This research is the first known to introduce and analyze food-related content among the records left by George Clayton Foulk (1856-1893), a naval attache dispatched as part of a U.S. delegation to Korea during the Joseon dynasty in the 19th century. Sketches and memos by Foulk provide important clues in understanding the food culture during the late Joseon dynasty. By analyzing the types of foods, table composition, and intervals between serving the nine rounds of food from the rural government office, which Foulk ate during his local trip, he was able to confirm that there was a starter ('preliminary table' or 'hors d'œuvre') before the main table and that it was served before the main dish.

The work reported in this paper identifies the thermal-hydraulic phenomena that are expected to occur during a number of key transients in SMART(System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) which is under development at KAERI. The result of this effort is based on the current design concept of SMART integral reactor. Although the design is still evolving, the preliminary phenomena Identification and Ranking Table(PIRT) has been developed based on the experts' knowledge and experience. The preliminary PIRT has been developed by consensus of KAERI expert panelists and AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process). Preliminary PIRT developed in this paper is intended to be used to identify and integrate development areas of further experimental tests needed, thermal hydraulic models and correlations and code improvements for the safety analysis of the SMART.

Effectiveness of corrective machining algorithm is verified experimentally in this paper by performing corrective lapping work to single side and double sides hydrostatic tables. Lapping is applied as machining method. Machining information is calculated from measured motion errors by applying the algorithm, without information on rail profile. It is possible to acquire 0.13pm of linear motion error, 1.40arcsec of angular motion error in the case of single side table, and 0.07pm of linear motion error, 1.42arcsec of angular motion error in the case of double sides table. The experiment is performed by the unskilled person after he experienced a little of preliminary machining. Experimental results show that corrective machining algorithm is very effective, and anyone can improve the accuracy of hydrostatic table by using the algorithm.

While there exists a relatively large body of technical information for the engineered design of wood-frame buildings to resist seismic ground motions, the quantitative assessment of seismic resistance of conventional houses built by prescriptive requirements is less well understood. Forintek Canada Corp., in collaboration with other research and industry partners, has embarked on a research project to address this topic. This paper will report on the seismic shake table tests of a full-scale wood-frame building. The two-story specimen, $6m{\times}6m$ in plan, was built on the seismic shake table at Tongji University in Shanghai, China, according to Part 9 of the 1995 National Building Code of Canada and shaken uni-directionally in each of the two principal directions. Three different seismic table motions were applied at increasing peak ground motion amplitudes up to 0.40 and 0.50 g. The specimen was repaired after the above sets of seismic table motions, and successive runs were conducted for increased door openings. Measurements included specimen accelerations, displacements and anchorage forces. Static stiffness of the specimen was measured at low force levels, and natural frequencies were measured after each seismic loading stage by applying low-level random excitation. The results presented consist of the capacity spectra of the shake table tests, changes in specimen stiffness and natural frequencies with increasing seismic loading. These results and those from other recent shake table tests elsewhere will be compared with simplified engineering calculations based on codified values of strength, and on that basis preliminary conclusions will be drawn on the adequacy of the current code provisions and design guides in Canada and the USA for conventional wood-frame construction.
There are some ambiguities of the information on the fuel economy provided to the consumers because the standard and the detailed regulations for the fuel economy of the two-wheeled vehicle have not been established in Korea. Since Korea has been a signatory of World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations since 1998, it is possible to remove the ambiguities by adopting the WMTC (Worldwide-harmonized Motorcycle Test Cycle) measurement method for the fuel economy of the two-wheel vehicle. As a preliminary study on the WMTC mode fuel economy, road loads measured by coast down method and table method were compared for the two types of two-wheeled motorcycles on sales in domestic market. In the same model, it was confirmed that the deviation of WMTC mode fuel efficiency was below -5% between products. On the other hand, the difference of WMTC fuel economy exceeded 5% between the coast down method and table method.

Effectiveness of a corrective machining algorithm, which can construct the proper machining information to improve motion errors utilizing measured motion errors, is verified experimentally in this paper, Corrective machining process is practically applied to single and double side hydrostatic bearing tables. Lapping process is applied as a machining method. The machining information is obtained from the measured motion errors by applying the algorithm, without any information on the rail profile. In the case of the single-side table, after 3 times of corrective remachining, linear and angular motion errors are improved up to 0.13 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.40 arcsec from initial error of 1.04 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 22.71 arcsec, respectively. In the case of the double-side table, linear and angular motion error are improved up to 0.07 /$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 1.42 arcsec from the initial error of 0.32 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 4.14 arcsec. The practical machining process is performed by an unskilled person after he received a preliminary training in machining. Experimental results show that the corrective machining algorithm is very effective and easy to use to improve the accuracy of hydrostatic tables.

This study presents an efficient strategy for selecting portfolio by evaluating growth potential of a corporation based on dividend. Through preliminary experiments, we extract 4 categories to sort out prospective stocks and develop a scoring table including criteria and formulas used to calculate scores for each category. In order to show the effectiveness of the portfolio selected by scoring table, we constructed 3 portfolios for every 4 years (2007-2010) out of 927 listed companies in KRX and proved that our portfolios are superior to market portfolio in terms of rate of return.
The importance of enteric coating technique among the pharmaceutical firms has recently risen very significantly. This study of enteric coating bases was made in order to determine the most suitable bases and dusting powders. Materials and equipment used in this experiment are shown in table 1 and kinds of enteric coating bases and their formulas are shown in table 2. The evaluation of the suitability for enteric coating bases and dusting powder was made by disintergration test after measuring the thickness of the enteric coated layer as shown in the tables 4 and 5. Based on the results of this study, the base D(shellac 20 Gm, anhydrous lanoline 5 Gm, 96% alcohol 75 ml) and the base E (shellac 10 Gm, cetyl alcohol 10 Gm. acetone 80 ml) are selected among the 8 kinds of bases studied in a preliminary test and it was found that Mg-stearate and CA-stearate were in most suitable dusting powders among the 6 kinds studied for the bases D and E. Further study on base D and E was carried out by varying the proportions of the materials which were the original constituents of bases D and E. According to the result of this further study shown in table 6, the shellac 15 Gm cetyl alcohol 5 Gm Acetone 80 ml of base E is recommended as the most suitable dusting powder.
Recently, many researchers are interested in using join queries to correlate sensor readings stored in different regions. In the conventional algorithm, the preliminary join coordinator collects the synopsis from sensor nodes and determines a set of sensor readings that are required for processing the join query. Then, the base station collects only a part of sensor readings instead of whole readings and performs the final join process. However, it has a problem that incurs communication overhead for processing the preliminary join. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient in-network join scheme that solves such a problem. The proposed scheme determines a preliminary join coordinator located to minimize the communication cost for the preliminary join. The coordinator prunes data that do not contribute to the join result and performs the compression of sensor readings in the early stage of the join processing. Therefore, the base station just collects a part of compressed sensor readings with the decompression table and determines the join result from them. In the result, the proposed scheme reduces communication costs for the preliminary join processing and prolongs the network lifetime.
