Performance Simulation of a Turboprop Engine for Basic Trainer

  • A performance simulation program for the turboprop engine (PT6A-62), which is the power plant of the first Korean indigenous basic trainer KT-1, was developed for performance prediction, development of an EHMS (Engine Health Monitoring System) and the flight simulator. Characteristics of components including compressors, turbines, power turbines and the constant speed propeller were required for the steady state and transient performance analysis with on and off design point analysis. In most cases, these were substituted for what scaled from similar engine components'characteristics with the scaling law. The developed program was evaluated with the performance data provided by the engine manufacturer and with analysis results of GASTURB program, which is well known for the performance simulation of gas turbines. Performance parameters such as mass flow rate, compressor pressure ratio, fuel flow rate, specific fuel consumption and turbine inlet temperature were discussed to evaluate validity of the developed program at various cases. The first case was the sea level static standard condition and other cases were considered with various altitudes, flight velocities and part loads with the range between idle and 105% rotational speed of the gas generator. In the transient analysis, the Continuity of Mass Flow Method was utilized under the condition that mass stored between components is ignored and the flow compatibility is satisfied, and the Modified Euler Method was used for integration of the surplus torque. The transient performance analysis for various fuel schedules was performed. When the fuel step increase was considered, the overshoot of the turbine inlet temperature occurred. However, in case of ramp increase of the fuel longer than step increase of the fuel, the overshoot of the turbine inlet temperature was effectively reduced.

  • 가스터빈엔진 압축기의 서지마진을 구하기 위하여 연료 돌출 시험을 수행하였다. 본 시험에 사용된 연료 돌출 신호는 엔진 제어기 신호에 중첩되어 연료 밸브를 제어하는 데 사용되었으며 신호 중첩을 위해 연료 제어기와 함수 발생기로 구성된 보조시스템이 사용되었다. 한국항공우주연구원의 고공엔진시험설비에서 실제 엔진 시험이 이루어졌으며 예비 시험결과, 연료 돌출 신호는 연료 라인과 압축기 토출부에서의 압력 신호와 잘 일치하였다. 이에 따라 특정 속도에서의 서지점을 측정하기 위한 시험이 수행되었으며 시험 결과 연료 돌출시험이 서지 측정에 매우 효과적임을 확인하였다.

초고층 공동주택의 소형풍력발전시스템 적용을 위한 수직연도 활용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vertical Flue Duct for Application of Small Wind Power System in High-Rise Apartments)

  • This study examined vertical shafts in high-rise apartments of the old high-rise buildings, reviewed the possibility of using flue ducts, and analyzed airflow patterns according to pressure differences between in and out side of flue ducts through computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The resulting conclusions are as follows: 1) The analysis results of airflow according to the stack effect of flue ducts show that smaller-diameter flue ducts(${\phi}1.2m$) would be morefavorable in increasing downward wind velocity than bigger-diameter ones(${\phi}1.6m$) and that the introduction ducts for outside air should be more than 50% of flue duct diameter to obtain a downward wind velocity higher than $3.0^m/s$ that is the minimum blade wind velocity of a small domestic wind generator. 2) The optimal installation location of a bypass introduction duct is the neutral plane of a flue duct or lower. When the diameter of the upper duct is bigger than that of the lower duct, it will generate more effects on the increase of downward wind velocity in flue ducts.

스마트 무인기 추진시스템의 주요 구성품 손상 탐지에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fault Detection of Main Component for Smart UAV Propulsion system)

