  • A switchable Yagi-Uda antenna prototype with radiation pattern reconfiguration is presented in this letter. The proposed reconfigurable antenna is based on the concept of switching between the reflector and director of a Yagi-Uda antenna using a radio frequency PIN diode. As a result, the minimum/maximum radiation can be steered towards desired signals or away from interfering signals in opposite directions. The measured 10 dB impedance bandwidth and gain are 210 MHz (7%) and 8.02 dBi at 3 GHz, respectively. Details of the antenna design and its performance are described and empirically analyzed.

  • This paper presents a study on a rectenna for rectification of incident low power microwave signals with power densities less than 2 mW/$cm^2$ at 2.45 GHz. The proposed rectenna is designed and implemented by a rectifier with voltage doubler structure and a printed Yagi antenna which suppress re-radiation of the second order harmonic of fundamental frequency. The printed Yagi antenna has a gain of about 5 dB, and the measured conversion efficiencies of the rectenna are from 32 % to 42 % when its incident power levels are from 0 dBm to 14 dBm. The developed rectenna is expected to be useful in the power transmission system.

  • This paper proposes a printed yagi-antenna available at 2.45 GHz, for the remote-management system of the underground equipment. To improve the solidity and waterproof property, the proposed antenna is coated with bakelite. The manufactured antenna is operated at $2.15{\sim}2.52\;GHz$, whose gain measures 10 dBi. These results are a little different from those of the simulated antenna, but the trend is totally similar. Developed antenna is expected to be useful in the underground facility.

  • In this paper, a new rectenna is presented for the wireless transmission of microwave power using dipole antenna (Quasi Yagi effect) and rectifier of CPS resonator structure. The dipole antenna with CPW feedline has high peak gain than a general dipole antenna. A ground plane of CPW is used to reflect a dipole as a Yagi antenna. Therefore, the new rectenna receives the RF power better than the one using general dipole. A RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of 61 % using a 1.4 $k{\Omega}$ load resistor is obtained at 5.8 GHz.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a broadband quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. The proposed antenna is composed of a dipole driver, a rectangular patch type director close to the dipole, and a ground reflector printed on an FR4 substrate. A balun between a microstrip line and a coplanar strip (CPS) line is a rectangular patch inserted along the center of the CPS. The end of the balun is connected to the CPS line through a shorting pin. An antenna, as an design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV, and the characteristics of the designed antenna are examined. The antenna has a good performance such as a frequency band of 430-842 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 3.7 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 7.4 dB.

  • In this paper, we considered a design method of a compact quasi-Yagi antenna for portable UHF RFID readers. The antenna consists of a dipole driver and a reflector printed on a dielectric substrate, and it is fed by a microstrip line. In order to reduce the antenna size, the dipole and reflector are bent and the balun between the feeding microstrip line and coplanar strip (CPS) line is integrated within the CPS line. The effects of the geometrical parameters of the proposed antenna on the antenna performance are examined, and the parameters are adjusted to be suitable for the operation in UHF RFID band (902-928 MHz). The size of the fabricated antenna is $70mm{\times}75mm$, and the experiment results reveal a frequency band of 892-942 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 3.5 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 6.6 dB over the frequency band for UHF RFID.

  • In this paper, a step type driver dipole antenna with a tapered balance and unbalance (balun) by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) to coplanar strip (CPS) transition is proposed. The proposed antenna consisted of step type driver, a CPW to CPS transition and tapered balun. The proposed antenna is realized the multi and wide resonate frequency band to introduce the step type driver and tapered balun. The step type driver is acted as a director too. This antenna could be more easily designed than the conventional printed quasi-Yagi dipole antenna. The operating frequency bandwidth was 650 [MHz] (2.65~3.3 GHz), 900 [MHz] (4.7~5.6 GHz) under a return-loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measurements of the proposed antenna exhibited good results in the wideband operating frequency and radiation pattern. The proposed antenna can support wireless communications applications.

  • This paper presents analysis and design for printed directive antenna using Bluetooth AP system. For the miniaturization of the antennas, dielectric substrate (${\varepsilon}_r$=4.6) and planar line Yagi-Uda antenna structure are used. The proposed Yagj-Uda antennas are simulated using commercial simulator (HFSS). The results of the simulation are presented and compared with characteristics of each array type. Especially, the proposed antennas can be applied to the design of various communication systems for 2.4 GHz band.
