An experimental study was performed to understand spray characteristics of the slinger injector. system for the micro turbojet engine. In this fuel injection system, fuel is sprayed and atomized in the combustor by centrifugal forces of engine shaft. This experimental apparatus consist of a high speed rotating Spindle, slinger injector, pressure tank and acrylic case. The droplet size and velocity were measured by PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) and spray was visualized by using Nd-Yag laser-based flash photography. From the test results, the droplet size(SMD) is largely affected to rotational speed, mass flow rate and the number of injection orifice. From the this experimental study, we could understand the spray characteristics of the slinger injection system and obtain the optimum shape of the slinger injector nozzle which is suitable for the micro turbojet engine.

An experimental study has been performed to study the effect of the base slant angle of a 1/10 scale two-dimensional vehicle-like body on its wake flow including the recirculating region, where the simplified shape of the body has been originated from a profile of a domestic passenger car. In the case of a Reynolds number based on the length of the model R=7.96*10$^{5}$ , the surface pressure coefficient, the mean velocity and the turbulent stresses have been measured, while the flow visualization technique using wool tuft has been adopted as well. When the base slant angle of the model is 15.deg., the free stream flowing parallel to the slant is observed to be separated from the lower edge of the slant, thus forming the smallest recirculating region. When the base slant angles are 30.deg. and 45.deg., the free streams are separated from the upper edge of the slant and the sizes of the recirculating zones are observed to be almost the same as when the base slant angle is 0.deg. From these observations, it is conjectured that between the base slant angles of 15.deg. and 30.deg. there exists a critical angle at which the size of the recirculating region becomes minimum and as the slant angle becomes larger than this critical angle the separation line moves along the slant towards the rear edge of the roof. Through the flow visualization technique, the existence of the two counter-rotating bubbles in the recirculating region has been clearly observed and verified.

In this study, the numbers, sizes of particles from a single cylinder direct injection spark-ignition (DISI) engine fuelled with gasoline and LPG are examined over a wide range of engine operating conditions. Tests are conducted with various engine loads (2~10bar of IMEP) and fuel injection pressures (60, 90, and 120 bar) at the engine speed of 1,500 rpm. Particles are sampled directly from the exhaust pipe using rotating disk thermodiluter. The size distributions are measured using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and the particle number concentrations are measured using a condensation particle counter (CPC). The results show that maximum brake torque (MBT) timing for LPG fuel is less sensitive to engine load and its combustion stability is also better than that for gasoline fuel. The total particle number concentration for LPG was lower by a factor of 100 compared to the results of gasoline emission due to the good vaporization characteristic of LPG. Test result presents that LPG for direct injection spark ignition engine help the particle emission level to reduce.

This paper proposes a drone flight trajectory method for accurate air pollutant emission designation detection. In areas with many factories, such as industrial complexes, there are workplaces that illegally emit air pollutants in a situation where monitoring is neglected. In the past, studies have been actively conducted to measure air pollutants in these areas using drones. The measurement method using a drone uses a method of detecting pollution by stopping around the chimney of a factory, but it has a problem in that the detection of air pollutants is inaccurate depending on environmental factors such as air pressure and wind. Therefore, this paper proposes a drone flight trajectory method for accurate air pollutant emission designation detection. This paper devises a screw orbit flight method in which a drone flies upward while rotating the chimney, and the total area of the chimney is detected and measured considering environmental factors. In the experiment, our proposal shows a higher performance than the existing method.

The present study investigates the effects of various rib arrangements on heat/mass transfer in the cooling passage of gas turbine blades. A complex flow structure occurs in the cooling passage with rib turbulators which promote heat transfer on the wall. It is important to increase not only the heat transfer rates but also the uniformity of heat transfer in the cooling passage. A numerical computation is performed using a commercial code to calculate the flow structures and experiments are conducted to measure heat/mass transfer coefficients using a naphthalene sublimation technique. A square channel (50 mm $\times$ 50 mm) with rectangular ribs (4 mm $\times$ 5 mm) is used fur the stationary duct test. The experiments focus on the effects of rib arrangements and gap positions in the discrete ribs on the heat/mass transfer on the duct wall. The rib angle of attack is 60°and the rib-to-rib pitch is 32 mm, that is 8 times of the rib height. With the inclined rib angle of attack (60°), the parallel rib arrangements make a pair of counter rotating secondary flows in the cross section, but the cross rib arrangements make a single large secondary flow including a small secondary vortex. These secondary flow patterns affect significantly the heat/mass transfer on the ribbed wall. The heat/mass transfer in the parallel arrangements is 1.5 ∼2 times higher than that in the cross arrangements. However, the shifted rib arrangements change little the heat/mass transfer from the inline rib arrangements. The gap position in the discrete rib affects significantly the heat/mass transfer because a strong flow acceleration occurs locally through the gap.
The High Temperature Superconducting power cables (HTS power cables) become increasingly longer to commercialize the HTS power cable system. Accordingly, demands on refrigerators of large cooling capacity per a unit system have been increased. In Korea, it is currently imported from abroad with the high price due to insufficient domestic technologies. In order to commercialize the HTS power cables, it is necessary to develop the refrigerators with large cooling capacity. The Brayton refrigerators are composed of recuperative heat exchangers, compressors and cryogenic turbo expanders. The most directly considering the efficiency of the Brayton refrigerator, it depends on performance of the cryogenic turbo expander. Rotating at high speed in cryogenic temperature, the cryogenic turbo expanders lower temperature by expanding high pressure of a helium or neon gas. In this paper, the reverse Brayton cycle is designed and the cryogenic turbo expander is designed in accordance with the thermodynamic cycle.

