  • In this paper, we present the exact Riemann solver for the compressible liquid-gas two-phase shock tube problems. We hereby consider both isentropic and non-isentropic two-phase flows. The shock tube has a diaphragm in the mid-section which separates the liquid medium on the left and the gas medium on the right. By rupturing the diaphragm, various waves are observed on the phasic field variables such as pressure, density, temperature and void fraction in the form of rarefaction wave, shock wave and material interface (contact discontinuity). Both phases are treated as compressible fluids using the linearized equation of state or the stiffened-gas equation of state. We solve several shock tube problems made of a high/low pressure in the liquid and a low/high pressure in the gas. The wave propagations are well resolved by the exact Riemann solutions.

  • The main objective of the research is to develop a research code solving transient incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. In this research code, Adams-Bashforth method was applied to the convective terms of the navier stokes equation and the splitted equations were discretized spatially by finite element methods to solve the complex geometry problems easily. To reduce the divergence on the boundaries of pressure poisson equation due to the unsuitable pressure boundary conditions, multi step approximation pressure boundary conditions derived from the boundary linear momentum equations were used. Simulations of Lid Driven Flow and Flow over Cylinder were conducted to prove the accuracy by means of the comparison with results of the previous workers.

  • Thermophoresis in dense gases is studied by using a multi-scale approach and Born- YvonGreen (BYG) equation. The problem of a particle movement in an ambient dense gas under temperature gradient is divided into inter and outer ones. The pressure gradient in the inner region is obtained from the solutions of BYG equation. The velocity profile is derived from the conservation equations and calculated using the pressure gradient, which provides the particle velocity in the outer problem. It is shown that the temperature gradient applied to the quiescent ambient gas induces some pressure gradient and thus flow tangential to the particle surface in the interfacial region. The mechanism that induces the flow may be the dominant source of the thermophretic particle movement in dense gases. It is also shown that the particle velocity has a nonlinear relationship with the applied temperature gradient and decreases with increasing temperature.

  • Hydraulic hose assemblies deliver a fluid power in various oil pressure equipments such as construction machinery, automobile, aircraft, industrial machinery, machine tools, and machinery for ships, or they are used as pipes in oil pressure circuit. However, as the traditional measure for estimating life under the influence of various external factors incurs hardship in terms of time and expenses, it is essential to take accelerated life test by choosing the factor that suits the usage condition of the test object. The objective of the this study is to propose a acceleration model that takes both temperature and pressure without flexing condition into consideration. The life that is calculated by the equation for evaluating life and the test data show similar slopes as a result of comparing and analyzing the equation for evaluating life that is obtained in this research and the test data, which illustrates that they estimate life similarly, and the proposed equation is proved to be an accelerated life equation that presents the test results.

  • Brake theory of viscosity, which can sucessfully calculate the viscosity of real gases, dense gases and liquids, is extended to the binary gas mixture. Adjustable parameters are not involved, but the calculated results are good agreements with the experimental values at high pressure as well as low pressure. Corresponding state equation for viscosity can be obtained by using the Redlich-Kwong equation, so that we hope this equation may be useful for the supercritical fluid in engineering applications at high pressure around the critcal point.

  • This paper presents an experimental measurement of effective thermal conductivity in an adsorbent packed bed with silica gel A type. The effective thermal conductivity was measured under different conditions of the adsorbent bed temperature, pressure, particle size and water content by using the transient hot wire method. The measured effective thermal conductivity showed to become bigger with decreasing particle size or increasing water content, but it was a little affected with increasing bed temperature and pressure. The bed temperature was varied in the range of 1$0^{\circ}C$ (equation omitted) T (equation omitted) 5$0^{\circ}C$ and the pressure in the range of 10 kPa (equation omitted) P (equation omitted) 190 kPa. The results show that 0.10~0.18 W/mㆍK of effective thermal conductivity measured for the zero water content.

  • In this study, flow analysis was performed on three types of strainers for ships with different flow rates to predict the pressure drop of the strainer due to the filter of strainer. In the case of flow analysis, the flow analysis was performed by applying the porous media method by applying the resistance value derived by Ergun's equation to the filter position. As a result of the analysis, it was found that when the dimensions of the strainer body were small, the influence of the flow rate on the pressure drop was large. In addition, the amount of pressure drop and the flow rate are almost linearly proportional, and an analysis formula that can predict the amount of pressure drop was derived. In order to predict the amount of pressure drop of the strainer when blockage exist in the strainer filter, the analysis was performed by introducing the resistance ratio to derive the prediction equation. Using this equation, it is thought that it will be possible to predict the performance of the strainer due to blockage in the future strainer design and field application.

  • The fast refueling process of compressed hydrogen has an important impact on the filling efficiency and safety. With the development and use of hydrogen energy, the demand for precision measurement of filling hydrogen thermodynamic parameters is also increasing. In this paper, the compressibility factor calculation model of high-pressure hydrogen gas was studied, and the basic equation of state and thermo-physical parameters were calculated. The hydrogen density data provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology was compared with the calculation results of each model. Results show that at a pressure of 0.1-100 MPa and a temperature of 233-363 K, the calculation accuracy of the Zheng-Li equation of state was less than 0.5%. In the range of 0.1-70 MPa, the accuracy of Redich-Kwong equation is less than 3%. The hydrogen pressure more influences on the compressibility factor than the hydrogen temperature does. Using the Zheng-Li equation of state to calculate the compressibility factor of on-board high pressure hydrogen can obtain high accuracy.

  • Model tests were performed to investigate the mechanism of lateral earth pressure on a buried pipe, which was installed in a plastic flowing soil mass undergoing lateral movement. On the basis of failure mode tests, the equation of lateral earth pressure to apply Maxwell's visco-elastic model was proposed to consider the soil deformation velocity. Through a series of model tests of differential soil deformation velocity, lateral earth pressure of theoretical equation was compared with experimental results. When lateral soil movement was raised, the lateral earth pressure acting on buried pipe increases linearly with the soil deformation velocity. It shows that the lateral earth pressure on buried pipe is largely affected by soil deformation velocity. When plastic soil movement was raised, lateral earth pressure predicted by theoretical equation showed good agreement with experimental results. Also, coefficient of viscosity by theoretical equation had a good agreement with direct shear test results.

  • carried out to present a rheology model which is able to treat time-dependent properties of clay. The results were summarized as follow ; 1. The slope (a(e1)) of deviator stress in strain rate test was independent on axial strain, and pore water pressure was decreased with increment of strain rate. 2. The pore water pressure in a stress relaxation condition was not changed when the strain rate before stress relaxation was 0.05%/min., but it was increased with increment of time when the strain rate before stress relaxation was 0.2%/min 3. The greater the stress condition (q/qmax) and the strain rate before creep test became, the greater the increment rate of axial strain in creep test became. 4. SEKIGUCHI's constitutive equation was slightly overpredicted while empirical equation proposed in the study was well coincided with measured values. 5. The constitutive equation induced by a strain function could be dealed with a behavior of the pore water pressure increased with increment of elapsed time after primary consolidation.
