Recently, the pollution of groundwater has become serious. In particular, the contamination of groundwater near livestock farms is becoming increasingly severe and it is difficult to drink with drinking water. In this paper, a groundwater purifier apparatus that can be installed in a community well was designed. The designed groundwater purifier apparatus enables a RO membrane filter and UV sterilization to remove pollutants, such as heavy metals, bacteria, and organic compounds. In addition, electrical conductivity, pressure, and flow sensors were added for remote monitoring. Remote monitoring of the system can determine the level of fouling and contamination of RO membrane filters through pressure and flow sensor data, and can record changes in the contamination and condition of groundwater through the electrical conductivity of the feed water. The designed groundwater purifier apparatus was installed at a farmhouse and remote monitoring. The result after 15 days of operating a groundwater purifier apparatus and analyzing the monitoring data revealed an average permeate water flow rate of 2.67L/min and an average water pressure of 7.09kgf/㎠, indicating that the RO Membrane filtered without fouling and clogging. The average electrical conductivity was 796.6 S/㎠ of the feed water and 55.6 S/㎠ of permeate water, which is similar to that of general tap water. Through this, it was confirmed that no pollutant occurred in the surroundings. Therefore, the designed groundwater purifier apparatus can confirm the replacement time of the RO membrane filter in advance through remote monitoring, and check the pollution state of the groundwater.

Surface morphology and adsorption characteristics of charcoals prepared from Korean traditional kiln were analyzed, and their moisture adsorption capacities were examined with respect to humidity and temperature change. Moisture adsorption capacities of red-clay powder, activated carbon fiber fabric (ACF fabric) and activated carbon fiber paper(ACF paper) were also examined to compare with those of charcoals. Moisture adsorption capacity of charcoal was low less than 45% humidity due to its hydrophobic property, but it slowly and linearly increased as increasing the humidity. Moisture adsorption capacity of red-clay powder was similar to charcoal at low level humidity, it increased exponentially as increasing the humidity showing Type V adsorption isotherm. Therefore, the weather forecast annal prepared by employee of weather centre in Joseon Dynasty is experimentally approved. ACF fabric and ACF paper show excellent moisture adsorption capacities, which can be used to humidity measuring sensor. Adsorption isotherm of charcoal slice was peculear showing the mixed Type I and Type IV due to low-pressure hysteresis that was occurred from embedment of nitrogen in crevice of charcoal. The specific surface area of charcoal increased by grinding charcoal slice to powder, resulted in increasing the desorption amount of adsorbent at low relative pressure.