A centrifugal turbo blower is one of the part to generate electric power of fuel cell electric vehicle(FCEV). In order to generate the electric power of FCEV, the centrifugal turbo blower operates at very high speed above 30,000rpm in order to increase the pressure of the air, which supplied to a stack of FCEV, using rotation of its impeller blades. Vibration which originated from the blower is generated by unbalance of mechanical components, rotation of bearings and rotating asymmetry that rotate at high speed. The vibration is transmitted to receiving structure through vibration isolators and it can causes serious problems in the noise, vibration and harshness(NVH) performance. Thus, the study about reducing this kind of vibration is an important task. Quantifying the effectiveness of vibration isolation can be effectively accomplished by using vibrational power flow because relative contributions of each isolator to the total vibration transmission can be easily represented. In this paper, vibrational power flow is applied to the centrifugal turbo blower mounted on FCEV in order to analyze the most dominant vibration transmitting path. As a result, the main contributor among four isolators is a mount #3 of the blower. Also, a 30 percent lowering of the mount #3 stiffness shows 34 percent decrement of vibrational power flow by the simulation.
The increased brightness and focused X-ray beams now available from laboratory X-ray sources facilitates a variety of powder diffraction experiments not practical using conventional in-house sources. Furthermore, the increased availability of 2-dimensional area detectors, along with implementation of improved software and customized sample environmental cells, makes possible new classes of in-situ and time-resolved diffraction experiments. These include phase transitions under variable pressure- and temperature conditions and ion-exchange reactions. Examples of in-situ and time-resolved studies which are presented here include: (1) time-resolved data to evaluate the kinetics and mechanism of ion exchange in mineral natrolite; (2) in-situ dehydration and thermal expansion behaviors of ion-exchanged natrolite; and (3) observations of the phases forming under controlled hydrostatic pressure conditions in ion-exchanged natrolite. Both the quantity and quality of the in-situ diffraction data are such to allow evaluation of the reaction pathway and Rietveld analysis on selected dataset. These laboratory-based in-situ studies will increase the predictability of the follow-up experiments at more specialized beamlines at the synchrotron.
A study on friction welding of carbon steel bar (SM45C) to chrome molybedenum steel bar(SCM4) is examined experimentally through tensile test, hardness test, microstructure test and fatigue test. so, this paper deals with optimizing the welding concitions and analyzing various mechanical properties about friction welds of SM45C to SCM4 steel bars. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1) For friction welded joints of SM45C to SCM4 steel bars, the total upset(U)increases linearly with an increase of heating time ($t_{1}$) till 6s. 2) The determined optimum welding conditions are heating time ($t_{1}$)2s, upsetting time($t_{2}$), 3s, heating pressure($p_{1}$), 4kgf/$mm^{2}$(39.2MPa), upsetting pressure($p_{2}$, 8kgf/mm$^{2}$(78.4MPa) and rotating speed(N), 2, 000rpm when the total upset(U) is 3.4mm, resulting in a computed relationship between the joint tensile strength .sigma.$_{t}$ (kgf/mm$^{2}$and the total upset U(mm); .sigma.$_{t}$ =$0.21U^{3}$ - $3.38U^{2}$ +17.03U + 66.00 3) As the elongation is increased more and more, the fracture position becomes away from weld interface and the fractures are similar to those of SM45C. Fracture is taken place on SM45C side. 4) The weld interface of two dissimilar materials is mixed strongly, and the heat affected zone is about 2.0mm at SM45C while about 2.7 mm at SCM4 side. Therefore, the welded zone and heat affected zone are very narrow, comparing with those of the joints welded by the other welding methods. 5) The fatigue strengths at N=10$^{6}$ cycles of SM45C, SCM4 and friction welded joints are 23kgf/$mm^{2}$, 33kgf/$mm^{2}$(220.5 MPa), and 22.5kgf/$mm^{2}$(220.5MPa) respectively, and fracture at friction welded joint takes place at the side of SM45C. 6) The hardness of the friction weld interface is 3 times higher than that of base metal. 7) Fatigue strength of friction welded joint is higher than that of base metal. 8) Notch sensitivity factor of friction welded joint is lower than that of base metal.

We design a four-stage propane-refrigerant centrifugal compressor for an LNG plant. Using a commercial code, we aerodynamically designed the compressor at each design point of the corresponding stages. We estimated the one-dimensional aerodynamic design output and the three-dimensional shape of the impeller flow passage via three-dimensional flow analysis. In particular, we discuss in detail the flow characteristics of the impeller and the vaneless diffuser passages of the fourth-stage compressor in terms of the velocity fields, the pressure, and the entropy distributions of the flow passages. We include the flow effects of the tip clearance flow, because at this stage the rotating speed and total inlet pressure are higher than those at the other compressor stages are. We carried out performance tests of the designed compressor stages using propane as a refrigerant in the LNG cycle. The practical evaluation could lead to design enhancements in the future.
