The isometric torque of the elbow flexor and extensor muscles were measured for 6 seconds at a joint angle of 90$^{\circ}$ , in 10 normal subjects (control group) and 10 hemiplegic subjects(patient group), using the Cybex NORMTM System. The peak torque, the time to peak torque were measured for each exercise. In addition, heart rate and blood pressure were recorded simultaneously at rest and immediately following exercise completion at 1 and 3m mutes. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 8.0 for Windows software and mean and standard deviations were calculated. The results are as follows. 1) In the patient involved group. the isometric values for flexors and extensors were significantly lower than in the normal nondominant group(p<.05). 2) The extensor to flexor strength ratio in the isometric mode was 121.0% in the patient involved group compared with 78.7%in the normal nondominant group, a significant difference(p<.05). 3) The mean increment ratio was increased 19.0% for systolic blood pressure and 25.2% for disatolic blood pressure in the patient group. 4) The mean increment ratio was increased 36.0% heart rate in the patient group.

The torque converter is deformed according to the rotating speed and control pressure when engine power is transferred to the transmission. This deformation, which is called ballooning phenomenon, occurs mainly at the outer side by the centrifugal force of the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) and the control pressure from the valve body. Although the torque converter is slightly deformed when rotating, the ballooning phenomenon affects fluid performance, efficiency and durability. Thus, expansion characteristics analysis is important in determining torus size, control pressure and structure. In this paper, an analysis equation and FEM model was developed to investigate the expansion characteristics. Using this model, structural analysis was performed to investigate the relationships between deformation and the torus diameter. The results were confirmed by comparing with the test results.

In this study, the torque and horizontal stress acting on vane were measured and then used to determine a friction angle of sand. A dry Nakdong River sand was prepared for loose and dense conditions in a cell and then pressurized with 25, 50, 75 or 100 kPa from the surface of sand. A vane (5cm in diameter and 10cm in height) was rotated and the torque and horizontal stress were measured at real time. A maximum torque was 3.5-9.5Nm for loose sand and 7.4-17.6Nm for dense sand, respectively. The maximum torque increased as an overburden pressure increased. The maximum torque obtained at 14-20 degrees of vane rotation, which was not influenced by the initial alignment of earth pressure and vane blade. An initial horizontal stress ratio was 0.33-0.35 on the average. The horizontal stress increased initially and then decreased due to particle disturbance. A friction angle was calculated from real time varying horizontal stress and torque, which decreased with increasing overburden pressure. The friction angle of loose sand from vane shear test was similar to that of direct shear test but that of dense sand was overestimated.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of design parameters of modulating valve and hydraulic clutch on the shift quality of a power shuttle transmission using a computer simulation. Computer simulation models of a hydraulic control system and a power shuttle drive train were developed and verified by an experimental power train in a laboratory. The software EASY5 was used for the modeling and simulation of the power shuttle transmission. Results of the study were summarized as follows: For a good shift quality. it is required to reduce the transient torque transmitted to the output shaft of the transmission as much as possible. This may be achieved by reducing the modulating time and clutch pressure. It was found that the design parameters most significantly affecting the modulating time and clutch pressure were the spring constant and displacement of a load piston of the modulating valve, and the spring constant and damping of the clutch piston. The modulating time decreased as the spring constant increased and increased as the displacement of the load piston decreased. The transient torque decreased as the modulating time increased. However their relationships were not always linear. As the damping decreased, both the modulating pressure and time decreased, which also resulted in a decrease in the transient torque. The spring constant of the clutch piston affected the modulating time and the peak transient torque. As the spring constant of the clutch increased, the peak transient torque decreased.
A dynamic model of a power shuttle transmission was developed and its validity was verified using the experimental data obtained from a transmission test bench. A 40㎾, 4WD tractor was also modeled using an application software EASY5 to investigate parameters and their effects on the power shifting performance. For a tractor model, the manual reverse gear was replaced by a power shuttle transmission. The tractor model also included an engine, main-gears for transmission, wheels, differentials and planet gears. Using the tractor model, the effects of the parameters such as modulating pressure and time, engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight. reverse to forward speed ratio and torsional damper on the transient characteristics at starting and shuttle shifting were investigated by the computer simulation. The transient characteristics were represented by variations in clutch pressure, torque transmitted to input shaft and driving wheels, and power transmission capacity of the clutch. It was found that the modulating pressure and time affected most significantly the torque transmission and shifting time. The input torque, axle torque, power transmission capacity of the clutch and transmission time all increased with increase in engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight and ratio of reverse to forward speeds. However, the axle torque decreased with tractor speed. Both the axle torque and power transmission capacity of the clutch also decreased with the ratio of reverse to forward speeds.
Reducing friction torque of the oil hydraulic vane pump used as the power source of power steering system should consider friction torque including viscous and mechanical friction torque according to the changes of rpm and pressure. This paper analyzes the forces acting on the vane to reduce the friction torque of the vane of the hydraulic vane pump used for Hydraulic Power Steering(HPS) system, and futhermore, the forces according to the shapes of cam profiles are analyzed.

