This study investigated temporal changes in forest physical variables and their effects on thermal comfort and physiological and psychological responses. Environmental factors (air temperature, mean radiant temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity), the predicted mean vote (PMV), and the predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD) visitors were continuously measured between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. We assessed the physiological and psychological responses (heart rate variability, heart rate, oral temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, thermal sensation vote, comfort sensation vote, and subjective feelings) of 30 male university students (average age: 21.7±1.9 years), who closed their eyes and relaxed for 5 minutes every hour. Examination of correlations between environmental factors and physiological responses showed that ① the mean radiant temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity significantly changed with time; ② PMV and PPD also showed significant changes over time, and the thermal sensation vote corresponded with PMV; however, the comfort sensation vote did not correspond with PPD; ③ Among the physiological responses, parasympathetic nerve activity, sympathetic nerve activity, heart rate, and diastolic blood pressure significantly varied with time, with parasympathetic nerve activity having the lowest value and sympathetic nerve activity the highest at the highest air temperature (2:00-4:00 PM); and ④ Air temperature, mean radiant temperature, and wind speed showed a negative correlation with parasympathetic nerve activity and a positive correlation with sympathetic nerve activity. These findings indicate that the relaxation effects of the forest environment depend on what time of day people are exposed to it, and the changes occurring in forest environmental factors over time modulate these effects.

Granite soil has been used traditionally as a school playground surface. Natural turf has also been used in some schools. Recently artificial turf has come into common use instead of granite soil or natural turf. Artificial turf playgrounds are used at 174 schools in Seoul, Korea. More than 3,500 artificial turf fields are installed in the United States. Because of the increase of artificial turf usage, there are many studies about the estimation of artificial turf effects to environment. Compared with artificial turf material effects such as characterization of substances released from material, and recognition of volatility of heavy metal into the surrounding environment - air or the percolating rainwater -, less studies for thermal effects of artificial turf playground have been done. Especially, the corresponding studies in Korea are few. Thus, the purpose of this research is to compare the thermal effects of artificial turf on school playground between natural turf and granite soil. In this study, air temperature and Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) were compared in three scenarios by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model. Additionally, the results were validated through a field measurement. Air temperature decreasing effects by natural turf are greater than those by artificial turf and granite soil at 14:30 on 20th, July 2011. It shows the same decreasing effects at 23:30. However, the difference is less than that of daytime. PMV differences between natural turf and the other two surface covers are large at daytime while those are much less at nighttime. Consequently, air temperature and PMV of artificial turf are the highest among three school playground surface pavements.

