  • A distributed video-on-demand (VoD) system is one where collection of video data is located at dispersed sites across a computer network. In a single site environment, a local video server retrieves video data from its local storage device. However, in the setting of a distributed VoD system, when a customer requests a movie from the local server, the server may need to interact with other servers located across the network. In this paper, we present three types of presentation plans that a local server must construct in order to satisfy the customer request. Informally speaking, a presentation plan is a temporally synchronized detailed sequence of steps that the local server must perform for presenting the requested movie to the customer. This involves obtaining commitments from other video servers, obtaining commitments from the network service provider, as well as making commitments of local resources, within the limitations of available bandwidth, available buffer, and customer data consumption rates. Furthermore, for evaluating the goodness of a presentation plan, we introduce two measures of optimality for presentation plans: minimizing wait time for a customer, and minimizing access bandwidth is used. We develop algorithms to compute optimal presentation plans for all three types, and carry out extensive experiments to compare their performance. We have also mathematically proved certain results for the presentation plans that had previously been verified experimentally in the literature.

  • In this study, we propose a 3D virtual reality based presentation training system to help implement the virtual presentation environment, such as the real world, to present it confidently in the real world. The proposed system provided a realistic and highly engaging presentation and interview environment by analyzing the speakers' voice and behavior in real time to be reflected in the audience of the virtual space. Using HMD and VR Controller that become 6DOF Tracking, the presenter can change the timing and interaction of the virtual space using Kinect, and the virtual space can be changed to various settings set by the user. The presenter will look at presentation files and scripts displayed in separate views within the virtual space to understand the content and master the presentation.

  • For playing a multimedia presentation in a Internet, the case that the presentation QoS(Quality of Services) at a destination nay be different from the QoS of multimedia data at the source occurs frequently. In this case, the process of trancoding the multimedia data at the source Into the multimedia data satisfying the QoS at the destination should be requited. In addition, even the presentation description having the homogeneous QoS at both sides may have different transcoding paths due to the limitation of display terminals or network bandwidth. That is, for a multimedia description, it is required to regenerate a proper transcoding path whenever the displaying terminals or the network environment gets decided. And the delay time required to go through the transcoding path may affect the playability of the give presentation. Therefore it should be checked whether the presentation requiring a transcoding process is able to be played in a real time. In this paper, the algorithm for generating all the possible transcoding paths for a given multimedia description under a fixed set of transcoders and the network environment is proposed. The algorithm adopts the concept of QoS transition diagram to Prevent from a trancoding Path being cycled by the repetition of a cyclic Path which generates the same QoS of multimedia data as its input QoS. By eliminating all the cyclic Paths, the algorithm can guarantee the termination of the process. And for the playability check, a method of computing the transcoding time and the delay lime between logical data units are proposed. Finally all the proposed methods were implemented in the stream engine, called TransCore and the presentation-authoring tool, called VIP, we had developed. And the test results with sample scenarios were presented at the last.

  • In this study, the new model of presentation remote controller in which has improved the conventional function and deteceted the level of human's tension on a real time basis is suggested and tested. Existing presentation remote controller was just used turning the pages. But new model controls presentation and check tension level on real time using the smart phone's bluetooth interface. The proposed system is comprised with the PPG (Photo-Plethysmo-Graphy) sensor, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules. The configured system is to process (within 150 ms) the pulse signals of the presenter and stored the data. As a result, it can check and make up for the week presentation part and used as sources for improving self-confidence. This is the result obtained from the process of capstone design irregular course for 20 weeks of a graduate-to-be in four-year college.

  • In this presentation, study of the energetic astronomical phenomena, active galactic nucleus (AGN) and gravitational wave (GW) source, with time-series observation will be reported. They emit large amounts of energy and play an important role in the history of the Universe. First, intra-night variability of AGNs is studied using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). Second topic is photometric reverberation mapping which is applied for 11 AGNs with medium-bands and Lee Sang Gak Telescope. Last, three gravitational wave events were followed-up by various optical telescopes. Each topic will be specifically addressed in the presentation.

