The Application of the Problem Based Learning Model in Science Classes and Analysis of It's Effects (과학수업에서 문제중심학습의 적용 및 효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop 'the problem situations' for the Problem Based Learning(PBL) and to examine it's effects on the science achievement and the attitude towards science learning. Also the students' perception on the PBL model was examined. The topics of the problem situations developed were 'the future energy for reducing the green house effect' and 'the Indonesian forest fire and the El Nino'. The coaching strategies for the PBL were designed and implemented to 10th grade high school students in the science classes, the results are follows; First, the science achievement of the group of PBL is significantly higher than those of group of traditional teaching. Second, the scores of the test of attitude toward science learning of the group of PBL is significantly higher than those of group of traditional teaching. Third, the students' perception of the PBL was positive. Many students have interests and motivations in PBL, some students have difficulties in learning on the PBL. In the students' personal reflection notes the step of a problem statement is the hardest one of the PBL model. Therefore, this study suggests that developing the problem situations based on real context is of great importance for implementing a problem based learning model continuously.

Boundaries and Differences in the Narrative of Passing: James W. Johnson and Nella Larsen (패싱, 경계와 차이의 서사 -제임스 W. 존슨과 넬라 라선)

  • When W. E. B. Du Bois says that "the problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line," such a statement clearly recognizes the significance of the issue of racial identity, a cultural phenomenon called 'passing.' Both Johnson in The Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man and Larsen in Passing confront this issue. Both novels, using the metaphor of passing, not only trace the racial anxiety and race politics of the time but also expose the unstable landscape of the established social and cultural boundaries of racial identity. Mapping out multiple meanings and various dimensions of passing, this paper argues how Johnson's and Larsen's narratives display the ambivalence of color line while they at the same time complicate, problematize, and destabilize the mainstream racial boundaries and differences. It furthers to delineate how the two writers, with difference, deal with the problem of passing, the significance of racial identity, and black middle class values along with its intraracial differences. Rather than draw a clear definition of and a definitive closure on passing narrative, this paper focuses on its complexities and undecidability, challenging every dimension of its established significations. It also explores the complex dynamic between passing act and individual identity, for passing here is not just a racially signified term but extends its significance to the other factors of identity, such as class and even sexuality. Johnson and Larsen open up a site for a newly emergent, modern racial identity for black middle class in the twentieth century American urban spaces. Both writers, illuminating the subversive and slippery nature of language in their passing narrative, clearly herald new, different forms of Afro-American writings and themes for the different century they face.

  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. A Study on the Mathematical Communication and Problem Solving Using Internet in Pattern (인터넷을 활용한 패턴 학습에서의 수학적 의사소통 및 문제해결에 관한 연구)

  • Internet was introduced to this study for making mathematics class the surroundings where students can solve the mathematics problems and communicate mathematically in a free way without restriction of time and place. With the intention of investigating mathematical communication and problem solving in mathematics education using internet, the objects of this study were determined as follows: First, how does a student express mathematical idea in problem solving using internet\ulcorner Second, is there any difference in the degree of participation of mathematical communication according to schoolwork accomplishment and characteristics of the student\ulcorner Third, what's the effect of class using internet on problem solving of mathematics class\ulcorner A case study was executed for the solution and the subjects were all students(44 persons) of a class in the fourth grade of elementary school in D city got into web-site of internet and had class with it and 8 students out of them were deeply analyzed. Their results were shown on internet, and eight of them had interview for deep research after survey with questionnaires for all of the students after class. The results and the conclusions of this study were as follows: First, it showed that there was various types(simple statement, fact enumerating, logical thinking, using letters and formula, insufficiency of explanation) of the mathematical idea expression in internet according to students and study using internet seems to be helpful to the improvement of logical his own expression through other students' expression. Second, it showed that there was difference in mathematical communication participation according to the student's characteristics and it helped students of poor schoolwork be interested and confident in mathematics. Third, it showed that pattern study using internet had effect on forming a habit of reason and verification in problem solving in mathematics class. Accordingly, pattern study using internet seems to have a positive effect on increasing mathematical interests and solving problems in mathematics class.

  • The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition. A Study on the Description of Printed Music Cataloging (악보자료 목록의 기술에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the distinctiveness and problem areas in cataloging rules of printed music. In this study, therefore, the characteristics, kinds, and cataloging rules related to a printed music are examined first as the backgrounds. Then the sources of information, title and general material designation, musical representation statement, publication.distribution.etc., physical description, notes, etc. in ISBD(PM), Chapter 5 Music of AACR2R 2002 Revision 2004 Update, and Chapter 5 Music of KCR4 are analyzed. And also printed music parts in Bibliographic Data of KORMARC and MARC21 are analyzed. Finally, the special issues and some problems to be considered in cataloging of printed music in KCR4 are presented.

