  • This paper examines the long-run social welfare maximization problems facing public utilities, which includes consideration of the cost of capital or other fixed costs of production, from which it derives optimal investment decisions in a reliability differentiated pricing based market. Reliability differentiated pricing policies lead to straightforward mathematical results on optimal investment decisions in generation and transmission expansion planning. This paper presents the mathematical conditions for optimal investment decisions.

  • In this paper, we derive the nonlinear equation for European option pricing containing liquidity risk which can be defined as the inverse of the partial derivative of the underlying asset price with respect to the amount of assets traded in the efficient market. Numerical solutions are obtained by using finite element method and compared with option prices of KOSPI200 Stock Index. These prices computed with liquidity risk are considered more realistic than the prices of Black-Scholes model without liquidity risk.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine a financial distress premium in the emerging market. A risk-return trade-off of negative book equity (NBE) and distress firms is empirically analyzed using data from the Stock Exchange of Thailand. This research employs Ohlson's (1980) bankruptcy model as a measurement of distress risk. The results indicate that distress firms outperform solvent firms in the Thai market and deny distress anomaly often found in the developed market. Fama-Frech (1993) three-factor model and Carhart (1997) four-factor model verify the existence of a distress premium in the Thai capital market. Risk-seeking investors demand greater compensation for bearing risks of distress firms' going concern. This paper provides fresh evidence that default risk is a significant explanatory factor in pricing stocks in the emerging market. Also, this study sheds light on the role of NBE firms in asset pricing. Most studies eliminate NBE firms from their sample. However, NBE firms yield superior average cross-sectional returns, albeit with higher volatility. Investors are rewarded with distress risks associated with NBE firms. The outperformance of NBE firms is statistically significant when compared to the overall market. The NBE premium disappears when factoring size, value, and momentum in time-series analysis.

  • Initial public offering (IPO) has been well known to be underpriced initially and under-performed in the long run. However, whether an IPO is underpriced or not strongly depends on how to measure the fair value. This paper hand collects data of IPOs newly listed in Korea market when whether IPO is overpriced or not is clearly distinguishable. The overpriced IPO refers to as the one the underwriters buy back after the listing. With the data, the paper examines that IPOs are overpriced and that the characteristics are related to the underpricing at the aftermarket dates and the performance in the long run. The data of clearly overpriced IPOs are little available from other IPO markets like US IPO market. From the data of IPOs listed under the underwriting rule of market stabilization, the results obtainable are the followings. First of all, the average initial return 70% of the underpriced IPO at the aftermarket dates is greater than the one 40% of the overpriced one. The overpriced IPOs are priced highly over the mid prices of the price bands at the pricing dates and then supported by relatively higher subscription rates of individual investors. The probit analyses moreover report that individual investors do not distinguish the overpricing of IPOs from the underpricing. These imply that the overpricing is strongly affected by the underwriting rule on the initial pricing.

  • This paper considers a SCM issue concerned with an integrated problem of inventory control and dynamic pricing strategies when demands are price and time dependent. The associated price markdowns are conducted for inventory control in a two-layer market consisting of retailer and outlet as in fashion apparel market. The objective function consists of revenue terms (sales revenue and salvage value) and purchasing cost term. Specifically, decisions on price markdowns and order quantity are made to maximize total profit in the supply chain so as to have zero inventory level at the end of the sales horizon. To solve the proposed problem, a gradient method is applied, which shows an optimal decision on both the initial inventory level and the discount pricing policy. Sensitivity analysis is conducted on the demand parameters and the final comments on the practical use of the proposed model are presented.

  • Bioinformatics service is very new and emerging in market that provides information such as whether or not occurrence of a particular disease through the base of DNA(Deoxyribonucleic Acid) & RNA(Ribo Nucleic Acid) sequence analysis. Recently, interest growing rapidly in utilization of the industrial purpose, but provision of commercialization like pricing and service packaging is not enough to go to market. For go-to-market, firstly refine the services and perform cost calculation of services in cost-plus method then estimate consumer utility by conducting conjoint analysis. Collectively, with cost and consumer utility result, optimal service price can be calculated.

  • This study empirically examines herd behavior for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector stocks under varied market return conditions and the period during the global financial crisis and its aftermath. We examine the sample of stocks trading on the Nifty FMCG Index of the Indian equity market from January 2008 up to December 2018 using the dispersion measure of cross sectional absolute deviation and examine its relationship with the market return to explore herd phenomenon. Quantile regression estimate is used and the results of the study validate rational asset pricing models as the sector does not display herding. In contrast, anti-herd behavior at lower and median quantile values is observed. A possible reason can be the non-cyclical nature of the industry where investors rely more on the fundamentals rather than crowd chasing. We also findthe absence of herd phenomenon during the market asymmetries of bull and bear phases, extreme movements, the period of the global financial crisis, and afterward. We further examine herding under the impact of the information technology (IT) industry and conclude that significant return movements in IT sector impact dispersions in the FMCG industry. Also, there is a co-varying risk between the two sectors confirming the spillover in an integrated market.

  • In the modern financial market, the scale of financial instrument transactions in the over-the-counter (OTC) market are increasing. However, in this market, there exists a counterparty credit risk. Herein, we obtain a closed-form solution of power option with credit risks, using the double Mellin transforms. We also use a numerical method to compare the differentiations of option price between the closed-form solution and Monte-Carlo simulation. The result shows that the closed-form solution is precise. In addition, the option's price is sensitive to the exponent of the maturity stock price.

  • The objective of this study is to examine whether the four-factor model explains variation in the expected return of stocks on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The study used individual monthly data for all stock with continuous trading on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The study used sample data of 429 listed stocks to construct 8 portfolios bases on the industries. In this study, subject to market factors such as size, the book-to-market ratio, the market beta, and stock liquidity are taken into account. The Empirical analysis reveals that not all of the variables included in the four-factor asset pricing model are statistically significant to do affect the formation of the rate of return on stocks calculated on a monthly basis. The result shows that market beta, stock liquidity, and the book-to-market ratio has a significant increase in the rate of return on shares listed on the Consumer Products. It is therefore apparent that at least in respect of monthly analysis, the predictions of bass models in the field of modern finance theory systematic risk measured by the beta coefficient did play a significantly important role in the formation of the rate of return on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
