  • The most important decision of process planning for the manufacturing system is the machine selection problem to minimize machining costs. Each machine has its own different machining performance indicating a different fraction of scrap, making the cost of scrap generated by machining is different for each machine. Therefore, when we decide on machine selection, we must consider the machining cost and the cost of scrap generated. This paper describes the statistical model for the fraction of scrap generated by machining and the machine selection algorithm considering the total cost including the machining cost and the cost of scrap generated.

  • Due to the advance of artificial intelligence, wide use of RPA(Robotic Process Automation) became inevitable. The purpose of this study is to seek cost management optimization based on RPA which has automatic collection of cost information, timeliness and flexibility. The cost management system based on RPA will be able to optimize and improve the cost management process through the cross-system of cost information recognition and the cloud platform. Following the review of previous researches on the benefit of the RPA-related technology along with the investigation on the problems of current cost management system, this study will suggest a way to adopt RPA to optimize cost management system for the implement of strategic management accounting to support management decision making.

  • Currently, a BIM-based quantity takeoff (QTO) system is mainly focused on architectural projects. To perform this, diverse quantity takeoff methods such as an object-based automatic quantity takeoff, manual quantity and base functions of calculation have widely been utilizing. However, since BIM library for road projects includes structural elements associated with alignment, it is necessary to establish cost estimation system interlocked with historical cost using 3D library by each unit length. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to develop cost estimation model with using a historical cost approach so that it can be utilized in construction planning based on the BIM library for road projects. For this, based on the BIM library for road, the standardized quantity is estimated, and a process for calculating historical cost and a verification model with a 5D simulation was developed by mapping a WBS code with each BIM library object. This can be applied during the approximate cost estimation process in a project planning and an initial design phase for road projects. Besides, it is expected that these results will be utilized in constructing an optimal historical cost estimation process for project libraries.

  • Computer software has gradually become an indispensable elements in many aspects of our daily lives and an important factor in numerous systems. In recent years, it is not unusual that the software cost is more than the hardware cost in many situations. In addition to the costs of developing software, the repair cost resulting from the software failures are even more significant. In this paper, a cost model with warranty cost, time to remove each fault detected in the software system, and delivery delay cost is developed. We use a software reliability model based on non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP). We discuss the optimal release policies to minimize the expected total software cost. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the results.

  • An estimation of economic life for a new weapon system is a critical issue in aquisition process. In general a life cycle cost consists of, development cost, aquisition cost, and maintenance cost. These costs are not identified and obtained in the beginning of the aquisition process. This paper deals with an economic life for KlAl tank which is being deployed recently, using PRICE model. In order to estimate an KlAl economic life, we use equivalent annual cost method which is sum of capital recovering with return and equivalent O&M cost method. This method determines an economic life by minimizing annual investment cost and operation and maintenance cost. In this paper, an aquisition cost of KlAl is obtained from PRICE H and O&M cost from PRICE HL model. We obtained various results depending upon production quantity. An economic life for KlAl is estimated 18 years when 300 tanks are produced.

  • The LNG liquefaction plant which have a higher value-added business in the LNG value chain takes about 35% of total cost. Liquefaction process is core technology of liquefaction plant. Almost all of cost which was consumed from the liquefaction plant, using for operation energy of liquefaction process. The cost can be reduced by increasing efficiency of liquefaction cycle. C3MR(propane pre-cooled, mixed refrigerant cycle) which liquefies NG using propane and MR cycle has the high efficiency, so C3MR is mostly used liquefaction process in LNG industry. In this study, process simulation and analysis were performed for C3MR process. C3MR process variables were found through this simulation and analysis, and then the process optimization was performed. It is considered that the results of process analysis, process variables and process optimization study can be utilized to develope new liquefaction process.

Effect of Measurement Error on the Determination of the Optimal Process Mean for a Canning Process (캔 공정의 최적공정평균을 결정하는데 있어서 측정오차의 영향)

  • Consider a canning process where cans are filled with an expensive ingredient. Cans weighting above the specified limit are sold in a regular market for a fixed price, and underfilled cans are emptied and refilled at the expense of a reprocessing cost. In this paper, the effect of measurement error on the determination of the optimal process mean for a canning process is examined. It is assumed that the quantity X of ingredient in a can is normally distributed with unknown mean and known variance, and the observed value Y of X is also normally distributed with known mean and variance. A profit model is constructed which involves selling price. cost of ingredients, reprocessing cost. and cost from an accepted nonconforming can, and methods of finding the optimal process mean and the cutoff value on Y are presented. It is shown that the optimal process mean increases. and the expected profit decreases when the measurement error is relatively large in comparison to the process variance.

Transition from Cost Minimizing Management to Cost Pass-along Management in U.S. Manufacturing Industries (미국 공업에 있어서 비용 극소화 관리로 부터 비용 전가식 관리로의 변천)

  • By the mid 1960's the rate of productivity growth in the manufacturing industries of the United States reached the lowest level ever recorded in the American economy. As a result the cost-offsetting operations that had been a century-long part of cost minimizing became less feasible. U.S. manufacturing firins apparently embarked on a pattern of a cost pass-along management. Accounting for price variation as a function of a shift from cost minimizing to cost pass-along is the main subject of this investigation. An econometric model of the inflation process is presented which indicates a clear shift in the modal behavior of manufacturing industries from cost minimizing (1948-1964) to cost pass-along (1965-1975). The latter behavior, initially triggered by the drag of resource diversion on the productivity growth process, undermines the pressure toward productive efficiency that is at the core of industrial engineering, and at the center of U.S. industry's ability to remain competitive.

  • Planning/planning stage Construction cost prediction is very important. In particular, flexible thinking is required to predict the construction cost by reflecting rapid market changes and current conditions. Therefore, in this study, we tried to consider the process for calculating the construction cost of an apartment house in a more accurate planning/planning stage. First, cases were collected based on the classification system by construction type. Second, the construction cost was predicted using the case-based reasoning technique. Third, the composition ratio by construction type of the most similar case was applied to the derived construction cost. Finally, the construction cost was predicted based on practical corrections reflecting the market and field conditions.

Condition-Based Model for Preventive Maintenance of Armor Units of Rubble-Mound Breakwaters using Stochastic Process (추계학적 확률과정을 이용한 경사제 피복재의 예방적 유지관리를 위한 조건기반모형)

  • A stochastic process has been used to develop a condition-based model for preventive maintenance of armor units of rubble-mound breakwaters that can make a decision the optimal interval at which some repair actions should be performed under the perfect maintenance. The proposed cost model in this paper based on renewal reward process can take account of the interest rate, also consider the unplanned maintenance cost which has been treated like a constant in the previous studies to be a time-dependent random variable. A function for the unplanned maintenance cost has been mathematically proposed so that the cumulative damage, serviceability limit and importance of structure can be taken into account, by which a age-based maintenance can be extended to a condition-based maintenance straightforwardly. The coefficients involved in the function can also be properly estimated using a method expressed in this paper. Two stochastic processes, Wiener process and gamma process have been applied to armor stones of rubble-mound breakwaters. By evaluating the expected total cost rate as a function of time for various serviceability limits, interest rates and importances of structure, the optimal period of preventive maintenance can easily determined through the minimization of the expected total cost rate. For a fixed serviceability limit, it shows that the optimal period has been delayed while the interest rate increases, so that the expected total cost rate has become lower. In addition, the gamma process tends to estimate the optimal period more conservatively than the Wiener process. Finally, it is found that the more crucial the level of importance of structure becomes, the more often preventive maintenances should be carried out.