This research analyzed biosignals associated with the change of emotion from lighting felt by the occupants and task type under various indoor thermal environments and illuminance, and examined the biosignals' impacts on work. To this end, the indoor thermal environment was constructed on the basis of PMV (predicted mean vote) index value, and various indoor environments were created by changing the brightness of LED stands. In this manner, a variety of indoor environments were constructed, and experiments were carried out. This research evaluates the sensibility response to lighting through a questionnaire survey in the given environment and incorporates different types of error searches. In this way, changes were analyzed by measuring electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiograms (ECG). As a result, all biosignals on the task type showed significant differences from the thermal environment change. When PMV index value was 0.8 (temperature: $25^{\circ}C$, humidity: 50 %), concentration and attention were the most activated. However, the biosignals did not show significant differences from the illuminance change. Concentration on an occupant's work capability was confirmed to be closely related to the thermal environment. As for the subjective emotional response to lighting, the occupants felt comfort as illuminance was lower, while they felt discomfort as illuminance was higher. However, there were no significant differences from the thermal environment change.
The Ministry of Environment established a guide line Indoor Air Quality Management guidelines in Public Facilities in December 2006. As the items of the guideline, $CO_2$ (Carbon dioxide) and PM10 (Particulate matter). Therefore trains and subway need to control air quality. The indoor thermal environment in passenger car is very important for the enhancement of the amenity and health of passengers. Many researchers have studied it not for train but for building. So, in this study, we have performed thermal environment in passenger car (KTX, Mugunghwa, Saemaeul), and verified the relation between the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percent Dissatisfied) from September to October 2007. As a result, the average PMV value for each trains are 0.1, 0.22 for KTX, 0 for Mugunghwa, 0.1 for Saemaeul. So it satisfies the ASHRAE Handbook thermal environmental limit (-0.5 < PMV < +0.5).
In order to evaluate environmental comfort of tractor cabs, temperature, relative humidity and noise within the cab were taken from 31 tractors during plowing and rotovating operations. The temperature and humidity were evaluated with regard to the comfort zone of KS B ISO 14269-2 and PMV of ISO 7730. The noise was evaluated with regard to the permissible sound level of OSHA for daily exposure of 8 hours. The collected data indicated that thermal environment of the cabs was out of the comfort zone, which meant tractor operators worked under uncomfortable thermal conditions. Difference in the thermal comfort by tractor power and maker, and type of works was not found. However, 25% of the studied tractors showed PMV in a range of -0.5 to +0.5, which indicated their operators worked under the comfort criteria. PMV was improved when the cab was air-conditioned. Levels of measured cab noise were lower than the permissible criteria, and 76.7% of the studied tractors had cab noise ranged from 75 to 85 dBA. There was a tendency that high powered tractors, rotovating operations and locally-made tractors had greater cab noise levels. However, their differences were insignificant.
PMV, $CO_2$ and the energy consumption performance were numerically investigated in a large space with air-conditioning systems of four type. The numerical results showed that thermal comforts in the occupied zone are nearly similar in three systems except 3-way wall type system air-conditioner with ventilation system installed 2.2m height from the bottom. In case of 3-way wall type system air-conditioner the energy consumption for cooling loads was reduced about 25.5% compared to other air-conditioning systems. From the viewpoint of IAQ, it was turned out that system air-conditioner with ventilation system became worse about 20% compared to central air-conditioning systems for cooling load. The PMV, $CO_2$ concentration and energy consumption of all systems for heating loads were similar in a large space considered.
The purpose of this study is to apply pressurized plenum under floor air conditioning system to office areas to understand characteristics of indoor thermal environment based on forms of diffusers. For doing this, the author conducted experiment of module measurement, and based on the results, analyzed indoor temperature distribution and velocity distribution based on direction of diffusion by using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD), and estimated the Predicted Mean Vote(PMV) of residents based on forms of diffusers to present the optimal air conditioning of the pressurized plenum under floor air conditioning system in heating. The results of this study are as follows. First, as for forms of diffusers, distributed diffusers rather than conical and grill diffusers were favorable in maintaining $24^{\circ}C$, the established temperature in heating, were active in velocity flowing, and were wide in a radius of diffusion. Second, as for position of pressurizing, the difference between upper and lower temperature was wider in center, lateral, and dispersed pressurizing (in order). As for velocity distribution, the velocity was more increased in lateral, center, and dispersed pressurizing(in order), indicating that dispersed pressurizing maintained uniform thermal environment. Third, as for diffusion direction, mixed direction showed less difference between upper and lower temperature and the difference in velocity between center and lateral part was 0.01m/1, indicating that it maintained uniform thermal environment. Fourth, as for the PMV of residents based on the forms of diffusers, the dispersed type showed(+) values above (0) when applied variably based on the position of diffuser, presenting thermal feeling of "being comfortable" to residents.
For determining thermal comfort properties of work suit in an atomic power plant, three different coverall ensembles (PVE, PET/Rayon, PP Nonwoven) were selected and the resistance to dry and evaporative heat transfer were measured for each ensemble by using a sweating thermal manikin. Also, PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD(Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) indices were predicted according to ISO 7730. As a result, ideal environmental conditions in an atomic power plant were suggested to make workers feel thermally comfortable. In addition, ideal intrinsic insulation values of coverall ensembles as a work suit under the present environmental conditions in the at6omic power plant were provided. The information given in this paper can be used to control environmental conditions in the atomic power plant thermally comfortable and to select a proper work suit for providing thermal comfort to the workers.

This paper performed to investigate on vertical temperature distribution, effective draft temperature (ETD) and PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) in the classroom, which is located YangSan city (Kyungsangnam-Do), Korea, is equipped with ceiling unit. The vertical temperature difference between F.L+10 cm (ankle) and F.L+120 cm (neck) of a measuring point which is adjacent corridor in the classroom showed about $1^{\circ}C$ but of measuring point which is adjacent outdoor expressed up to $4^{\circ}C$, The effective draft temperature (ETD) is -2.3 and -0.52 and 0.67 at near ceiling unit but is 1.2 and 3.3 at far from ceiling unit. The PMV of total classroom showed the range of 'Cold' and 'Slightly Cold.' Therefore, to achieve comfort condition in the classroom is equipped with ceiling unit, the location of ceiling unit and discharge angle and discharge distance from ceiling unit are very important elements.
In this paper, we performed the experimental and numerical study on the thermal comfort(TC) and indoor air quality(IAQ) in the lecture room with a different airflow rate of the ventilation system and heating system for heating season. Through the experimental results, we found out that there was considerably difference of the PMV but there was little difference of $CO_2$ concentration with a different heating system. From a numerical results, the best operating condition was that discharge airflow rate of SAC is 29 CMM and supply airflow rate of the ventilation system is 1,200 CMH from a viewpoint of TC and IAQ.