  • PW206C 터보 축 엔진을 위해 신경회로망을 이용한 지능형 성능 진단 프로그램이 제안되었다. 이 엔진은 항공우주연구원에서 개발 중에 있는 틸트 로터 타입 스마트 무인기의 추진시스템으로 선정되었다. 스마트 무인기 추진시스템에서 계측되는 성능변수는 가스발생기 회전속도, 동력터빈 회전속도, 배기가스 온도, 토크 등 4개이다. 그러나 이러한 4개 계측변수로는 각 구성품의 손상 진단이 어려운 관계로 압축기 출구 압력 및 압축기 터빈 출구 온도를 포함한 6개의 계측변수를 진단에 이용하였다. 구성품 성능저하량을 판단하는 성능파라미터는 압축기, 압축기 터빈, 동력 터빈의 유량함수 및 효율이다. 신경망을 훈련하고 테스트하기 위한 데이터베이스는 가스터빈 성능모사 프로그램을 이용하여 구성하였다. 훈련된 신경망을 PW206C 터보 축 엔진의 진단에 적용한 결과 제안된 진단 알고리즘이 압축기 오염과 압축기 터빈의 침식과 같은 단일 손상을 탐지하는데 유용함을 확인하였다.

스포츠웨어용 투습발수직물의 마찰음과 역학적 성질 간의 상관성 (Relationship Between Frictional Sounds and Mechanical Properties of Vapor Permeable Water Repellent Fabrics for Active Wear)

  • Frictional sounds of 8 vapor permeable water repellent fabrics by sound generator were recorded and analyzed through FFT fast Fourier transform analysis. The frictional Sounds were quantified by calculating level pressure of total sound(LPT), the level range(${\Delta}L$) and the frequency difference(${\Delta}f$). Mechanical properties were measured by KES-FB. LPT values of specimens finished wet coating were higher than those of other kinds of finishing. ${\Delta}L$ values of specimens laminated were highest. Absolute values of ${\Delta}f$ were high in the cire finished and laminated specimens. Values for bending rigidity, shear stiffness and energy required for the compression of coated specimens increased compared with the cire finished and laminated specimens. Laminated specimens had high values of frictional coefficient and low values of surface roughness. Relationship between frictional sounds and mechanical properties analysed by use of correlation coefficients and stepwise regression. LPT showed significant correlation with elongation, tensile energy, geometrical roughness, weight and thickness. ${\Delta}L$ was highly correlated with tensile linearity, frictional coefficient, and ${\Delta}f$ with tensile linearity, weight and thickness. LPT were revealed to be explained by elongation and weight. ${\Delta}L$were predicted by tensile linearity, and ${\Delta}f$ by tensile linearity and thickness.

열음향파 발생장치의 최적 작동 조건에 대한 실험적 연구 (Study of Optimum Operating Conditions of Thermal Acoustic Generator)

  • 본 연구에서는 열음향 시스템의 음향파 출력에 대한 주요한 기하학적 변수에 대해 다루고 있다. 음향파의 출력은 스택의 위치와 스택의 길이, 입력 파워와 공진기의 길이에 의존한다. 본 실험을 통하여 최고의 실험 조건을 얻을 수 있었다. 실험결과에 의하면 최고 음압레벨은 폐쇄된 부분에서 공진기길이의 1/4 -1/2지점 사이에 스택을 위치시켰을 때, 공진기와 스택의 길이가 길 때, 그리고 입력전압이 증가할 때 나타난다. 또한 주파수의 경우 공진기의 길이가 200mm일 때 437Hz, 100mm일 때 885Hz를 기록하였다. 연구 결과 공진기의 길이가 짧을수록 더 높은 주파수를 얻을 수 있는 것을 알 수 있다.

  • As the nuclear power plant has been constructed continuously for several decades in Korea, the welding technology for components manufacturing and installation has been improved largely. Standardization for weld test and qualification was also established systematically according to the concerned code. The welding for the main components requires the high reliability to keep the constant quality level, which means the repeatability of weld quality. Therefore the weld process qualified by thorough test and evaluation is able to be applied for manufacturing. Narrow gap SAW and GTAW process are usually applied for girth seam welding of pressure vessel like Reactor vessel, steam generator, and etc. For the surface cladding with stainless steel and Inconel material, strip welding process is mainly used. Inside cladding of nozzles is additionally applied with Hot wire GTAW and semi-auto welding process. Especially the weld joint having elliptical weld line on curved surface needs a specialized weld system which is automatically rotating with adjusting position of the head torch. The small sized pipe, tube, and internal parts of reactor vessel requests precise weld processes like an automatic GTAW and electron beam welding. Welding of dissimilar materials including Inconel690 material has high possibility of weld defects like a lack of fusion, various types of crack. To avoid these kinds of problem, optimum weld parameters and sequence should be set up through the many tests. As the life extension of nuclear power plant is general trend, weld technologies having higher reliability is required gradually. More development of specialized welding systems, weld part analysis and evaluation, and life prediction for main components should be taken into a consideration extensively.

