This paper considers a linear precoding scheme that achieves near optimal sum rate. While the minimum mean square error (MMSE) precoding provides the better MSE performance at all signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than the zero forcing (ZF) precoding, its sum rate shows superior performance to ZF precoding at low SNR but inferior performance to ZF precoding at high SNR, From this observation, we first propose a near optimal linear precoding scheme in terms of sum rate. The resulting precoding scheme regularizes ZF precoding to maximize the sum rate, resulting in better sum rate performance than both ZF precoding and MMSE precoding at all SNR ranges. To find regularization parameters, we propose a simple algorithm such that locally maximal sum rate is achieved. As a low complexity alternative, we also propose a simple power re-allocation scheme in the conventional regularized channel inversion scheme. Finally, the proposed scheme is tested under the presence of channel estimation error. By simulation, we show that the proposed scheme can maintain the performance gain in the presence of channel estimation error and is robust to the channel estimation error.
This letter proposes an iterative multimode precoding scheme with limited feedback for nonreciprocal MIMO interference channels. Based on analysis of game theory, we model the iterative multimode precoding as a noncooperative game with a finite set of strategies. Numerical results are presented to verify the sum rate performance of the proposed scheme.

In this paper, we consider a precoder design problem for multiuser interference channel. Most of the conventional schemes for precoder design utilize a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as a cost function. However, since the SINR metric of a desired transmitter-receiver pair is a function of precoding vectors of all transmitters in the multiuser interference channel, an analytic closed-form solution is not available for the precoding vector of a desired transmitter that maximizes the SINR metric. To eliminate coupling between the precoding vectors of all transmitters and to find a closed-form solution for the precoding vector of the desired transmitter, we use a signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) instead as a cost function because the SLNR at a transmitter is a function of the precoding vector of the desired transmitter only. In addition, channel estimation errors for undesired links are considered when designing the precoding vector because they are inevitable in a multiuser interference channel. In this case, we propose a design scheme for the precoding vector that is robust to the channel estimation error. In the proposed scheme, the precoding vector is designed to maximize the worst-case SLNR. Through computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional scheme in terms of SLNR, SINR, and sum rate of all users.

In this paper, we propose an simplified successive minimum mean square error ($S^{2}MMSE$) algorithm that can simplify the computational complexity for precoding matrix generation in the successive minimum mean square error (SMMSE) precoding method, which is adopted as a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) precoding technique in the IST (information society technologies)-WINNER (wireless world initiative new radio) project. The original algorithm generates the precoding matrix by calculating all individual precoding vectors with each requiring its own MMSE nulling matrix, over all receive antennas for all users. In contrast, this proposed algorithm first calculates the MMSE nulling matrix for each user, and then calculates all precoding vectors for respective receive antennas of the corresponding user by using the identical MMSE nulling matrix, in which only a simple matrix-vector multiplication is required for each vector. Consequently, it can simplify significantly the computational complexity to generate a precoding matrix for SMMSE precoding.

Multiple antennas can provide huge capacity gains when the transmitter knows the channel state information (CSI). Precoding is a technique that exploits CSI at the transmitter side. In this paper, an adaptive precoding scheme is proposed, called a hybrid multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) precoding (HMP). HMP is a combination of linear and nonlinear precoding. The number of transmit antennas less than or equal to four is as same as the conventional antenna selection scheme. Therefore, the HMP scheme uses more than four transmit antennas. The good channel means that the channels must be selected to maximize the channel capacity among the given channels, and the rest channels are called bad channel. In HMP scheme, we use the nonlinear precoding in the good channels and the linear precoding in the bad channels. The well-known Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) is considered as nonlinear precoding. The system throughput and MSE (minimum square error) are shown for the performance of HMP scheme compared to the conventional schemes which are BD (block diagonalization), antenna selection and THP.
This paper focuses on codebook-based precoding for space-division multiple access/orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (SDMA-OFDMA) systems aiming to guarantee high throughput for their users as well as to mitigate interference to fixed satellite service (FSS). A systematic design of SDMA codebook for subband-based OFDMA is proposed, which forms multiple orthogonal beams with common spatial null in the direction of a victim FSS earth station (ES). The design enables both transmitter and receiver to independently construct identical codebook by sharing only on the direction angle of an FSS ES, which takes fewer overhead bits than Gram-Schmidt process, a general method satisfying our design criterion. A system-level throughput evaluation shows that the proposed precoding provides superior performance over existing spectrum sharing method, that is, subband deactivation. The spectrum sharing analysis shows that the proposed precoding, even with an estimation error of the direction angles of an FSS ES, causes lower interference than existing precoding, knockdown precoding.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive-perturbation-aided opportunistic precoding (APOP) scheme for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. To update a precoding matrix in MIMO systems, the proposed algorithm produces a random perturbation in each time slot. Then the additional adaptive perturbation is also applied, which depends on the reports of achievable data-rates from users. If the prior random perturbation increased the data rate, the adaptive perturbation is set to be the same as the prior random perturbation, otherwise the negative value of the prior random perturbation is applied for adaptive perturbation. Furthermore, to enhance the achievable data rates, the information on the stored precoding matrices in the memory as well as the currently generated precoding matrix is used for scheduling. Simulation results show that compared to conventional opportunistic precoding schemes, higher data rates are achieved by the proposed APOP scheme, especially when there are a relatively small number of users.

In CDMA-based systems, recently, researches on chip-level equalization have been studied in order to improve receiving performance when supporting high-rate data services. In this paper, we consider a chip-level LMMSE (linear minimum mean-squared error) receiver for D-TxAA (dual stream transmit antenna array) based single stream HSDPA MIMO systems using precoding weights. First, we will derive precoding weights for maximizing the total instantaneous received power. We will also analyze the effects of both transmit delay of precoding weights and mobile velocity on chip-level LMMSE receivers, which is verified through computer simulations in various mobile channel environments.

A precoding strategy is one of the representative interference management techniques in cognitive radio (CR) network which is a typical interference-limited environment. The interference minimization approach to precoding is an appropriate scheme to mitigate the interference efficiently while it may cause the capacity loss of the desired channel. The precoding scheme for the maximal capacity of the desired channel improves the capacity of the desired channel while it increases the interference power and finally causes the capacity loss of the interfered users. Therefore, we propose a precoding scheme which satisfies these two conflicting goals and manages the interference signal in such an interference-limited environment. The proposed scheme consists of two steps. First, the precoder nulls out the largest singular value of the interference channel to mitigate the dominant interference signal based on the interference minimization approach. Second, the transmitter calculates the sum capacities per mode and selects a mode to maximize the sum capacity. In the second step, each mode consists of the right singular vectors corresponding to the singular values except the largest singular value eliminated in the first step. Simulation results show that the proposed precoding scheme not only efficiently mitigate the interference signal, but also has the best performance in terms of the sum capacity in a MIMO-based CR network.

This paper studies the problem of precoding and post-coding design for multicell multiuser downlink transmissions in the absence of perfect channel state information (CSI). Using statistical information of imperfect CSI, an iterative multiuser multicell transceiver design is formulated by minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) cost function of signal and leakage interference under per-base station power constraint (PBPC). The convergence of the iterative precoding and postcoding algorithm is verified by analytical and empirical results. The proposed precoding and postcoding algorithm offers a low computational complexity and robustness against CSI imperfection.
