  • In the present study we consider a mathematical model of a non-interactive type autotroph-herbivore system in which the amount of autotroph biomass consumed by the herbivore is assumed to follow a Holling type II functional response. We have also incorpo-rated discrete time delays in the numerical response term to represent a delay due to gestation and in the recycling term which represent a delay due to gestation and in the recycling term which represents the time required for bacterial decomposition. We have derived con-dition for global asymptotic stability of the model in the absence of delays. Conditions for delay-induced asymptotic stability of the steady state are also derived. The length of the delay preserving stability has been estimated and interpreted ecologically.

  • When surveying the cultural heritages especially in the case of stone structures, preserving their originalstate is of primary importance. For the effective assessment of survey results of stone structure, thedynamic characteristics of that system should be considered. Dynamic characteristics of stone masonry structures depend on several factors such as coefficients of friction, contact conditions, and number of layers of bonding stones. These factors can be estimated by using the dynamic analysis results. This paper describes a method for natural frequency determination of traditional stone arch bridge subjected to compressive force. For this purpose, multi-layered granite brick models of for arch bridge were made and fundamental frequencies corresponding increasing axial forces were measured.

  • This paper proposes an efficient feature vector processing technique to guard the Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) system against a variety of noises. In the proposed approach, emotional feature vectors are extracted from speech processed by comb filtering. Then, these extracts are used in a robust model construction based on feature vector classification. We modify conventional comb filtering by using speech presence probability to minimize drawbacks due to incorrect pitch estimation under background noise conditions. The modified comb filtering can correctly enhance the harmonics, which is an important factor used in SER. Feature vector classification technique categorizes feature vectors into either discriminative vectors or non-discriminative vectors based on a log-likelihood criterion. This method can successfully select the discriminative vectors while preserving correct emotional characteristics. Thus, robust emotion models can be constructed by only using such discriminative vectors. On SER experiment using an emotional speech corpus contaminated by various noises, our approach exhibited superior performance to the baseline system.

  • Purpose: To solve the decay phenomenon of Hanfu apples that occurs during storage and obtain the best environmental parameters for preserving Hanfu apples using Fluent. Methods: Preservation storage was designed by analyzing the characteristics of Hanfu-apple storage and the natural environment in northeast China. The boundary conditions and simulation of a preservation model were established. Results: Compared with the initial values, the hardness decreased by $1.95kg/cm^2$, the sugar-acid ratio decreased by 20.43, and weight-loss rate was 3.98%. Conclusion: The results for the temperature field and velocity field of the empty storage were analyzed using Fluent. Hanfu apples can maintain good quality during the period of storage, according to our analysis of the Hanfu-apple hardness, weight loss, and change in the sugar-acid ratio during the 90-day preservation period.

  • Fermented fish (jeotkal) has been used as a method of preserving perishable fish and marine products. Recently, however, high salted jeotkal (20% and more) has avoided from consumer by reasons of organoleptic quality (high salinity), health value (degenerative chronic disease), and hygienic safety. Among these jeotkals, meanwhile, sikhae (lactic acid fermented fishes) has been traditionally favored in the eastern coastal area of Korea, which contain below 10% of salt content with acidic range (pH4∼5). 본 논문에서는 촬영 환경이 어두울 때, Resolution을 Preserving하는 Pixel Pitch가 큰 촬상 소자와 Motion Blur를 억제하는 Exposure Time이 긴 촬상 소자의 조합을 신호처리로 구현하여, 신호의 Power를 향상시켜 Dynamic Range를 키우고 Noise의 Boost-up을 억제하여 SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio)을 향상시키는 방식으로, 촬상 장치의 감도를 향상시켜 화질을 개선하는 방법을 제안한다.

  • Preserving reservoir safety has recognized to be important for the public where a vast majority of dams are located upstream of greatly populated cities and industrialized areas. Buckling, floatation and cavitation have caused failure in the spillway gates and conveyance features during past catastrophic events; showed their vulnerability and need for regular inspection along with reviewing design calculations to ensure the spillway meet current design standards. This paper investigates the hydraulic and structural consideration of dam's spillway by evaluating the data of Karkheh Dam's. Discharge capacity, flood routings and cavitation damage risk were main features for hydraulic considerations where hydrostatic and hydrodynamic forces and stability conditions were considered in structural considerations.

  • Preserving intact genetic material and delivering it to the next generation are the most significant tasks of living organisms. The integrity of DNA sequences is under constant threat from endogenous and exogenous factors. The accumulation of damaged or incompletely-repaired DNA can cause serious problems in cells, including cell death or cancer development. Various DNA damage detection systems and repair mechanisms have evolved at the cellular level. Although the mechanisms of these responses have been extensively studied, the global RNA expression profiles associated with genomic instability are not well-known. To detect global gene expression changes under different DNA damage and hypoxic conditions, we performed RNA-seq after treating human cervical cancer cells with ionizing radiation (IR), hydroxyurea, mitomycin C (MMC), or 1% O2 (hypoxia). Results showed that the expression of 184-1037 genes was altered by each stimulus. We found that the expression of 51 genes changed under IR, MMC, and hypoxia. These findings revealed damage-specific genes that varied differently according to each stimulus and common genes that are universally altered in genetic instability.

  • End-stage ankle arthritis is a debilitating condition that causes functional limitations and consequently a poor quality of life. Total ankle replacement arthroplasty is a good alternative to arthrodesis for preserving the ankle's range of motion. However, many complications can occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and with poor soft tissue and bone conditions. A 61-year-old female experienced spacer subluxation after surgery, which was not reduced by medial soft tissue release and spacer change. Buttress plating was found to be a good treatment option to prevent spacer subluxation and can be considered in patients with rheumatoid arthritis with bone erosion and soft tissue damage.

  • Preserving dignity is a significant concern for individuals approaching the end of their lives, as they face an increasing number of conditions that can potentially compromise their dignity. This article discusses dignity therapy as one intervention method aimed at enhancing the psychological and spiritual well-being of patients with terminal illnesses. Dignity therapy is an empirically supported therapeutic intervention that interviews patients with nine questions about what is important to them and what they want to remember, culminating in the production of a document based on these conversations. This intervention serves as a valuable tool and framework, enabling clinical professionals to reflect on dignity. It also provides clinicians with a medium to connect with patients on a deeply human level.