The Geometric Machining Mechanism of Ultrasonic Drilling (초음파 드릴링의 기하학적 가공 메커니즘 분석)

  • With the acceleration of the miniaturization of products, especially in recent years, machining technologies for these products is in need of improvement. Conventional technologies have limitations in realizing the miniaturization due to the downsizing effects of the tools, which lack sufficient cutting stiffness during machining. The application of ultrasonic vibration is one of the most useful solutions in dealing with the problem. This study focused on the difference of ultrasonic drilling from conventional one in geometrical machining mechanism and the corresponding machining results. In detailed, some mathematical equations for drill cutting edge paths during drilling were extracted and new method to find uncut chip thickness from above equations was suggested. The experiments were carried out through the comparison between the results (disposed chips and internal surface states of holes) of conventional drilling and those of ultrasonic drilling. It was determined that the geometrical paths of cutting edges and analyzed uncut chip thickness agree with the appearance of disposed chips. Furthermore, the change in tool path by ultrasonic vibration resulted in the improvement of surface statement.

  • Statement of Problem. As a standard means of diagnostics, an orthopantomogram(OPT) permits to measure the vertical and mesiodistal dimension of available bone at the desired implant site with the help of suitable radioopaque references. Based on the clinical investigation of the dentition and the edentulous sites, information upon the width of the implant site can be obtained and documented in the dental scheme. Both findings permit together systematic primary planning for endosteal implants. Purpose of Study. Contents of the present article are the representation of a semiquantitative classification of available bone with the aim to simplify the primary phase of a systematic implant planning. Results. Thus the ASCIi- system permits a clear protocol of bone findings for the implant case with all information available during the primary appointment for treatment planning as a basis of further diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Conclusion. With the ASCIi system, important parameters such as alveolar height and sub-crestal alveolar width can be documented systematically, easily and time saving in the dental scheme as a basis for exact treatment planning.

Radiation effect on peri-implant tissue after implantation

  • Statement of problem. There were several studies on the effects of irradiation to peri-implant bone tissue. However, no clear biological effect of irradiation on peri-implant bone tissue was reported yet. Purpose. This study compared the effect of irradiation on the surrounding tissue of a HA-coated implant fixture with controls. Material and methods. 6 Steri-Oss implants were implanted into the femur of 6 mongrels. The implanted dogs were divided into three groups and received irradiation. After 1 month, 2months and 4 months healing period, the histologic examination and mobility test and digital radiographic imaging analyses were performed to compare the control and experimental group respectively. Results. The irradiated group showed slower healing than control group in light microscopic observations. The mobility test demonstrated significant less number (Periotest) in control group than that of irradiated groups. The digital radiographic imaging analysis showed that the bone density of irradiated group was higher than control group. Conclusion. Generally, control group showed favorable biological response and less mobility than irradiated group. The conflict result of bone density value were measured by the digital radiographic imaging analysis. The digital radiographic imaging analysis needs more research in future.

EFFECT OF SURFACE DESIGN ON BOND STRENGTH OF RELINING DENTURE RESIN (결합면 형태가 이장용 레진의 결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Statement of problem: Removable partial denture and complete denture often require denture base relines to improve the fit against the tissue-bearing mucosa because of gradual changes in edentulous ridge contours and resorption of underlying bone structure. Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of surface design on bond strength of relining denture base resins to denture base acrylic resin. Materials and method: Heat curing resin(Lucitone 199, Dentsply U.S.A. and Vertex, Dentimex, Holland), self curing resin(Tokuso rebase, Tokuyama, Japan), and visible light curing resin(Triad, Dentsply, U.S.A.) were used in this study. The surface designs were classified as butt, bevel and rabbet joint and the bond strengths were measured by Universial Testing Machine (Zwick 2020, Zwick Co., Germany). Results and Conclusion: The obtained results from this study were as follows ; 1. The bond strength of Vertex resin was higher than those of Tokuso rebase and Triad. 2. The bond strength of rabbet and bevel joint was higher than that of butt joint. 3. The failure mode of Triad and Tokuso rebase was mainly adhesive, but cohesive failure was shown mainly in vertex.
