Development and Application of a Nursing Assessment Tool for Senior Center Nurses (노인복지관 간호사를 위한 간호사정조사도구 개발 및 적용)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a nursing assessment tool for senior center nurses, and to test its feasibility and content validity. Methods: The study utilized a psychometric test design. Preliminary items were developed based on geriatric health needs and Gordon's 11 domains of functioning health. Initially, the tool was evaluated for content validity and feasibility. Then, it was administered among 195 older adults in a senior center by a gerontological nurse practitioner. Data were analyzed to describe the nursing problems of the senior center older adults. Results: The final version of the nursing assessment tool consisted of 27 items. The internal consistency, measured with the Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, was .74. The result of the assessment showed that senior center older adults had high nursing needs in the area of management of chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, and lipids), dental care, community relations, safety, elder abuse, health behaviors (such as drinking), mental health (depression, suicide, and cognitive function), and health consultations. Conclusion: The new tool was feasible for use with senior center participants, and it was evaluated as having high content validity by senior center nurses.

The Safety Assessment of Small WIG Craft in the 20-Passenger Class (20인승급 소형 위그선의 안전성 평가)

  • WIG crafts are a high speed vessel with features of dynamic supported craft. These crafts, which are predominantly of light weight and operate any substantially greater speeds than conventional craft such as bulk carrier, tanker, container ship, etc., could not be accommodated under traditional maritime safety instruments. It means that there is the need for risk and safety levels to be assessed on a holistic basis, recognizing that high levels of operator training, comprehensive and thoroughly implemented procedures, high levels of automation and sophisticated software can all make significant contributions to risk reduction. To response this requirement, the Interim Guideline for WIG craft(MSC/Circ.1054) were developed in the view of the configuration of WIG craft, which fall between the maritime and aviation regulatory regimes. This paper reviews a safety assessment process and methodology to be used in the design phase of a new ship. The process and methodology is based on the risk-based approach and is applied to safety assessment in concept development phase of small WIG craft in the 20-person class.

Numerical Verification of the Proposed Design Procedure of MR Damper for Seismic Response Control of Building Structure (건축 구조물의 지진응답 제어를 위해 제안된 MR감쇠기 설계 절차의 수치적 검증)

  • In our previous study, we have developed a preliminary design procedure of MR dampers for controlling seismic response of building structures. In this paper, the effectiveness the proposed method is verified through the numerical analysis of the structures with various period and story number, and twenty earthquake loads are used for statistical assessment. The comparison between the proposed method and simplified sequential search algorithm indicates that the capacity, number and the placement of the MR damper which can achieve the given performance objective are reasonably determined using the proposed design procedure.

Impact of Social Consumption Crisis Strategy on Distribution Marketplaces' Relationships

  • Purpose: This paper reviews the attitudes of consumers related to the consumption crisis response strategy (i.e., defensive vs. receptive) that companies implement during crises. Research design, data, and methodology: We discuss the interaction between the crisis response strategy and the consumption crisis type (i.e., corporate ability vs. corporate social responsibility). We used SAS ver. 9.4 software to analyze the results. We applied a 2 × 2 intergroup experimental design to our sample of subjects, who were undergraduate and graduate students at a university in Seoul, South Korea. The three experimental variables considered were the entity's risk response strategy, the crisis type, and public relations strategy. The experiments were conducted by presenting a hypothetical scenario to eight groups. Prior to this experiment, five preliminary surveys were conducted to determine the three variables just mentioned. Preliminary surveys were conducted on the basis of these criteria. For eight selected product lines, 320 undergraduates were required to enter the product lines that are frequently used in the assessment center up to the fourth priority. Results: Analysis of variance revealed that experiments related to crisis response strategy, type of enterprise crisis, and type of public relations message were successful. Conclusions: Our results verify the impact of different types of social initiatives on distribution marketplaces.

