In search and rescue mission the leeway formula based on the field experiments are utilized for the estimation of wind effect on distressed targets. This paper summarized the leeway formula from the available references. In the summary the environmental data collection method and experimental conditions are described along with the formula. Also the formula currently used in CASP of the U.S. Coast Gurard and CANSARP of the Canadian Coast Guard are discussed.

This study selected three different specified concrete strength types of mixture which were applied to domestic seawater concrete structure and measured compressive strength and chloride diffusion coefficient and composed the formula of prediction model of chloride diffusion coefficient in order to provide the useful data for concrete mix decision of seawater structures. As a result, the formula of prediction model of chloride diffusion coefficient which set W/C and compressive strength as parameters and performed multiplex regression analysis which was based on the mathematical theory was confirmed more reliable than the formula of prediction which was composed existing water-cement ratio function.
In the fabrication of curved multi-display glass for automotive use, the surface roughness of the mold is a critical quality factor. However, the difficulty in detecting micro-cutting signals in a micro-machining environment and the absence of a standardized model for predicting micro-cutting forces make it challenging to intuitively infer the correlation between cutting variables and actual surface roughness under machining conditions. Consequently, current practices heavily rely on machining condition optimization through the utilization of cutting models and experimental research for force prediction. To overcome these limitations, this study employs a surface roughness prediction formula instead of a cutting force prediction model and converts the surface roughness prediction formula into experimental data. Additionally, to account for changes in surface roughness during machining runtime, the theory of position variables has been introduced. By leveraging artificial neural network technology, the accuracy of the surface roughness prediction formula model has improved by 98%. Through the application of artificial neural network technology, the surface roughness prediction formula model, with enhanced accuracy, is anticipated to reliably perform the derivation of optimal machining conditions and the prediction of surface roughness in various machining environments at the analytical stage.
In this paper, field measurements in the subway tunnel and adjacent building were performed to predict the pound vibration level induced by urban rapid transit (subway) in Seoul, Korea. From the results of the measurements, the measured ground vibration level induced by subway in Seoul is smaller than the empirical formula of New York, but it is bigger than the empirical formula of Tokyo which has been commonly used in Korea. We suggested the empirical formula for prediction of ground vibration level induced by subway in Seoul considering on the wave propagation path for soils or rocks, respectively.
This paper proposes a HPPS(Hybrid Preference Prediction System) design using the analysis of user profile and of the similarity among users precisely to predict the preference for custom-tailored service. Contrary to the existing NBCFA(Neighborhood Based Collaborative Filtering Algorithm), this paper is designed using these following rules. First, if there is no neighbor's commodity rating value in a preference prediction formula, this formula uses the rating average value for a commodity. Second, this formula reflects the weighting value through the analysis of a user's characteristics. Finally, when the nearest neighbor is selected, we consider the similarity, the commodity rating, and the rating frequency. Therefore, the first and second preference prediction formula made HPPS improve the precision by 97.24%, and the nearest neighbor selection method made HPPS improve the precision by 75%, compared with the existing NBCFA.

Stone column is one of the soft ground improvement method, which enhances ground conditions through ground water draining, settlement reducing and bearing capacity increasing complexly by using crushed stone instead of sand in general vertical drain methods. In recent, general construction material, sand is in short of supply, because of the unbalance of demand and supply. Also, the bearing capacity improving effect of stone column method is needed in many cases so the bearing capacity estimation is considered as important point. Nevertheless, adequate estimation methods to predict bearing capacity of stone column considering stone column and improving ground behavior reciprocally is not yet prepared. To contribute this situation, bearing capacity behavior of stone column were simulated as numerically on various property cases of crushed stone and surrounded ground. Through the numerical analysis of simulation results, bearing capacity behavior prediction formula was suggested. This formula was verified by comparing the prediction result with in situ test.

This study investigates the buckling evaluation of connecting rods used in the diesel engine through finite element analysis. The Rankine formula, which is modified from classical Euler‘s formula, has been widely accepted in automotive industry to evaluate the buckling of connecting rods. Apparently, this formula is most suitable for the straight and idealized rod shape, and over-simplifies the geometric complexity associated with connecting rods. The subspace iteration method in FEA is used to predict the critical buckling stress of a connecting rod with certain slenderness ratio. To create models with various slenderness ratios for shank portion in the rod, the automatic meshing preprocessor was implemented. Results from FEA were verified by the experiments, in which the embedded strain gages measured for the connecting rod running at 4000rpm. The result indicates that the buckling prediction curve through FEA and experiment is effectively different from the curve of classical Rankine formula.

The increase in logistics and the emergence of high speed vehicles are aggravating the noise problem, and disturbing large numbers of people. Therefore, growing attention is being paid to the creation and utilization of a noise map in order to grasp and predict the influence of noise, and to establish a policy that effectively reduces noise. However, so far there has been little progress in developing a predictive formula for railway noise, and a noise prediction program suitable for the domestic environment. Therefore, there is a need for a method to apply the overseas prediction formula to domestic railway vehicles. This study evaluated the prediction method, the result of which is similar to that of a real measurement, using a noise map. It also employed a commercial software program, SoundPlan, to predict noise.

In the early stage of ship design, the rapid prediction of resistance of hull forms is required. Although there are more accurate prediction methods such as model test and CFD analysis, statistical methods are still widely used because of their cost-effectiveness and quickness in producing the results. This study suggests the prediction formula for the residual resistance coefficient (Cr) of the low-speed full ships. The formula was derived from the statistical analysis of model test results in KRISO database. In order to improve prediction accuracy, the local variables of hull forms are defined and used for the regression process. The regression formula for these variables using only principal dimensions of hull forms are also provided.

It is very hard to control the quality of coating work in shipbuilding process, because it is highly affected by several parameters such as space between object and nozzle tip, spray velocity, pressure, tip size, etc.. Even so a coating work in shipbuilding is done by workers' experience and skill as yet. It causes not only an excessive use of paints but also a decrease of productivity. In order to solve this problem, we developed a formula that predicts the film thickness and determined the proper coating pattern. Also we had done a series of experiments to verify the results of this study.