Purpose. The purpose of the study was to fabricate a prototype robotic simulator for dental education, to test whether it could simulate mandibular movements, and to assess the possibility of the stimulator responding to stimuli during dental practice. Materials and methods. A virtual simulator model was developed based on segmentation of the hard tissues using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data. The simulator frame was 3D printed using polylactic acid (PLA) material, and dentiforms and silicone face skin were also inserted. Servo actuators were used to control the movements of the simulator, and the simulator's response to dental stimuli was created by pressure and water level sensors. A water level test was performed to determine the specific threshold of the water level sensor. The mandibular movements and mandibular range of motion of the simulator were tested through computer simulation and the actual model. Results. The prototype robotic simulator consisted of an operational unit, an upper body with an electric device, a head with a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and dentiforms. The TMJ of the simulator was capable of driving two degrees of freedom, implementing rotational and translational movements. In the water level test, the specific threshold of the water level sensor was 10.35 ml. The mandibular range of motion of the simulator was 50 mm in both computer simulation and the actual model. Conclusion. Although further advancements are still required to improve its efficiency and stability, the upper-body prototype simulator has the potential to be useful in dental practice education.
The fiber-optic biosensor using enzyme-immobilized Langmuir-Blodgett film is developed fort the measurement of ethanol. The enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase, is immobilized at the molecular level on the arachidic acid monolayer using Langmuir-Blodgett film technique. Based on the ordered multisubstrate mechanism, the immobilized enzyme kinetics is investigated. The optical sensing system is proposed, and sensor signal is proportional to ethanol concentration and is related wish the number of enzyme layers. As the number of deposited LB film layer increases up to 20 1ayers, the high ethanol concentration of 45mM can be measured without the saturation of signal. Surface pressure-area isotherm is measured for the three-different charged-lipids. Arachidic acid is the most suitable for the adsorption of alcohol dehydrogenase based on electrostatic force.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the most effective feedback condition for static balance in elderly subjects. METHODS: Thirty-eight elderly subjects (12 men and 26 women with a mean age of 77.21 years) participated in this study. They each completed a questionnaire on their general characteristics, excluding personal identification codes. The static balance ability of the participants was evaluated using a Wii Balance Board and the Balancia program (version 2.0). The following three feedback conditions were considered: condition 1 (tactile feedback), condition 2 (visual feedback), and condition 3 (no feedback). One-way repeated-measures analysis of variance was used for the comparisons according to sway length and sway velocity. The statistical significance level was set to α = .05 for all variables. RESULTS: Significant differences in the sway length and sway velocity were observed between the three conditions (p < .05). Significant differences in the sway length were noted in the order of conditions 1, 2, and 3 (p < .05), and significant differences in the sway velocity in the order of conditions 3, 2, and 1 (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Significant differences in static balance ability were observed between the three conditions. In this study, tactile feedback was found to be the most effective feedback for balance training. Owing to aging and impairment of the senses, such as that observed in the tactile receptors, visual receptors, and proprioceptors, it is recommended that elderly subjects participate in balance training.
In Korea, the ozone profiles have been acquired by using ozonesonde at Pohang station of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) since 1995. These ozone soundings were performed at 0500 UTC on a weekly basis (every Wednesday) in a clear sky. The ozonesonde is equipped with the model 5A ECC sensor, which is one of the most common ozonesonde systems. There have been no attempts to evaluate the Pohang ozonesonde profiles compared with satellite. This paper will provide the first evaluation results for the ozonesonde profiles against HALogen Occultation Experiment (HALOE) measurements over Korea. During 1995-2004 periods, a total of 450 and 188 ozone profiles were obtained from the ozonesonde measurements from HALOE measurements over Korea, respectively. Hence, a total of 34 coincident profile pairs are extracted. Among those total profiles, 26 profiles from ozonesonde are compared against nearly coincident HALOE measurements in time and space. For ozone profiles, the results of statistical analyses showed that the best agreement between two measurements occurs in the 20-25 km and 30-35 km region, where the mean and RMS percent differences are less than ${\pm}5$ and 14%, respectively. For temperature profiles, the mean and RMS percent differences in 20-25 km region are estimated to be about -0.1 and 1.7%, respectively. According to the scatter plots between two measurements, ozone data are strongly correlated each other above 20 km altitude range with more than 0.8 correlation coefficients. It is found that the altitude (pressure level) differences between two measurements would mainly lead to the discrepancy (over 40% below 18 km) below 20 km in ozone profiles.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) is performed by artificial ventilation and thoracic compression for the patient under emergent situation to maintain at least the minimum level of respiration and blood circulation for life survival. Quality of the pre-hospital CPR not only significantly affects the patient's survival rate but also minimizes side effects caused by CPR. Good quality CPR requires monitoring respiration, however, traditional respiratory air flow transducers cannot be used because the transducer elements are located on the flow axis. The present study developed a new technique with no physical object on the flow stream but enabling the air flow measurement and easily incorporated with the CPR devices. A turbulence chamber was formed in the middle of the respiratory tube by locally enlarging the cross-sectional area where the flow related turbulence was generated inducing energy loss which was in turn converted into pressure difference. The turbulence chamber was simply an empty enlarged air space, thus no physical object was placed on the flow stream, but still the flow rate could be evaluated. Both inspiratory and expiratory flows were obtained with symmetric measurement characteristics. Quadratic curve fitting provided excellent calibration formula with a correlation coefficient>0.999 (P<0.0001) and the mean relative error<1 %. The present results can be usefully applied to accurately monitor the air flow rate during CPR.
UK Met Office Unified Model (UM) is a grid model applicable for both global and regional model configurations. The Met Office has developed a 4D-Var data assimilation system, which was implemented in the global forecast system on 5 October 2004. In an effort to improve its Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) system, Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has adopted the UM system since 2008. The aim of this study is to provide the basic information on the effects of satellite data assimilation on UM performance by conducting global satellite data denial experiments. Advanced Tiros Operational Vertical Sounder (ATOVS), Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), Special Sensor Microwave Imager Sounder (SSMIS) data, Global Positioning System Radio Occultation (GPSRO) data, Air Craft (CRAFT) data, Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) data were assimilated in the UM global system. The contributions of assimilation of each kind of satellite data to improvements in UM performance were evaluated using analysis data of basic variables; geopotential height at 500 hPa, wind speed and temperature at 850 hPa and mean sea level pressure. The statistical verification using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) showed that most of the satellite data have positive impacts on UM global analysis and forecasts.

Treatment for cerebral blood flows is one of the most important treatments for cerebral infarction. There is a concern that the increasing number of cerebral blood flow treatments can cause multiple complications as it is invasive. To compensate for these problems, recently non-invasive cerebral blood flow increases have emerged. However, the current implementation of the non-invasive cerebral blood flow sensor raises the question of speed and accuracy. In this theses, the system aims to minimize the final cortical damage to the cerebrum by implementing a system in a completely different manner to complement the disadvantages of the existing non-invasive cerebral blood flow device. The system measure the PI of the limbs while simultaneously pressing limbs. Blood flow rate is carried out indirectly by increasing blood flow to peer pressure through the limbs in which the PI eips below a certain level. This can be used selectively in patients to increase blood flow.
The gas adsorption isotherm requires accurate measurement for the analysis of porous materials and is used as an index of surface area, pore distribution, and adsorption amount of gas. Basically, adsorption isotherms of porous materials are measured conventionally at 77K and 87K using liquid nitrogen and liquid argon. The cold volume calibration in this conventional method is done simply by splitting a sample cell into two zones (cold and warm volumes) by controlling the level sensor in a Dewar filled with liquid nitrogen or argon. As a result, BET measurement for textural properties is mainly limited to liquefied gases (i.e. $N_2$ or Ar) at atmospheric pressure. In order to independently investigate other gases (e.g. hydrogen isotopes) at cryogenic temperature, a novel temperature control system in the sample cell is required, and consequently cold volume calibration at various temperatures becomes more important. In this study, a cryocooler system is installed in a commercially available BET device to control the sample cell temperature, and the automated cold volume calibration method of temperature variation is introduced. This developed calibration method presents a reliable and reproducible method of cryogenic measurement for hydrogen isotope separation in porous materials, and also provides large flexibility for evaluating various other gases at various temperature.
