In this study, the microchannel plated heat exchanger were numerically studied for the enhancement of heat transfer in the channel configuration. Unit cold and hot fluid region with the microchannel were modeled and periodic boundary condition at the side wall was applied to continuously repeating geometry. The material of micro-structured plate is STS304 and working fluid is water. Triangular obstacles were placed in micro channel to enhance heat transfer. The performance of microchannel plated heat exchangers were numerically investigated with various obstacle configuration and Reynolds number under the parallel and counter flows. Heat transfer rate has increased about 18% compared with straight channel, but pressure drop also increased about 3.5 times. The main factor of increasing of pressure drop and heat transfer rate is considered that the momentum was lost to collide against obstacles, generation of secondary flow and boundary layer separation, wake and vortex forming phenomena.

This paper presents a boundary-layer wind tunnel (BLWT) study on the effect of variable dominant openings on steady and transient responses of wind-induced internal pressure in a low-rise building. The paper presents a parametric study focusing on differences and similarities between transient and steady-state responses, the effects of size and locations of dominant openings and vent openings, and the effects of wind angle of attack. In addition, the necessity of internal volume correction during sudden breaching, i.e., a transient response experiment was investigated. A comparison of the BLWT data with ASCE 7-2010, as well as with limited large-scale data obtained at a 'Wall of Wind' facility, is presented.
Turbulent flows around tube banks and in the diffuser were studied using a non-orthogonal boundary fitted coordinate system and the modified K-.epsilon. turbulence model. In these cases, many problems emerge which stem from the geometrical complexity of the flow domain and the physical complexity of turbulent flow itself. To treat the complex geometry, governing equations were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with Cartesian velocity components and discretised by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The modified K-.epsilon. model of Hanjalic and Launer was applied to solve above two cases under the condition of strong and mild pressure gradient. The results using the modified K-.epsilon. model results in both test cases.
In the present study, we studied the method of predicting the on-design and on-design point performance of axial flow fan with adjustable pitch blades. With the change of stagger angle of axial flow fan with adjustable pitch blade, flow rate and pressure can be changed. Because of this merit adjustable pitch fans are used in many industrial facility. When changing stagger angle or estimating the performance at a wide range of off-design condition, incidence angle changes greatly as the flow rate changes. Therefore, the deviation angle at the blade exit is estimated by the correlation considering the effects of blade design, incidence angle variation. In the loss model, we used known pressure loss model for blade boundary layer and wake, secondary flow, endwall boundary layer and tip leakage flow. The results of modified deviation angle model and experiment were compared for the usefulness of the modified model.
In a MEMS(micro-electro mechanical system), the fluid may slip near the surface of a solid and have a discontinuous temperature profile. A numerical prediction in this slip flow region can provide a reasonable guide for the design and fabrication of micro devices. The compressible Navier-Stokes equation with Maxwell/smoluchowski boundary condition is solved for two simple systems; couette flow and pressure driven flow in a long channel. We found that the couette flow could be regarded as an incompressible system in low speed regions. For the pressure driven flow system, we observed nonlinear distribution of pressure in the long channel and numerical results showed a good agreement with the experimental results.
In this research, the simulation method for acoustic sounds by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder by using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann model is explained. To begin with, we examine the boundary condition which determined with the distribution function $f_i^{(0)}$ concerning with density, velocity and internal energy at boundary node. Very small acoustic pressure fluctuation, with same frequency as that of Karman vortex street, is compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The acoustic sound' propagation velocity shows that acoustic approa ching the upstream, due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow, slowly propagated. For the do wnstream, on the other hand, it quickly propagates. It is also apparently the size of sound pressure was proportional to the central distance $r^{-1/2}$ of the circular cylinder. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for simulation of gas flows.
An numerical analysis was performed to obtain the design parameters for parallel micro-channels. The parallel micro-channels consist of 10 square channels with a hydraulic diameter of 300 ${\mu}m$ and inlet/outlet manifolds. The channel length is 5mm, 10mm and 40mm respectively. Mass flux was set between 200~600kg/m2s as inlet boundary condition and atmospheric pressure was set as outlet boundary condition. The pressure drop in channels and manifolds were estimated by using the Shah and London correlation and the flow uniformity was represented by the velocity distributions with dimensionless velocity. The results show that the flow uniformity in channels depends on shapes of manifolds, length and mass flux.
Feasibility study of gas-lubricated bearing in micro gas turbine was performed. Based on Reynolds equation, finite difference method with coupled boundary was developed to analyze bearing characteristics, such as load capacity, mass flow rates and stiffness. By the bearing force and mass flow rates analysis with the variation of supply pressure, bearing clearance and capillary radius, acceptable range of design parameters were suggested in terms of load capacity and stiffness of bearings. Additionally, coupled boundary effect on pressure distribution was investigated and it is stated that coupling could reduce an excitation force due to narrow pressure distribution.
In this study, steady state heat conduction problems of the cylinder block of turbocharged gasoline engine were solved by the boundary element method. Surface of the cylinder block was divided by the triangular cells with constant potential. Temperature distribution, effective heat transfer coefficient of the cylinder block were investigated with variation of equivalence ratio, engine speed and boost pressure. The results show that maximum temperature of cylinder block increase rapidly with increasing engine speed and boost pressure. The monolithic structure of cylinder block results in sever inhomogeneity of inner wall temperature at the high engine speed and boost pressure.
Feasibility study of gas-lubricated bearing in micro gas turbine was performed. Based on Reynolds equation, finite difference method with coupled boundary was developed to analyze bearing characteristics, such as load-carrying capacity, mass flow rates and stiffness. By the bearing force and mass flow rates analysis with the variation of supply pressure, bearing clearance and capillary radius, acceptable range of design parameters were suggested in terms of load capacity and stiffness of bearings. Additionally, coupled boundary effect on pressure distribution was investigated and it is stated that coupling could reduce all excitation force due to narrow pressure distribution.
