  • During sheet metal forming on a double-action press, drawbeads on the blankholder supply a restraining force which controls the flow of metal into the die. The sheet formability can be improved by the optimum drawbeads installation when the punch enters into the die opening. Experiments on the various drawbeads, circular, step, double circular, and circular-step drawbead, have been performed under various working conditions.

  • The multistage precision forming process for aperture of electronic guns consists mainly of drawing and swaging operations. The multistage forming sequence is analyzed in view of production industry, and based on the industrial investigation. The processes are simulated by the finite element code MARC. The elastic recovery, strain and stress distribution, and the die forces are summarized.

  • In this paper, a new forming process of large-size forgings of converged nozzle-shape is developed by the experimental study using the incremental forging method and combined forming method. The development of the forming process is focused on the manufacturing of large-size forgings by the press with medium load capacity. Various related processes are proposed and modelling experiments using plasticine are carried out. Thus, the incremental forging method for expanding is recommanded from the study of formability and forming load, etc. The selected process is then subjected to modelling experiments of lead and the design parameters such as preform for final process, die-width of the upper die and reduction amount of each stroke are determined. In order to verify the effectiveness of the selected process, 1/7 scale prototype experiment of the real material is carried out. Forgings of converged nozzle shape can be produced by the developed process within the limit loads and with the simple tools.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of multi-action die or multiple sliding die for the forming process of serrated sheets. Serrated sheets is used as a toothed or serrated seal for securing together overlapping portions of steel or plastic strapping ligature and have been produced conventionally in several methods such as rolling and indentation. Recently, longitudinally oriented thermoplastic materials have been widely used in the strapping industry, while such materials are quite slippery. Provided projections on a seal biting into the strap should overcome the slipperiness and also the tooth configuration must be closely controlled to avoid too much transverse penetration of the strap which could result in the shredding of the strap when it is placed under tension. The seal includes a central portion with a plurality of teeth which bite into one strap portion and a pair of reversely bent legs with a plurality of teeth which bite into the other strap portion. Forming processes applicable for serrated sheets have reviewed in qualitative sense to find possibility in terms of applicability of one of existing processes to the serrated sheet forming process. Existing seal products have been analyzed with enlarged picture of strap contacting surface of the seal by microscope. Based on the analyses of the existing forming processes and seal products, a new forming process is proposed for serrated sheets. The proposed process requires a multislide die which enables inclined indentation or cut-in into the seal material as well as scratching processes sequentially in a single action press.

초미세 금속 박판의 마이크로 채널 포밍 (Micro Channel Forming with Ultra Thin Metal Foil)

  • Our research dealt with micro fabrication using micro forming process. The goal of the research was to establish the limit of forming process concerning the size of forming material and formed shape. Flat-rolled ultra thin metallic foils of pure copper(3.0 and $1.0{\mu}m$ in thickness)and stainless steel($2.5{\mu}m$ in thickness) were used for forming material. We obtained the various shapes of micro channels as using designed forming process. $12-14{\mu}m$ wide and $9{\mu}m$ deep channels were made on $3.0{\mu}m$ thick foil and $6{\mu}m$ wide and $3{\mu}m$deep channels were made on $1.0{\mu}m$ thick foil. Si wafer die for forming was fabricated by using etching technique. And the relation of etching time and die dimension was investigated for fabricating precisely die groove. For the forming, die and metal foil were vacuum packed and the forming was conducted with a cold isostatic press. The formed channels were examined in terms of their dimension, surface qualities and potential for defects. Base on the examinations, formability of ultra thin metallic foil was also discussed. Finally, we compared the forming result with simulation. The result of research showed that metal forming technology is promising to produce micro parts.

  • A process sequence in precison press forming of electronic components is investigated by the finite element method. Aperture, a key component of electronic gun, is formed through a wequence of about 15 operations, among which the beading & bending, the first coining, and the second coining operations are expected to be most critical in view of industrial experts' opinions. Thus, the analysis performed by a commercial code MARC focuses on the three operations, and comparisons are made between the results of the analysis and the measurement of experimental forming of the component, and it appears a sound agreement.

  • Drawbead formulation is the first process together with a binder wrap process in a sheet metal forming process. The purpose of a drawbead is to control the flow of the metal into the die in panel press forming. To simulate the drawbead formation process, an elasto-plastic finite element formulation is derived from the equilibrium equation an drelated boundary conditions considering the proper contact conditons. The developed finite element program is applied to drawbead formation in the plane strain condition. The simulation of drawbead formation produces the distribution fo stress and strain along the bead and the resultant elongation of the sheet in the cavity region with respect to various cavity dimensions of the sheet as well as the punch force of a drawbead and the amount of draw-in with respect to the stroke fo a drawbead. The numerical resutls provides the fundamental information as a boundary condition to analyze the complex binder wrap phenomena and panel press forming in simple way.

Al6063 합금 중공각재 튜브에 의한 프레스 성형 연구 (A Study on the Press Forming by Rectangular Tube of Al6063 Alloys)

  • In this study, a method for the press forming of rectangular aluminium tube has been proposed. Rectangular aluminium tube has high stiff as the cold steel which can be lighter over 30% weight. It is increased every year by being recycled over 80%. Press die consists of punch, wing-die and holder for aluminium tube bending. When punch is applied with aluminium tube, holder is operated as same punch and wing-die is rotated through hinge. Stress-strain relations and springback are considered by bending angle of aluminium tube. In this study, the behaviors on tubes of square aluminium and rectangular aluminium with different thickness and area are established by the analysis of $DEFORM^{TM}$-3D program. Reducing fuel consumption is expected by using the aluminium tube deformation and it becomes the lightweight through recycling.
