EINOx scaling for $H_2/CO$ non-premixed turbulent jet flame was conducted. NOx concentration and flame length were measured simultaneously with varying flow conditions. Flame length increases with Reynolds number which means the flames in buoyancy-momentum transition region. We assessed the previous Chen & Driscoll's scaling with present results. However, the scaling cannot satisfy the present results. We proposed new scaling which is addressed the simplified flame residence time. The new scaling satisfies the results of $H_2/CO$ syngas flame as well as pure hydrogen flames.

It has been reported that the interacting multiple jet flames of propane fuel are not extinguished even at the choking velocity at the nozzle exit if eight small nozzles are arranged along the imaginary circle of $40{\sim}72$ times the diameter of single nozzle. In this research, experiments were conducted to know the NO and CO emission characteristics of the interacting flames. Measurements along the centerline of the flame revealed that decrease in CO concentration was followed by the NO decrease and $O_2$ increase. It was found that interacting flame emitted less NO than that of similar area single jet flame. Also, NO emission of partially premixed interacting flame was decreased up to $17\%$ of that of non-premixed multiple jet flame. Though the mechanism of the NO reduction was not clear from this experiment, it's been shown that partially premixed multiple jet flames could be used to achieve clean and highly stable combustion.

A method is developed to include the effect of volume expansion in the description of the flame dynamics using G-equation. Line volume-source is used to represent the effect of the exothermic process of combustion with source strength assigned by the density difference between the burned and the unburned region. The present model provides good agreement with the experimental results. Including volume expansion, the flow field is adjusted to accommodate the increased volume flow rate which crossing the flame front and the result predicts the same behavior of measured velocity field qualitatively. The effect of increasing volume expansion does not change the initial growth rate of flame area but increase the residence time. Consequently this effect increases the maximum area of flame front. The flame propagation in varying flow field due to volume expansion provides a promising way to represent the wrinkled turbulent premixed flames in a numerically efficient manner.
An investigation into the influence of ultrasonic standing wave on the structural behavior of propane/air premixed flame has been made to get a clue to the combustion reaction acceleration and combustion instability. Visualization technique utilizing the Schlieren photography was employed for the observation of structural variation of the flame reaction zone. Evolutionary characteristics of the flame front were caught by the high-speed Schlieren image, through which local flame velocity of the moving front were analyzed in detail.

The structure of premixed turbulent flames in a constant-volume vessel was investigated using a microprobe method. The flame potential signal having one to eight peaks was detected in the case of turbulent flames, each of them being regarded as a flamelet existing in the flame zone. Based on this consideration, the flame propagation speed, the thickness of the flame zone, the number of flamelets and the separation distance between adjacent flamelets in the flame zone were measured. The experimental resuits of this work suggest the existence of "reactant islands" behind the flame front when the turbulence was intensified to some extent. The critical(lowest) ratio of turbulence intensity to the laminar burning velocity being found to be about 0.7 for the formation of reactant islands in this experiment.
OH radical concentration have been measured in a methane-air partially premixed flames using PLIF. Excitation lines were selected $Q_{1}(6)$ branch, (1,0) band. The system is consisted of Nd:YAG laser, dye laser and frequency doubler to make pump beam for OH radical. On the direct photographs, flame height increases as fuel flow rate and equivalence ratio increase. And on the PLIF images, OH radical is distributed from premixed flame front to nonpremixed flame front through the flame structure with all equivalence ratio. OH overall concentrations increase with equivalence ratio. At the stoichiometric equivalence ratio, the peak of OH radical concentration exists strongly near the inner cone. As equivalence ratio is changed to richer, OH radical distribution goes thinly and the peak is increased as longitudinal direction. As the flow goes to the downstream, OH radical concentration decreases and broadens, because OH radical reacts with another species after OH formation at the initial oxidization. This phenomenon resembles radial distribution. At the l00cc fuel flowrate, the radial peak of OH radical exists from x/R=l.0 to 1.5.

A comprehensive experimental and numerical study has been conducted to understand the influence of $CH_{3}Cl$ addition on $CH_4/O_2/N_2$ premixed flames under the oxygen enrichment. The laminar flame speeds of $CH_4/CH_{3}Cl/O_2/N_2$ premixed flames at room temperature and atmospheric pressure are experimentally measured using Bunsen nozzle flame technique, varying the amount of $CH_{3}Cl$ in the fuel, the equivalence ratio of the unburned mixture, and the level of the oxygen enrichment. The flame speeds predicted by a detailed chemical kinetic mechanism employed are found to be in excellent agreement with those deduced from experiments. Even though the molar amount of $CH_{3}Cl$ in a methane flame is increased, temperature at the postflame is not significantly varied, but the calculated heat release rate and emission index of NO are largely decreased for the oxygen enhanced flame. The function of $CH_{3}Cl$ as inhibitor on hydrocarbon flames becomes weakened as the level of the oxygen enrichment is increased from 0.21 to 0.5.
OH radical and NOx have been measured in a methane-air partially premixed flame using PLIF technique to define preheated air combustion characteristics. The temperature of mixture is determined by 300K, 400K, 600K and 800K below the auto-ignition temperature respectively. Flame height increases as equivalence ratio increased. As initial enthalpy is supplied, the radius of flame was increased and much amount of yellow flame in rich equivalence ratio was observed. This is due to the faster burning velocity. Also initial oxidization begins earlier as the initial temperature of mixture increased. It means that height of premixed flame front decreased. This phenomenon can be observed OH PLIF image. The qualitative analysis of OH concentration in the PLIF image shows that overall OH concentration increases with equivalence ratio and the initial temperature of mixture increased. At the preheating temperature goes up, axial gradient of OH concentration is less steep than that of lower temperature condition. This may identify that combustion reacts continuously, so preheated air combustion can evade the local heating and make high temperature indiscriminately in the overall reaction zone.
This study has numerically modelled the combustion processes of the turbulent swirling premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner (LSB). In these turbulent swirling premixed flames, the four tangentially- injected air jets induce the turbulent swirling flow which plays the crucial role to stabilize the turbulent lifted flame. In the present approach, the turbulence-chemistry interaction is represented by the level-set based flame let model. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional computations are made for the various swirl numbers and nozzle length. In terms of the centerline velocity profiles and flame liftoff heights, numerical results are compared with experimental data The three-dimensional approach yields the much better conformity with agreements with measurements without any analytic assumptions on the inlet swirl profiles, compared to the two-dimensional approach. Numerical clearly results indicate that the present level-set based flamelet approach has realistically simulated the structure and stabilization mechanism of the turbulent swirling stoichiometric and lean-premixed lifted flames in the low-swirl burner.
We measured emission indices for $NO_x$, CO, temperature and radical characteristics for partially premixied flames formed by suction & blow fans air condition. At sufficiently high levels of partial premixing a double flame structure consisting of a rich premixed inner flame and outer diffusion flame was established similar to that previously observed in premixed flames. $NO_x$, Temperature, CO values were experimented with approximately constant air flow rate and decreasing equivalence ratios. The reduction in $NO_x$ and temperature at suction condition as compared with that for blow condition was approximately 20%, but on the contrary, CO emission was increased. In addition, We measured temperature distributions and found that temperature increased continuously with increasing partial premixing. We also estimated CH, $C_2$ radical intensity. CH and $C_2$ radicals provide evidence that, for the present measurement, CH and $C_2$ radicals intensity was associsated with their premixed component. And we observed stronger $C_2$, CH radicals intensity at suction conditions than blow conditions.
