  • This study was to investigate the effect of chitosan molecular weight, its charge density, and its surface coating treatment on the antibacterial properties of paper. For this study, E.coil was used for antibacterial experiment. Results obtained were as follows : 1. The antibacterial properties of chitosan was significant on the surface-treated sheet. 2. Antibacterial property surface treatment was appeared to be effective when film was formed on the paper surface. 3. The antibacterial properties of chitosan-treated paper was dependent on the amount and the molecular weight of chitosan used. The lower the molecular weight of the chitosan down to 30,000 the better the antibacterial properties in this experiment. 4. Determination of the degree of chitosan-deacetylation by colloidal titration method was consistent with the more complicated and conventional FT-IR method.

  • To obtain the relation in the electrochemical reduction of $CO_2$ in aqueous $KHCO_3$ colution between an activity for the product and the nature of Cu electrode, the electrode surface was characterized by using two methods: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoelectron emission (PE) measurement. Electrolyses were performed with Cu electrodes pretreated in several ways. The distribution of the products changed drastically with electrolysis time and the pretreatment method. The features in XPS spectra were closely connected with the product distribution. The oxide film at the electrode surface was gradually reduced to bare Cu metal with electrolysis time, resulting in a variation of the product distribution. PE was measured by verying the wavelength of incident light at several temperatures. The dependence of PE on the measurement temperature changed greatly before and after electrolysis.

  • To enhance the corrosion resistance of a bolt by surface treatment, dacrotization was considered as a substitute for phosphate coating which is widely used for general applications. In this study, comparisons were made among 5 different kinds of surface treatments including dacrotization and phosphate coating with respect to corrosion resistance, adhesion property with painting, and preload when tightened. The result shows that the dacrotized and surface-stabilized bolt is much superior in every aspects studied herein to others. An excellent corrosion resistance and a fairly good adhesion property with painting were achieved in the dacrotized and surface-stabilized bolt. When tightened at the same torque, the amount of preload and its deviation of dacrotized and surface-stabilized bolt were comparable with those of phosphate coated bolt.

  • A ceramic powder of destructive adsorbent was synthesized by impregnating copper and manganese on the surface of silica aerosil@. In-site FTIR measurements on pulses of malodorant tert-butylmercaptan injected over the powder showed that rert-butylmercaptan dimerized into di-tert-hutyldisulfide on the surface of the adsorbent in an ambient condition. GC/MS measurement on the gas over the adsorbent showed no tert-butylmercaptan remaining, and showed only the dimerization product of di-tert-butyldisulfide. Most of the dimerization product, di-tert-butyldisulfide,remained on the surface of the adsorbent as physisorbed condense, and apparently Iowered the destruction efficiency by blocking the surface from the access by tert-butylmercaptan. Upon being heated above $100^{\circ}C$ it was observed that the physisorbed di-tert-butyldisulfide dissociated back into tert-butylmercaptan. tert-butylmercaptan physisorbed on the activated carbon, thereby no dimerization was occurring on the surface of the activated carbon. In an argn environment, the dimerization reaction was practically not occurring even on the surface of the adsorbent, indicating the free oxygen in air was also participating in the dimerization reaction. Water was identified as a by-product of the dimerization reaction. Possible reactions on the surface of the adsorbent were proposed.

  • Today most companies are designing their automobile shapes by using 3 dimensional CAD software, CATIA. And they used to design 2 dimensional press dies to do some elastic work on their products, but they are currently trying to make use of dimensional software, Pro-Engineer. In this case, they have to change the 3 dimensional product design data to the proper format data for the following process. This paper will show the data loss and the deformation during data transfer between CATIA and Pro-Engineer, and then suggest a solution for these problems. Product's surface will be automatically placed by automatic press tipping angle setting in CATIA to prevent the product from being stuck in the press die. The 2 dimensional section view which is based on the tipping angle setting is created by Z-map. And, to remove the data loss and the data deformation in pro-Engineer, the product surface are delivered to the next process after it is changed to the 2 dimensional Z-map curves in CATIA. finally, this paper suggests an algorithm to develop the automatic design program for the press layout which regenerates product shape surface from the previous process.

  • The crystalline structure and leveling action on the deposit of zinc from the cyanide zinc electroplating bath containing organic additives, such as aldehydes, polymers, amines and condensed product, have been studied by microscope and X-ray diffraction methods. The crystalline structure of the deposit from the bath containing no-additive, polymers and aldehydes appeared very strong orientation on (101) plane and the surface was rough, while from condensed product having remarkable effects in brightness appeared very strong orientation on (110) and the crystallinity was very fine. In the leveling action, the effect of any additives except reaction product was not appreciable, whereas the effect of the reaction product obtained remarkably excellent result.

  • The twisting and extrusion process of the product with involute helical fin from the round billet is developed by the upper bound analysis. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. In the analysis, the internal shear surface is defined as the curved twisted plane from the taisting of die surface and the shear work is calculated by the consumption of shear energy The increase rate of angular velocity is determined by the minimization of plastic work. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product increases with the die twisting angle, the reduction of area, and decreases with the die length, the friction condition.

  • As a general index in surface quality of machined products, surface roughness is to measure worker's skill level, a ground product quality and machining accuracy, etc. The surface roughness is defined by a function of rotational speed and radius of a grinding wheel, distances of active grains composed of the wheel, and feed of a grinder's worktable. To predict surface roughness in horizontal surface grinding operations, probability distributions were used. Probability distribution functions(p.d.f.) of surface roughness were found as results when the size of active grains(=the radius of a grinding wheel) is given as uniform, exponential distribution, and the distance between active grains follows the distributions of uniform, exponential. For each pdf case, probabilistic features of surface roughness were also analyzed and presented. This study is a substantial step for determining mathematically the surface roughness instead of using empirical approaches. More works should be presented to develop a general model by which an accurate roughness value can be obtained in horizontal surface grinding operations.
