  • The main objective of this study is to develop RPC geometric correction module for the pre-processing systems of the satellite image. For this purpose, the Terrain-Independent Ⅰ, Terrain-Independent Ⅱ and Terrain-Dependent Ⅲ have been applied in tests with KOMPSAT-1 EOC and SPOT PAN images.

  • We propose the new algorithm for scene segmentation. The proposed system consists motion estimation module and motion segmentation module. The former estimates 2D-motion value for each pixel position from two images transformed by wavelet. The latter determine scene segments well fitting on dominant affine motion models. What distinguishes proposed algorithm from other methods is that it needs not other post-processing for scene segmentation. We can manipulate both multimedia data and objects in virtual environment using proposed algorithm.

  • A universal plasma-chemical module (PChM) for the industrial processing of different hydrocarbon raw material pyrolysis was designed and tested. Laboratory investigations for the plasma-chemical method of acetylene production from natural gas and different coals were made. Similar laboratory tests on the industrial production of acetylene as a raw material for organic syn-thesis were developed using the PChM. A comparison of the suggested plasma-chemical method with the traditional process of acetylene production were carried out. The outlook of the plasma-chemical method was shown.

  • The purpose of this study was the development of teat-cup attachment module for robot milking system. The teat-cups attachment module was controlled on the two dimensional space independently, Each teat cup of an end effector was independently controlled via two axis control based on the position information data obtained from the image processing system. This system was developed install of all 4 teat cups at the same time after adjusting positions of each teat sequentially. The individual motion system was operated using two servo motors for the high speed of teat position adjustment. The errors fur the individual motion system of teat cups were maximum 1.0mm, minimum 0.0mm, and average 0.6mm. The operating time for adjusting the teat cups position required about 1.0 second. It is envisaged that teat cups attachment module can be applicate to milking robot being developed in consideration of the experiment results for the teat cups operation accuracy and the actuation speed of servo motors.

  • In this research, we developed an practical service module as a application which operating on the smart phones based on the Android operating system. The service module supports on the voice processing function and inquiry windows also. After some documents and screens related on system analysis, service module are designed and implemented. The details about these modules are explained. We can expect to enhance the learning effects of english words memorizing competence for smart-phone users.

  • This paper presents an operator training simulator for power system restoration against massive black-out. The system is designed especially focused on the generality and convenient setting up for initial condition of simulation. The former is accomplished by using on line calculation methodology, and PSS/E data is used to define the initial situation. The proposed simulator consists of three major components - the Power flow(PF) module, data conversion(CONV) module and CUI subsystem. PF module calculates power flow, and then checks overvoltage of buses and overflow of lines. CONV module composes an Y-Bus array and a data base at each restoration action. The initial Y-Bus array is constructed from PSS/E data. The user friendly GUI module is developed including graphic editor and built-in operation manual. As a result, the maximum processing time for one step operation is 15 seconds, which is adequate for training purpose. Comparison with PSS/E simulation proves the accuracy and reliability of the training system.

Biologically inspired modular neural control for a leg-wheel hybrid robot

  • In this article we present modular neural control for a leg-wheel hybrid robot consisting of three legs with omnidirectional wheels. This neural control has four main modules having their functional origin in biological neural systems. A minimal recurrent control (MRC) module is for sensory signal processing and state memorization. Its outputs drive two front wheels while the rear wheel is controlled through a velocity regulating network (VRN) module. In parallel, a neural oscillator network module serves as a central pattern generator (CPG) controls leg movements for sidestepping. Stepping directions are achieved by a phase switching network (PSN) module. The combination of these modules generates various locomotion patterns and a reactive obstacle avoidance behavior. The behavior is driven by sensor inputs, to which additional neural preprocessing networks are applied. The complete neural circuitry is developed and tested using a physics simulation environment. This study verifies that the neural modules can serve a general purpose regardless of the robot's specific embodiment. We also believe that our neural modules can be important components for locomotion generation in other complex robotic systems or they can serve as useful modules for other module-based neural control applications.

  • In this study, an image processing algorithm with Lab VIEW IMAQ Module is presented and discussed for the development of a microscopic gap measuring system using CCD sensor. LabVIEW IMAQ development application that is developed by National Instrument Co. Inc. has a graphical interface and many image processing functions, so that it provides an easier environment for the development of a measurement algorithm using the image data. Actual microscopic gap measuring experiment was executed using the algorithm developed in this study and it showed a promising result. Also, we could obtain the convenience of Lab VIEW IMAQ in developing the algorithm.

  • The backlight unit (BLU) is used as a light source of TFT liquid-crystalline-display (TFT-LCD) module. In this backlight unit, one of important components is the light guide, which is usually made of transparent polymers. Currently, the screen-printing method is mainly used for the light guide as a manufacturing process. However, it has limitation to the flexibility of three-dimensional optical design. In the present paper a new alternative manufacturing method for the light guide with low-cost is proposed. This manufacturing method is named as direct surface forming (DSF), which is very similar to the well-known hot embossing except for partial contact between mold and substrate. The results of this new manufacturing method are presented in terms of processing condition, dimensional accuracy, productivity, etc.

  • A bonding process between tape-carrier package and a glass panel with anisotropic conductive film (ACF) has been investigated by making use of high power diode laser as a heat source for cure. The results from modeling of process and from optical properties of layers showed that heat absorbed from polyimide film surface and ACF layer is dominant source of curing during laser illumination. Laser ACF bonding has better bonding quality than conventional bonding in view of peel strength, flatness, pressure unbalance and processing time. New ACF bonding processes by making use of high power diode laser are proposed.
