The Effects of Hand-Arm Vibration on Flexor and Extensor Fatigue (전완(前腕)의 국부(局部) 진동(振動)이 작업자의 굴근(屈筋) 및 신근(伸筋) 피로(疲勞)에 미치는 영향)

  • It is very common to use the powered hand tools to enhance the productivity in various types of industry. But the use of the powered hand tools could cause health problems such as cumulative trauma disorders and vibration white fingers. In this study. the effects of hand-arm vibration and anatomical hand position on localized muscle fatigue were analyzed. Eight healthy male subjects volunteered for the study. Vibration frequencies of 0, 40, 80, 100, 150, and 200Hz and hand position of flexion and ulnar deviation were selected for the independent variables of the experiment. Median frequency shifting was used as a dependent variable. The results indicated that at the vibration frequency of 40Hz and accelation of 2g, the muscle fatigue was the greatest. For the hand position. there was significant difference between neutral and flexion. and neutral and ulnar deviation, but no difference between flexion and ulnar deviation. These results could be applied in designing powered hand tools to minimize the health problems.

  • Recent building structures are superior in its ability but they are light and fiexible, and so have problems of vibration. In general, the serviceability of RC slabs was known to be good against vibration because of its hardness. However recent high-rise apartment slabs are mostly light and long, the serviceability about vibration problems of RC slabs was performed. Basic information and its influence on vibrations of RC slabs were revealed. Also, its serviceability against vibration was examined. Many tests were conducted on existing building located in Chung-Nam area. As a results, damping ratio, natural frequency, acceleration amplitude and displacement amplitude which were used to examine serviceability of the RC slabs were obtained. These results on the test building proved that its serviceability conditions were satified to meet the code against vibration.

  • The comfort and quietness of vehicle has been improved greatly due to the development of technology in automobile industry. It is driven by reduction on the level of vibration and noise in powertrain system. However, the hidden problems in automobile parts become noticeable since the vehicle has been better in overall performance. One of them is related to the fuel pump system. Therefore, this study is focused on investigating the characteristics of fuel pump and fuel tank first, and then comparing the data before and after installation of fuel pump system in a testing vehicle. Additionally, the measured data will be analyzed to identify the problems and find a solution to improve the level of noise and vibration in fuel pump system.

  • Mechanical problems are basically three dimensional nonlinear dynamic problems, which makes it difficult to solve. The difficulties are tried to overcome by modeling, i.e., simplifications of the system with the assumptions or negligence of minute effects. However, the correctness or usefulness of the model should be verified through the comparison with experimental results, which is the process of physical understanding of the system. The understanding of physics of the system make it possible to design or operation of the system. The effects of clearance and friction are always difficult problems in mechanical system due to its nonlinearity. The nonlinearity comes from piecewise-linear characteristics of the stiffness and damping of the system. The modeling of piecewise-linearity and the experimental result are discussed in this paper for impact and friction oscillator and rotor rubbing problem, which is the combination of impact and friction problems.

  • Recently, the importance of vibration reduction at the local structure such as tank, deck which attached machinery and compass deck, has continuously increased by owner and shipbuilder. Because crews are afflicted with them and severe vibration problems affect on the crack of structure. This study conducted optimum design to get a stiffener size of local structure to reducing the vibration level and dec leasing the weight of structure in ship. Random tabu search method (R-Tabu) has fast converging time and can search variables size domains for nonlinear problems. This paper used Nastran external call type independence optimization method which makes using a solver module from Nastran.

  • Visco-elastic material and thin metals were adhered to plate structures, forming the composite components that are similar to the sandwich plates, called constrained layered damped (CLD) plates. Constrained layer damping has been utilized for years to reduce vibration, and advances in computation and finite element analysis software have enabled various problems to be solved by computer. However, some problems consume much calculation time. The vibration equation for a constrained layered damped plate with simple supports and an impact force is obtained theoretically herein. Then, the results of the vibration equation are compared with those obtained using the finite element method (FEM) software, ABAQUS, to verify the accuracy of the theory. Finally, the 3M constrained layer damper SJ-2052 was attached to plates to form constrained layered damped plates, and the vibration equation was used to elucidate the damping effects and vibration characteristics.

  • In Seoul, several railway depots are located at the places where a public can easily access. Since a depot occupy a large amount of land itself, it is natural to use those sites for a public building construction such as an apartment complex or a transportation terminal, as an example. Most of the buildings on a depot, however, are exposed to vibration problems, because foundations are excited from the dynamic loading whenever heavy trains pass on the track. Severe vibration may cause a damage to building structures and a troublesome to a community. In this paper, some vibration practices have been examined in order to resolve the vibration problems. First, a critical speed of a train in a railway depot is evaluated. Then, the structural effect has been investigated. Finally, practical approaches to reduce the vibration level have been proposed. In this first half part of the paper, the focus has been on the critical speed and a structural transmission phenomena.

Comparison of vibration and Noise Characteristics for Reciprocating Air Compressor through the Change of Crankshaft Parameters (크랭크샤프트의 형상 변경을 통한 소형 왕복동 공기압축기의 진동 및 소음 특성 비교)

  • Recently, modern reciprocating air compressors tend to be smaller and lighter. But, as the development of performance, they have many problems for noise and vibration. For this reason, many researches are processing for the reduction of noise and vibration by arranging cylinders with V/W type. Especially, noise and vibration problems of reciprocating air compressor cause a rotating unbalance of crankshaft, so it needs a change of crankshaft parameters appropriately. Hence in this study, we changed crankshaft parameters to solve the rotating unbalance and compared results in order to verify the noise and vibration reduction between new and original air compressor. According to modify a crankshaft parameter, the improvements of noise and vibration were showed results of spectrum measured at selected points of the air compressor crankshaft housing and sound intensity contours measured at a belt left side, table that figure out characteristics of noise. Furthermore, we analyzed objective sound quality metrics with recording data of systems. The results showed that, the new design has improved the level of the first harmonic of vibration displacement, noise and objective sound quality metrics.

A Study on the improvement plan of regulatory standard for construction noise and vibration (공사장 소음진동 규제기준 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • Noise and vibration problems at the construction site, expansion of construction scale and frequency of urban construction is increased, has given the damage to local residents. Also, the result of civil complaint about noise and vibration that occurred in 2011 was 56,244; it is showing an increasing trend of more than 4% annually. In particular, the construction noise and vibration, the civil complaints of around construction site accounts for 64.6%(36,353), are harmful to the tranquility of living environment. As a result, the government has managed to strengthen the regulatory standard of construction noise (65dB(A), Day-time) from 2011. However, the regulatory standard of construction noise and vibration does not meet and also complaints related the construction noise and vibration not decreased. Because the management system can be applied to the construction site is insufficient and a shortage of manpower. In this study, investigated the status and problems of the regulatory standards related to construction noise and vibration, we propose an efficient management plan of construction noise and vibration.

  • Ground vibrations induced from railroad were measured to get the basic data that can be usde to prepare countermeasures for solving environmental vibration problems. Vibration levels were measured simultaneously at three points in double distances from railroad. These data were analuzed with the kinds of trains, media to understand the magnitudes and characteristics of distance attenuation of railroad vibrations.
