Design of Problem Solving Primitives for Efficient Evidential Reasoning

  • Efficient evidential reasoning is an important issue in the development of advanced knowledge based systems. Efficiency is closely related to the design of problems solving methods adopted in the system. The explicit modeling of problem-solving structures is suggested for efficient and effective reasoning. It is pointed out that the problem-solving method framework is often too coarse-grained and too abstract to specify the detailed design and implementation of a reasoning system. Therefore, as a key step in developing a new reasoning scheme based on properties of the problem, the problem-solving method framework is expanded by introducing finer grained problem-solving primitives and defining an overall control structure in terms of these primitives. Once the individual components of the control structure are defined in terms of problem solving primitives, the overall control algorithm for the reasoning system can be represented in terms of a finite state diagram.

  • Choi [1] identified and characterized the limiting diffusion of this diploid model by defining discrete generator for the rescaled Markov chain. In this note, we define the operator of projection $S_t$ on limiting diffusion and new measure $dQ=S_tdP$. We show the martingale property on this operator and measure. Also we conclude that the martingale problem for diffusion operator of projection is well-posed.

ON A FUNCTIONAL EQUATION FOR QUADRATIC INVARIANT CURVES

  • Quadratic invariant curve is one of the simplest nonlinear invariant curves and was considered by C. T. Ng and the author in order to study the one-dimensional nonlinear dynamics displayed by a second order delay differential equation with piecewise constant argument. In this paper a functional equation derived from the problem of invariant curves is discussed. Using a different method from what C. T. Ng and the author once used, we define solutions piecewisely and give results in the remaining difficult case left in C. T. Ng and the authors work. A problem of analytic extension given in their work is also answered negatively.

  • We consider the precedence-constrained knapsack problem. which is a knapsack problem with precedence constraints imposed on the set of variables. Especially, we focus on the case where the precedence constraints cir be represented as a bipartite graph, which occurs most frequently in applications. Based on the previous studios for the general case, we specialize the polyhedral results on the related polytope and derive stronger results on the facet-defining properties of the inequalities.

EDGE-MINIMIZATION OF NON-DETERMINISTIC FINITE AUTOMATA

  • In this paper we consider non-deterministic finite Rabin-Scott’s automata. We use a special structure to descibe all the possible edges of non-determinstic finite automaton defining the given regular language. Such structure can be used for solving various problems of finite automata theory. One of these problems is edge-minimization of non-deterministic automata. As we have not touched this problem before, we obtain here two versions of the algorithm for solving this problem to continue previous series of articles.

  • 기존 연구에서는 비즈니스 프로세스 프레임워크에서 정보 추출 및 검색을 위해 비즈니스 프로세스 시스템 질의 언어(BPSQL)를 제안했고, 기존 질의(Query)언어를 그대로 사용하기 위해 비즈니스 프로세스 프레임워크 내 각 레이어 정보들을 테이블화했지만, 레이어 정보의 스펙을 가지고 데이터베이스 구축을 수작업하는 단점이 있다. 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 메타모델 기반의 모델-텍스트 변환기법을 적용하여, 5 레이어의 비즈니스 프로세스 모델 스키마 기반의 구축 자동 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위한 단계절차는 전체 구조와 데이터베이스 스키마의 메타 모델 정의, 모델 변형 규칙 정의 순이다. 통합정보시스템 설계의 메타 모델링을 통한 각 레이어 스펙정의와 전체 레이어 모델정보 테이블 스키마 스펙을 정의하고, 이 두 스펙 정의를 가지고 모델-텍스트 변환기법을 통해 자동으로 전체 시스템이 구축 된다. 이를 통해서 통합정보시스템 구축이 효율적으로 될 수 있다.

AN APPROACH FOR SOLVING OF A MOVING BOUNDARY PROBLEM

  • In this paper we shall study moving boundary problems, and we introduce an approach for solving a wide range of them by using calculus of variations and optimization. First, we transform the problem equivalently into an optimal control problem by defining an objective function and artificial control functions. By using measure theory, the new problem is modified into one consisting of the minimization of a linear functional over a set of Radon measures; then we obtain an optimal measure which is then approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures and the problem converted to an infinite-dimensional linear programming. We approximate the infinite linear programming to a finite-dimensional linear programming. Then by using the solution of the latter problem we obtain an approximate solution for moving boundary function on specific time. Furthermore, we show the path of moving boundary from initial state to final state.

표준 의학용어 체계에서의 효과적인 용어 비교 검색 기법 (Effective Scheme for Comparative Search of Clinical Terms from Standard Clinical Terminology)

  • 종합적 표준 임상 의학용어 체계인 SNOMED CT는 용어의 방대함 및 구조의 복잡성 때문에 환자 상태를 표현하는 가장 적합한 용어를 짧은 진료 시간 내에 선택하기가 어려운 용어 선택의 모호성 문제를 내포하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 용어 검색 과정에서 발생하는 동일하거나 유사한 용어를 분석하고 이를 효과적으로 구분하기 위한 용어 비교 검색 기법을 제시한다. 제안하는 기법은 용어의 계층 구조 분석을 통해 용어 간 "is-not-a" 관계를 새로 정의함으로써 두 비교 대상 용어의 차이점을 명확하게 하는 특징이 있다. 이를 통해 진료 과정에서 유사한 이름을 가진 용어들 중 환자의 상태를 가장 적합하게 표현하는 용어를 빠르게 선택함으로써 SNOMED CT의 활용성을 개선한다.

The Confinement Problem: 40 Years Later

  • The confinement problem was first noted four decades ago. Since then, a huge amount of efforts have been spent on defining and mitigating the problem. The evolution of technologies from traditional operating systems to mobile and cloud computing brings about new security challenges. It is perhaps timely that we review the work that has been done. We discuss the foundational principles from classical works, as well as the efforts towards solving the confinement problem in three domains: operating systems, mobile computing, and cloud computing. While common issues exist across all three domains, unique challenges arise for each of them, which we discuss.

  • This paper will explore the problem of domestic violence in the UK. It will begin by defining the problem and then set out estimates of the extent of the problem, while also examining the problems that are involved in measurement. It will then examine the policing strategies that have been put in place to tackle this problem, such as intelligence gathering, effective investigations, and risk management techniques. The paper will also highlight the importance of multi-agency involvement when dealing with domestic violence and the wide range of orders that have been created in order to help deal with this problem.
