degrade the student learning environment and comfort levels. The primary objective of this paper is to review and summarize available scientific evidence on indoor air quality of schools and related health effects in children. It was found that the indoor air pollutant levels in school buildings varied over a wide range in different parts of the world depending on site characteristics, climatic conditions, outdoor pollution levels, occupant activities, ventilation type and building practices. Among the indoor air pollutants, particulate matter concentrations were found to be very high in many schools. Outdoor pollutant sources also play a major role in affecting the IAQ of the school building. Hence, scientific knowledge on sources of indoor pollutants, quantification of emissions, temporal and spatial dispersion of pollutants, toxicological properties, chemical and morphological characteristics of the pollutants and associated health risk among children in the school buildings are essential to evaluate the adequacy and cost effectiveness of control strategies for mitigating the IAQ issues.

Academic Transfer, Self-Selection, and Returns to Education (대학편입, 자기선택, 교육투자 수익률에 관한 연구)

  • We investigate the type of self-selection arising in college transfer in Korea, and then estimate the returns to additional college education gained through transfers from junior colleges to four-year colleges or universities. In this paper, we show that academic transfer is consistent with a positive selection hypothesis, in a sense that students with characteristics correlated positively to productivity are more likely to transfer to four-year colleges from junior colleges. These empirical results also meet an underlying dispersion condition. In addition, we find that the transferred would make a statistically significant return to additional college education.

A High-resolution Numerical Simulation and Evaluation of Oak Pollen Dispersion Using the CMAQ-pollen Model (CMAQ-pollen 모델을 이용한 참나무 꽃가루 확산 고해상도 수치모의 및 검증)

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy and variability of the oak pollen concentrations over the Seoul metropolitan region (SMR) simulated by the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ)-based pollen dispersion model, which is the CMAQ-pollen model integrated with the improved oak pollen emission model(PEM-oak). The PEM-oak model developed is based on hourly emission flux parameterization that includes the effects of plant-specific release, meteorological adjustment, and diurnal variations of oak pollen concentrations. A 33 day-run for oak pollen simulation was conducted by the CMAQ-pollen model with a 3 km spatial resolution for the SMR during the 2014 spring pollen season. Modeled concentrations were evaluated against the hourly measurements at three Burkard sampling sites. Temporal variations of oak concentrations were largely well represented by the model, but the quantitative difference between simulations and measurements was found to be significant in some periods. The model results also showed that large variations in oak pollen concentrations existed in time and space and high concentrations in the SMR were closely associated with the regional transport under strong wind condition. This study showed the effective application of the CMAQ-pollen modeling system to simulate oak pollen concentration in the SMR. Our results could be helpful in providing information on allergenic pollen exposure. Further efforts are needed to further understand the oak pollen release characteristics such as interannual variation of the oak pollen productivity and its spatio-temporal flowering timing.

Ball end milling of sculptured surface models by considering machinability (절삭성을 고려한 자유곡면 모형의 볼 엔드 밀링가공에 관한 연구)

  • As compared with other cutting types, the ball end milling process causes a complexity in cutting system and a falling-off of machinability. In order to increase the productivity and efficiency in th NC machining of sculptured surfaces, this study carried out the qualitative linearized evaluation about the ball end milling system and applied their practical expressions to the technological processor at the cutter path planning stage. The evaluated expressions were proved to be adequate for practical use from an accuracy point of view and the estimation models were applied to sculptured surface machining processes for finding variable machining conditions. Consequently, it was recognized that variable machining conditions bring about the dispersion of force system and the reduction of machining time by more than 50%.
