  • We propose a character recognition system to extract the component reference names from printed circuit boards (PCBs) automatically. The names are written in horizontal, vertical, reverse-horizontal and reverse-vertical directions. Also various symbols and figures are included in PCBs. To recognize the character and orientation effectively, we divide the recognizer into two stages: character classification stage and orientation classification stage. The character classification stage consists of two sub-recognizers and a verifier. The rotaion-invarint features of input pattern are then used to identify the character independent of orientation. Each recognizer is implemented as a neural network, and the weight values of verifier are obtained by genetic algorithm. In the orientation classification stage, the input pattern is compared with reference patterns to identify the orientation. Experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed system.

  • In the intelligent integrated systems, the delay time must be reduced using highly parallel processors, as well as high throughput performance. In this paper, we propose a new concept for building 3D highly parallel processors using multi-layer printed wiring boards with built-in soldering heater (BISH-PWB). The proposed BISH is realized with the long and narrow cupper wiring pattern on the internal layer in the terminal pattern area. Based on the linearity of the cupper resistance vs. temperature, we can measure the BISH, temperature and its calorific value from the heater voltage and current measurements. If we provide the BISH temperature control systems for each BISH, selective multi-point soldering can be realized with same ...

  • 'Coil' occupies a much important position in delivering driving force of optical pick-up actuators. Up to now the main stream has been a winding coil type actuator, but actuators using FP-Coil(Fine Pattern Coil) have been considered for the more compacted and simple manufacturing process and have variously spreaded the application fields by product. We have tried to design actuators using PCB-Coil(Printed Circuit Board Coil) which has benefits in terms of price and manufacturing process. Especially this research has two main things those are to reduce the vibration of sub-resonance and to assure the do sensitivity in the performance of asymmetric optical pick-up actuator with PCB-Coil.

  • Melting behavior and bridge phenomenon of solder paste, which is essential for surface mount technology in packaging, were investigated. solder paste of Sn-37%Pb was printed on Sn-coated Cu-pattern of PCB, and heated over melting point. Melting behavior of the paste was observed using CCD-camera. In order to modelize the melting and agglomeration phenomena of the paste, two solder balls of 0.76mm diameter were used. As experimental results, the paste start to melt from the margin of the printed shape. The hight of the melted paste decreased from 270 $\mu$m to 200 $\mu$m firstly, and finally recovered to 250 $\mu$m. During the melting procedure, pores were evolved from the molten paste. Bridge Phenomenon of the molten Paste depends upon the pitch of the pattern.

  • Chaos theory is a study researching the irregular, unpredictable behavior of deterministic and non-linear dynamical system. The interpretation using Chaos makes us evaluate characteristic existing in status space of system by tine series, so that the extraction of Chaos characteristic understanding and those characteristics enables us to do high precision interpretation. Therefore, This paper propose the new method which is adopted in extracting character features and recognizing characters using the Chaos Theory. Firstly, it gets features of mesh feature, projection feature and cross distance feature from input character images. And their feature is converted into time series data. Then using the modified Henon system suggested in this paper, it gets last features of character image after calculating Box-counting dimension, Natural Measure, information bit and information dimension which are meant fractal dimension. Finally, character recognition is performed by statistically finding out the each information bit showing the minimum difference against the normalized pattern database. An experimental result shows 99% character classification rates for 2,350 Korean characters (Hangul) using proposed method in this paper.

  • With the development of many display technologies currently applied to them in the field of printed electronics, there have been many researches that high resolution printing for thin and uniform pattern. In this paper, printing ink flow properties in the reverse offset mechanism were simulated. The aim of this research is to expect the ink flow behavior between cliches to make fine pattern by a printing technique which is a reverse offset. The simulation results show that almost the same as the experiments and the flow behavior according to the ink film thickness and printing pressure changes could be expected.
