Precision of theoretical group velocity of waves in shell structures was discussed for the purpose of source localization of loose parts impact in pressure vessels of nuclear power plants. Estimating exact location of loose parts impact inside a reactor or a steam generator is very important in safety management of a NPP. Evaluation of correct propagation velocity of impact signals in pressure vessels, most of which are shell structures, is essential in impact source localization. Theoretical group velocities of impact signals in a plate and a shell were calculated by wave equations and compared to the velocities measured experimentally in a plate specimen and a scale model of a nuclear reactor. The wave equation applicable to source localization algorithm in shell structures was chosen by the study.
Unsteady flows in a semi-induction system was investigated to verify their characteristics. A semi-induction system was designed and made to verify the Sow characteristics in an intake system. To attain an intact wave of an intake pulse, a single semi-intake system was adopted as a test rig. The system consists of an intake pipe and a rotary valve as a pulse generator, and a variable volume Helmholtz resonator. The variable volume Helmholtz resonator was mounted in the intake pipe to enhance a breathing capacity and engine performance. The phase and amplitude of the pulsating flow in an unsteady flow system were found to affect the charging capacity significantly. The behavior of pressure wave, their phase and amplitude were investigated in various regions. Some of the results obtained from experiments were described.

A radial artery pulse wave is measured while pressing an artery with constant force. However, pulse waveform measurements vary depending on pressing force and direction. Accurate pulse waveform measurements are important for analysis. Thus, it is necessary to define the measurement range of the permissible force and direction from which a correct pulse waveform is derived. In this study, pulse waves were generated by a pulse wave generator for accurate control. The pulse waves generated for different angles and pressing forces were analyzed. The augmentation index (AIx), which is the most commonly used index for evaluating vascular stiffness, was analyzed. The AIx was measured within ${\pm}6^{\circ}$ of the vessel direction and within ${\pm}8^{\circ}$ perpendicular to the vessel direction with a force that was 25% or more of the pressing force at which the maximum pressure wave was generated. We identified the applicable pressing force and angle range by analyzing the effect of pressing angle on the pulse wave. The AIx analysis performed using the pulse wave measurement device is reliable and reproducible.

NDE(Nondestructive examination) detects a flaw or discontinuity in materials. Flaws detected by the examination shall be evaluated for the decision basis of the integrity. The internal flaws of forging products can be detected by UT. However, UT has detection limits because of its reflected signal weakness. Normally, a 1mm or less flaw is known as the limit. If a flaw was detected, the size of flaw would be evaluated by AVG(or DGS) technique. To verify the evaluation data, alternative examination methods are needed. But there is no alternative examination methods until now. In this study, Phased array ultrasonic technique can be used to size the flaws in the generator rotor with focused beam of ultrasonic wave as a supplement method of AVG. Also, the phased array ultrasonic technique described enables the shape of flaw to be depicted exactly.
This paper presents a novel concept of wave energy converter for electric generation from the ocean wave energy. In this paper, a Multi-Point Absorbing Wave Energy Converter, shortened as MPAWEC by using Secondary Control Hydrostatic Transmission (SCHST) was proposed. The power take-off (PTO) system in the proposed MPAWEC includes multi heaving buoys to drive hydraulic pumps placed at different points. The application of SCHST in MPAWEC gives some advantages, such as longevity of hydraulic components; more energy is harvested; the variation of the pressure in the accumulator limited; therefore the accumulator volume is reduced and the output speed is more stable, etc. A PID controller was designed for speed control of the hydraulic motor. The simulation results indicated that the speed of the generator was ensured with the relative error as 0.67%; the efficiency of the proposed system was 71.4%.

The outstanding mechanical property of optical fiber and the merits of acoustic emission sensing technique are unified for novel sensor system. The generated ultrasonic wave from piezoelectric generator are propagated along the optical fiber and also sensed. The propagated wave can be influence by external pressure on the optical fiber or environmental circumstance. The optical fiber sensor using ultrasonic wave has advantages compare with existing sensor system. In this study, the sensitivity of the optical fiber sensor is experimentally investigated. As the applications of the optical fiber sensor system using piezoelectric ultrasonic waves, the point load on the optical fiber is measured and the monitoring system for the void fraction of two phase flows is developed. The experimental results show the linear relationship between sensed voltage and void fraction.

In this paper, we propose a novel type shaft-less ring type ultrasonic motor. A traveling wave rotary type ultrasonic motor is selected as a base model. The newly designed stator has two piezoelectric ceramic rings which are bonded in sandwich shape as traveling wave generator. So, we can expect to produce higher torque. The proposed model has the rotor structure that coupled with the stator provokes the pressure, this model do not install the separate plate any spring device. We used the finite element method to verify the operation principle and to compute the vibration mode of proposed model.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the density-wave oscillation type instability in the recirculating loop of U-tube steam generator (UTSG). The perturbed and nodalized conservations equations based on the drift-flux model have been derived to obtain the single-and two-phase pressure drop perturbations, by taking into account the slip between phases, nonuniform heat flux and heated wall dynamics. To assess the stability, the frequency domain technique with the Nyquist criterion has been used under the constant pressure drop boundary condition through the loop. The computer implementation of this model, SASG, was used for the parametric study of the steam generator in Kori-Unit 1. The results of the parametric study revealed important factors influencing UTSG stability margin.
The detonation combustion is a supersonic combustion process follows on shock wave oscillations in detonation tube. In this paper numerical studies are carried out combined effect of blockage ratio and spacing of obstacle on detonation wave propagation of hydrogen-air mixture in pulse detonation combustor. The deflagration to detonation transition of stoichiometric (ϕ=1)fuel-air mixture in channel has been analyzed for effect of blockage ratio (BR)=0.39, 0.51, 0.59, 0.71 with spacing of 2D and 3D. The reactive Navier-Stokes equation is used to solve the detonation wave propagation mechanism in Ansys Fluent platform. The result shows that fully developed detonation wave initiation regime is observed near smaller vortex generator ratio of BR=0.39 inside the combustor. The turbulent rate of reaction has also a great significance role for shock wave structure. However, vortices of rapid detonation wave are appears near thin boundary layer of each obstacle. Finally, detonation combustor demonstrates the superiority of pressure gain combustor with turbulent rate of reaction of 0.6 kg mol/m3 -s inside the detonation tube with obstacle spacing of 12 cm, this blockage enhanced the turbulence intensity and propulsive thrust. The successful detonation wave propagation speed is achieved in shortest possible time of 0.031s with a significance magnitude of 2349 m/s, which is higher than Chapman-Jouguet (C-J) velocity of 1848 m/s. Furthermore, stronger propulsive thrust force of 36.82 N is generated in pulse time of 0.031s.

The inundation of substation and ground power equipment breaks out every summer season in low-lying downtown and low-lying shore by localized heavy rain, typhoon and tidal wave. For diminishing flood damage of electrical equipment in the root, flood protection system which is used the basic frame of Pad transformer is developed using pneumatic pressure. This system is established on pressure generator equipment and sensor of flooded level operates at flooding occurrence and is maintained a shutting tightly structure. The system is able to protect indraft water in Pad Transformer and supply the electricity at emergency(flooding). And we tested safety for insulation resistance at flooding and applying an electrical current. We estimate that loss cost which is caused by with flooding and the power failure will be diminished if it is addition to advances the reliability evaluation by setting an example.