  • Delay in seeking treatment for breast cancer is a barrier to the early diagnosis and management of the disease, resulting in a poorer prognosis. We here estimated the prevalence of delayed presentation for breast cancer and identified possible influential sociodemographic factors in a cross-sectional study of 250 patients diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinic in Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Data were collected by face-to-face interview using a structured questionnaire and from medical records. We examined associations between delayed presentation (presenting to a physician more than 3 months after self-discovery of a symptom) and sociodemographic characteristics, practice of breast self examination (BSE), history of benign breast disease, family history of breast cancer and type of symptom, symptom disclosure and advice from others to seek treatment using multiple logistic regression. Time from self-discovery of symptom to presentation ranged from tghe same day to 5 years. Prevalence of delayed presentation was 33.1% (95%CI: 27.4, 39.3). A significantly higher proportion of delayers presented with late stages (stage III/IV) (58.3% vs. 26.9%, p<0.001). Divorced or widowed women (OR: 2.23, 95% CI: 1.11, 4.47) had a higher risk of delayed presentation than married women and women who never performed breast self examination were more likely to delay presentation compared to those who regularly performed BSE (OR: 2.74, 95% CI: 1.33, 5.64). Our findings indicate that delayed presentation for breast cancer symptoms among Malaysian women is high and that marital status and breast self examination play major roles in treatment-seeking for breast cancer symptoms.

  • Background: The delayed diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) requires complex treatment and sometimes progresses to hip osteoarthritis. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the risk factors and screening time for DDH in preterm infants. Methods: A total of 155 preterm infants with a gestational age <32 weeks screened for DDH with ultrasonography were enrolled in this retrospective chart review. Results: The incidence of DDH was 6.45% (10 of 155). Gestational age, birth weight, sex ratio, and breech presentation did not differ significantly between infants treated for DDH (n=10) and nontreated infants (n=145) (gestational age, 29.2±1.4 weeks vs. 29.6±2.0 weeks, P=0.583; birth weight, 1,240±237 g vs. 1,295±335 g, P=0.607; female sex, 7 of 10 (70.0%) vs. 77 of 145 (53.1%), P=0.346; and breech presentation, 5 of 10 (50.0%) vs. 43 of 145 (29.7%), P=0.286, respectively). Performing the first ultrasonography earlier than 38 weeks of postmenstrual age (PMA) increased the risk of an abnormal finding by 3.76 times compared to performing it at ≥38 weeks of PMA. These abnormal findings on ultrasonography resolved spontaneously. Breech presentation increased the risk of minor abnormal findings on the first ultrasonography by 3.11 times versus nonbreech presentation and resolved spontaneously. DDH in preterm infants did not occur predominantly on the left side or in infants born with breech presentation. Conclusion: Performing ultrasonography screening earlier than 38 weeks of PMA caused unnecessary subsequent ultrasonography and overtreatment. Breech presentation was not a risk factor for DDH in preterm infants. However, breech presentation could increase the risk of minor abnormal findings at the 1st ultrasonography compared to nonbreech presentation, which resolved spontaneously. The etiology and risk factors for DDH in preterm infants are somewhat different from those for DDH in term infants.

  • Menu-driven interfaces are frequently employed for user -system interfaces on many electronic products. Due to the space and budget constraint, a single or multi-line display is used to show menu items. Single or Multi-line display present 8 .approx. 21 characters on an LCD screen and users select items using a series of button pushes. Multi-line displays are different from the single-line ones in the following aspects. First, they can present multiple menu items at the same time. Second, they can present menu items in a various way, for example, same-depth presentation, sub-depth presentation, previous selection, etc. In this study, a human factors experiment is being conducted to examine the effects of three independent variables on the design of a multi-line display. Factors investigated include menu structure, number of lines on the display, item presentation methodl. Usability of the multi-line display is being measured quantitatively in terms of four different aspects: task completion time, accuracy, inefficiency, user preference. A set of design guidelines will be drawn from this study which can be applied to usef-system interfaces of a various types of consumer products.
