For the measurement of the magnetic field distribution with high spatial resolution and high accuracy, the magnetic field sensing probe must be non-magnetic, but the MFM probe and sub-millimeter-meter size Hall probe use a ferromagnetic tip and block, respectively, to increase the sensitivity. To overcome this drawback, we developed a micro-size search coil magnetometer which consists of a single turn search coil, Terfenol-D actuator, scanning system, and control software. To reduce the noise generated by the stray ac magnetic field of the actuator driving coil, we employed an even function $\lambda$-H magnetostriction curve and lock-in technique. Using the developed magnetometer, we were able to measure the magnetic field distribution with a magnetic field resolution of 1 mT and spatial resolution of $0.1mm{\times}0.2mm$ at a coil vibration frequency of 1.8 kHz.

Ultrasonic inspection of heavy walled cast austenitic stainless steel(CASS)welds is very difficult due to complex and coarse grained structure of CASS material. The large size of anisotropic grain strongly affects the propagation of ultrasound by severe attenuation, change in velocity, and scattering of ultrasonic energy. therefore, the signal patterns originated from flaws can be difficult to distinguish from scattered signals. To improve detection and sizing capability of ID connected defect for heavy walled CASS piping welds, the low frequency segmented TRL Pulse Echo and Phased Array probe has been developed. The experimental studies have been performed using CASS pipe mock-up block containing artificial reflectors(ID connected EDM notch). The automatic pulse echo and phase array technique is applied the detection and the length sizing of the ID connected artificial reflectors and the results for detection and sizing has been compared respectively. The goal of this study is to assess a newly developed ultrasonic probe to improve the detection ability and the sizing of the crack in coarse-grained CASS components.

Micelle formation and adsorption at the $Ti0_{2}$ interface of a series of polystyrene-polythylene oxide(PS-PEO) block copolymer in aqueous solution was studied using fluorescence probing and small-angle X-ray methods. Further, the stability of aqueous $Ti0_{2}$ dispersion in the presence of copolymer was investigated by microelectrophoresis, optical density and sedimentation measurements. The dissolution of pyrene as fluorescent probe in aqueous surfactant solution leads to a slow decrease of the $I_{1}/I_{3}$ ratio, as the copolymer concentration increase; $I_{1}$ and $I_{3}$ are respectively the intensities of the first and third vibrionic peaks in the pyrene fluorescence emission. The behaviour was due to the characteristics of the copolymers and/or to the copolymer association efficiency in water. Moreover, the adsorption at the plateau level increases with decreasing PEO until chain length. The zeta potential of $TiO_{2}$ particles decreases with increasing copolymer concentration and reaches a plateau value. Finally, stabilization using block copolymers was more effective with samples having higher weight fractions of PS block.

A triblock copolymer based on $poly(\varepsilon-caprolactone)$ (PCL) as the hydrophobic part and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as the hydrophilic portion was synthesized by a ring-opening mechanism of ${\varepsilon}-caprolactone$ with PEG containing a hydroxyl group at bot h ends as an initiator. The synthesized block copolymers of PCL/PEG/PCL (CEC) were confirmed and characterized using various analysis equipment such as 1H NMR, DSC, FT-IR, and WAXD. Core-shell type nanoparticles of CEC triblock copolymers were prepared using a dialysis technique to estimate their potential as a colloidal drug carrier using a hydrophobic drug. From the results of particle size analysis and transmission electron microscopy, the particle size of CEC core-shell type nanoparticles was determined to be about 20-60 nm with a spherical shape. Since CEC block copolymer nanoparticles have a core-shell type micellar structure and small particle size similar to polymeric micelles, CEC block copolymer can self-associate at certain concentrations and the critical association concentration (CAC) was able to be determined by fluorescence probe techniques. The CAC values of the CEC block copolymers were dependent on the PCL block length. In addition, drug loading contents were dependent on the PCL block length: the larger the PCL block length, the higher the drug loading content. Drug release from CEC core-shell type nanoparticles showed an initial burst release for the first 12 hrs followed by pseudo-zero order release kinetics for 2 or 3 days. CEC-2 block copolymer core-shell type nanoparticles were degraded very slowly, suggesting that the drug release kinetics were governed by a diffusion mechanism rather than a degradation mechanism irrelevant to the CEC block copolymer composition.

Typically, a wedge is involved to generate effectively high inspection angle in pipe weld inspection using phased array ultrasonic technique. But the usage of this wedge for weld or access limited area can cause coverage limitation for the examination volume because of the wedge front length. Therefore, the shear wave phased array probe which can generate high inspection angle without wedge is essentially necessary. In this paper, the shear wave phased array ultrasonic probe which can generate high inspection angle designed by modeling and manufactured from the modelling result. And this shear wave probe tested whether it can detect and sizing for EDM test block that contains various depth. As results, the experimental results show that the designed shear wave phased array probe can detect and size with reliable accuracy. Therefore if this phased array probe apply in field inspection, it is expected that it show more reliable inspection result for plant structure having access limitation.

This paper presents a hybrid method for recognizing the faces by using zero mean and principal component analysis. Zero mean is applied to reduce the 1st order statistics to data nonlinearities. PCA is also used to derive an orthonormal basis which directly leads to dimensionality reduction, and possibly to feature extraction of face image. The proposed method has been applied to the problems for recognizing the 20 face images(10 persons * 2 scenes) of 324*243 pixels from Yale face database. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performances(speed, rate). The negative angle has been relatively achieved more an accurate similarity than city-block or Euclidean.

Polymeric nanoparticles are recognized as promising drug carriers [1]. Here, novel tri-block copolymers based on poly PPDO, PCL and PEG were synthesized and employed for the formulation of reproducible polymeric nanoparticles [2]. To estimate the feasibility of the polymer to form polymeric nanoparticles, nanoparticles were prepared by co-solvent evaporation technique. Polymerization and structural features of the polymer were analyzed by different physico-chemical techniques. Existence of hydrophobic domains as a core of nanoparticles was characterized by $^{1}H-NMR$ spectroscopy, and further confirmed by fluorescence technique using pyrene as probe.

This paper presents a hybrid method for recognizing the faces by using principal component analysis(PCA) and fixed-point independent component analysis(FP-ICA). PCA is used to whiten the data, which reduces the effects of second-order statistics to the nonlinearities. FP-ICA is applied to extract the statistically independent features of face image. The proposed method has been applied to the problems for recognizing the 20 face images(10 persons * 2 scenes) of 324*243 pixels from Yale face database. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images.