Assessment of Drainage Discharge and Nitrate-Nitrogen Loads According to Subsurface Drainage Design in Corn Cultivated Agricultural Land in Illinois, USA (미국 일리노이주 옥수수 재배 농경지 내 암거배수 시설 설계에 따른 배수량 및 질산성질소 배출 평가)

  • Subsurface drainage improves crop productivity in poorly drained soils but may also substantially contribute impairment of surface water quality due to excess leaching losses of nutrients like Nitrate-Nitrogen (NO3-N). This research presents preliminary findings from a 3-years tile depth and spacing study in Illinois state that includes three drain spacings implemented in 2 plots. We found that the plot with the narrower subsurface drainage (Case 1) exported more drainage water compared to the plot with the narrower subsurface drainage system (Case 2). The total drainage water from Case 1 plot showed 57% more compared to Case 2 plot. Whereas we observed that the plot with narrower drain spacing (Case 1) exported only 9% more NO3-N leaching losses compared to the wider plot (Case 2). The average corn yield was observed higher in plot Case 1 compared to Case 2. Especially, we observed about 7% higher corn yield in plot Case 1 compared to Case 2 plot in the relatively dried year (2022). The preliminary findings for this study suggest that subsurface drainage systems can be optimized to reduce nutrient losses while improving the crop productivity.

  • This paper deals with the structural assessment of metallic and non-metallic stiffened/monocoque plated marine structures under a lateral pressure load to identify appropriate combination of material and section configuration, especially at the preliminary marine structural design stage. A generic rectangular plated structure is exemplified from the metallic superstructure of a marine vessel and its structural topology is varied for the structural assessment. In total 13 different structural topologies are proposed and assessed using appropriate elastic solutions in conjunction with a set of stress and deflection limits obtained from practice. The geometry dimensions and weights of the structural topologies are calculated, and subsequently, the costs of the materials used in the structural topologies are reviewed to discuss the cost-effectiveness of the materials. Finally, conclusions are made with the aim of suggesting suitable structural topology for the marine structural member considered in this paper.

  • Since 1977, KAERI has conducted the fundamental R&D on the permanent disposal of potential HLW repository in Korea. The first ten year project is divided into three short-term phase studies. The first phase study which shall be finished in March of 2000, has the prime target to develop the disposal concept of HLW. Throughout this study the preliminary and generic disposal repository system has been introduced. The potential repository is proposed to be emplaced into crystalline rocks which is the most common rock types in Korea. The proposed depth of the repository is between 300 to 700 meter. The numerical code, MASCOT-K was developed to asserts the long term safety of the proposed repository concept. Based on this conceptual design preliminary safely assessment was performed. Results show that for the given disposal system the potential radioactive release it well below the regulatory limit.

  • In this paper we present a safety plan to be applied to the development of the TCS(Train Control System). The safety plan that can be applied to the life cycle of a system, from the conceptual design to the dismantlement, shows the whole process of the paper work in detail through the establishment of a goal, analysis and assessment, the verification. In this paper we study about the making a plan, the preliminary hazard analysis, the hazard identification and analysis to guarantee the safety of the TCS. The process far the verification of the system safety is divided into several steps based on the target system and the approaching method. The guarantee of the system safety and the improvement of the system reliability is fellowed by the recommendation of the international standards.

Safety Assessment of Ship Navigation at Yeocheon Harbor for 320,000DWT VLCC (여천항에서의 32만 DWT급 원유 운반선의 선박운항 안전성 평가)

  • It is well known that simulation study in the preliminary design stage of harbors or berths is of great use, since it can provide helpful informations to the designer from the view point of ship navigations. In this paper, a brief review is made in the safety assessment of ship navigation for a 320,000 DWT VLCC entering Yecocheon harbor area, which is carried out by shiphandling simulator system. The geographic data base for the harbor as well as the mathematical models of the ship and environmental effects are designed and developed. Based in the on-site inspections and interviews with pilots in Yeocheon area, basic maneuvering plans and consistence with real operation conditions. Berthing and deberthing maneuvering simulations as well as approaching and departing simulations are carried out by 3 experienced navigators according to the maneuvering plans and environmental scenarios. The simulation results are analysed in various ways to evaluate the quantitative and qualitative maneuvering difficulties and thereby to assess the safety of ship navigation in that area.

Feasibility Assessment of Small Hydro Power Plants Using Diversion Weirs for Agricultural Purpose (농업용 보를 이용한 소수력발전소의 타당성 분석)

  • Feasibility assessment for small hydropower plants using diversion weirs located in stream for agricultural purpose has been studied. The model, which can predict flow duration characteristic of stream, was developed to analyze the inflow caused from rainfall. And another model to predict hydrologic performance for small hydropower plants is established. Preliminary survey was performed identifying several candidate sites, and two sites were selected finally for actual site reconnaissance. During the course of site survey, generating capacity, construction and equipment cost, and payback through life time of each sites were calculated for economical feasibility analysis. The results of this study have estimated that the small hydropower plants using diversion weirs for agricultural purpose may offer better opportunities in future with increasing fuel cost and nation's energy policy.