50kW급 가동물체형 고효율 파력발전시스템 설계 (Design of a 50kW Class Rotating Body Type Highly Efficient Wave Energy Converter)

  • A 50 kW class rotating body type wave energy converter consisted of two floating bodies and a PTO (Power Takeoff) unit is studied. As an wave energy extractor, the body is designed to have a VLCO (Variable Liquid-Column Oscillator) having a liquid filled U-tube with air chambers. Owing to the oscillation of the liquid in the U-tube caused by the air spring effect of the air chambers, the amplitude of response of the VLCO becomes significantly amplified for a target wave period. The PTO converts the rotational moment introduced from the relative motion of the hinged bodies to an hydraulic power by means of a cylinder. A high pressure accumulator, hydraulic motor and a generator are equipped in the PTO to convert the hydraulic power to electric power. A control law for adjusting the oscillation period of the VLCO is proposed for the efficient operation of the VLCO with various wave conditions. It is found that the effect of the air spring has an important role to play in making the oscillation of the VLCO match with the ocean wave. In this way, the wave energy converter equipped with the VLCO provides the most effective mode for extracting energy from the ocean wave.

선박발전기용 디젤엔진의 연소효율 개선에 관한연구 (Improvement of combustion efficiency for marine auxiliary diesel engine)

  • 엔진성능 분석을 위해서는 기관의 정확한 출력이 기본적으로 중요한 인자이며, 또한 오늘날 내연기관에서 연소압력 분석 장치는 엔진의 연구와 개발, 환경규제 및 엔진의 유지관리를 위해서 필수 장비로 대두 되고 있다. 엔진의 출력뿐만 아니라 연소상태를 분석하여 엔진의 상태에 대한 올바른 판단을 유도하고, 구체적인 개선방법을 제시하여 실질적으로 연료소비량을 절감하여, 엔진의 유지관리 및 운항비 절감에 도움이 되도록 하기위해서는 이를 위한 도구가 절실히 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 개발된 측정 장치를 이용하여 선박용 발전기관인 실험엔진의 연소분석을 행하였으며, 실험기관의 불규칙적인 연소상태를 체크하고 재조정하여 안정된 운전 상태를 유지할 수 있었음은 물론 연료절감에 기여할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로 엔진출력을 정확하게 측정할 수 있는 새로운 방법에 의한 측정 장치가 개발되었으며, 그 유용성이 입증되었다고 판단된다.

축류형 펌프에서 펌프전력을 이용한 유량산정 방범에 관한 연구 (The Study on a Flow-rate Calculation Method by the Pump Power in the Axial Flow Pumps)

  • It is the common features of the integral reactors that the main components of the RCS are installed within the reactor vessel, and so there are no any flow pipes connecting the steam generator or the pump whose type is the axial flow. Due to no any flow pipes, it is impossible to measure the differential pressure at the RCS of the integral reactors, and it also makes impossible measure the flow-rate of the reactor coolant. As a alternative method, the method by the measurement of the pump power of the axial flow pump has been introduced in this study. Up to now, we did not found out a precedent which the pump power is used for the flow-rate calculation at normal operation of the commercial nuclear power plants. The objective of the study is to embody the flow-rate calculation method by the measurement of the pump power in an integral reactor. As a result of the study, we could theoretically reason that the capacity-head curve and capacity-shaft power curve around the rated capacity with the high specific-speeded axial flow pumps have each diagonally steep incline but show the similar shape. Also, we could confirm the above theoretical reasoning from the measured result of the pump motor inputs. So, it has been concluded that it is possible to calculate the flow-rate by the measurement of the pump motor inputs.