In this paper, a friction compensation method using a disturbance observer is proposed for an impedance control of pneumatic manipulator. It is assumed that the generated torque by a pneumatic actuator can be estimated based on the pressure signals and the discharge volume. In order to improve the dynamic characteristics of the pneumatic actuator driven by meter out method, we construct the inner torque control system by feeding back the generated torque. In order to reduce the influence of disturbances comprising friction torque and parameter variations of plant, the impedance control system is constructed with a disturbance observer which estimates the disturbances based on the generated torque of pneumatic actuator, the angular velocity and the reaction torque. From some experiments, it is confirmed that the proposed control system is effective to improve the robustness for the friction torque in the impedance control of a pneumatic manipulator.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of intake manifold shapes to improve the engine performance in a 3-cylinder LPG engine with a closed loop fuel supply system. To know the flow resistance of intake manifolds with shape, the intake negative pressure of each runner in intake manifolds were measured by using the digital pressure meter at each driving condition. And, the engine torque and power have been measured with an engine dynamometer while adjusting the optimal fuel consumption ratio with a solenoid driver. As 속 results form this experiment, the torque characteris- tics were more improved with the plenum chamber(B type intake manifold) than with the banana type(A type intake manifold). The torque characteristics were improved at mid-engine speed(rpm) range as the inner diameter of the intake manifold became smaller. And also the optimum volume among the examined plenum chamber volume was 0.74 times(590cc) the displacement of the test engine.

Various jet engines (Turbine engine family and RAM Jet engine) have been developed for high speed aircrafts. but their application to hypersonic flight is restricted by principle problems such as increase of total pressure loss and thermal stress. Therefore, the development of next generation propulsion system for hypersonic aircraft is a very important subject in the aerospace engineering field, SCRAM Jet engine based on a key technology, Supersonic Combustion. is supposed as the best choice for the hypersonic flight. Since Supersonic Combustion requires both rapid ignition and stable flame holding within supersonic air stream, much attention have to be given on the mixing state between air stream and fuel flow. However. the wider diffusion of fuel is expected with less total pressure loss in the supersonic air stream. So. in this study the direction of fuel injection is inclined 30 degree to downstream and the total pressure of jet is controlled for lower penetration height than thickness of boundary layer. Under these flow configuration both streams, fuel and supersonic air stream, would not mix enough. To spread fuel wider into supersonic air an aerodynamic force, baroclinic torque, is adopted. Baroclinic torque is generated by a spatial misalignment between pressure gradient (shock wave plane) and density gradient (mixing layer). A wedge is installed in downstream of injector orifice to induce an oblique shock. The schlieren optical visualization from side transparent wall and the total pressure measurement at exit cross section of combustor estimate how mixing is enhanced by the incidence of shock wave into supersonic boundary layer composed by fuel and air. In this study non-combustionable helium gas is injected with total pressure 0.66㎫ instead of flammable fuel to clarify mixing process. Mach number 1.8. total pressure O.5㎫, total temperature 288K are set up for supersonic air stream.
This paper presents a new method of dynamics-based synthesis of bipedal, especially human, walking. The motion of the body at a time point is determined by ground reaction force and torque under the support foot and joint torques of the body at that time point. Motion synthesis involves specifying conditions that constrain ground reaction force and torque, and joint torques so that a given desired motion may be achieved. There are conditions on a desired motion which end-users can think of easily, e.g. the goal position and orientation of the swing foot for a single step and the time period of a single step. In this paper, we specify constraints on the motion of the support foot, which end-users would find difficult to specify. They are constraints which enforce non-sliding, non-falling, and non-spinning the support foot. They are specified in terms of joint torques and ground reaction force and torque. To satisfy them, both joint torques and ground reaction force and torque should be determined appropriately. The constraints on the support foot themselves do not give any good clues as to how to determine ground reaction force and torque. For that purpose, we specify desired trajectories of the application point of vertical ground reaction force (ground pressure) and the application point of horizontal ground reaction (friction) force. The application points of vertical pressure and friction force are good control variables, because they are indicators to kinds of walking motions to synthesize. The synthesis of a bipedal walking motion, then, consists of finding a trajectory of joint torques to achieve a given desired motion, so that the constraints are satisfied under the condition of the prescribed center of pressure and center of friction. Our approach is distinguished from many other approaches, e.g. the inverted-pendulum approach, in that it captures and formulates dynamics of the support foot and reasonable constraints on it.
