A new precision positioning mechanism for stage was been developed by Displacement Magnification Device(DMD) in this paper. The DMD was composed of the beam and multilayer piezoelectric actuators. The theoretical and experimental analysis of DMD to enlarge displacement more then 50times were discussed. And the 2-axis stage by using displacement amplification apparatus was added in the new DMD, and it was able to do it through finite element analysis and experiment. As the results, the magnification of DMD can be obtained about $100{mu}m$ displacement to the 10V input voltage($1.5{mu}m$). And the about 50nm of linearity error in the $30{mu}m$ measurement range and 20times of the amplification in displacement can be measured. In addition, the experimental results are confirmed the possibility of millimeter displacement characteristics and correspond to finite element analysis results.

Due to recent improvements in computer processing speed and image processing technology, researches are being actively carried out to combine information from a camera with existing GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and dead reckoning. In this study, the mathematical model based on SPR (Single Photo Resection) is derived for image-based assistant algorithm for vehicle positioning. Simulation test is performed to analyze factors affecting SPR. In addition, GNSS/on-board vehicle sensor/image based positioning algorithm is developed by combining image-based positioning algorithm with existing positioning algorithm. The performance of the integrated algorithm is evaluated by the actual driving test and landmark's position data, which is required to perform SPR, based on simulation. The precision of the horizontal position error is 1.79m in the case of the existing positioning algorithm, and that of the integrated positioning algorithm is 0.12m at the points where SPR is performed. In future research, it is necessary to develop an optimized algorithm based on the actual landmark's position data.

Recently, users have been receiving LBS(Local Based Service) which provides various services. The LBS uses positioning information from satellites with using GPS(Global Positioning System). However, due to satellite signal's characteristics which are reflection and refraction in urban areas, users get unexpected positioning information error, expecially if there are so many tall buildings in a small area. To solve this problem, this paper offers a post-processing algorithm. It is consisted of users' direction vectors and positioning information. The positioning information with error is designed to be put on the direction vector. Through a car driving test in urban areas, we've got 11.1m(43%) improved result and demonstrated the superiority of its algorithm.
To solve the problem of parameter optimization in image sensor-based visible light positioning systems, theoretical limits for both the location and the azimuth angle of the image sensor receiver (ISR) are calculated. In the case of a typical indoor scenario, maximum likelihood estimations for both the location and the azimuth angle of the ISR are first deduced. The Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) is then derived, under the condition that the observation values of the image points are affected by white Gaussian noise. For typical parameters of LEDs and image sensors, simulation results show that accurate estimates for both the location and azimuth angle can be achieved, with positioning errors usually on the order of centimeters and azimuth angle errors being less than $1^{\circ}$. The estimation accuracy depends on the focal length of the lens and on the pixel size and frame rate of the ISR, as well as on the number of transmitters used.

Rapid developments in wireless sensor networks have extended many applications, hence, many studies have developed wireless sensor network positioning systems for indoor environments. Among those systems, the Global Position System (GPS) is unsuitable for indoor environments due to Line-Of-Sight (LOS) limitations, while the wireless sensor network is more suitable, given its advantages of low cost, easy installation, and low energy consumption. Due to the complex settings of indoor environments and the high demands for precision, the implementation of an indoor positioning system is difficult to construct. This study adopts a low-cost positioning method that does not require additional hardware, and uses the received signal strength (RSS) values from the receiver node to estimate the distance between the test objects. Since many objects in indoor environments would attenuate the radio signals and cause errors in estimation distances, knowing the path loss exponent (PLE) in an environment is crucial. However, most studies preset a fixed PLE, and then substitute it into a radio propagation loss model to estimate the distance between the test points; such method would lead to serious errors. To address this problem, this study proposes a Path Loss Exponent Estimation Algorithm, which uses only four beacon nodes to construct a radio propagation loss model for an indoor environment, and is able to provide enhanced positioning precision, accurate positioning services, low cost, and high efficiency.

The world, coming into the 21st century, is preparing a new revolution called a knowledge-based society after the industrial society. The interest of the world is concentrated on information technology, nano-technology and biotechnology. In particular, the nano-technology of which study was originally started from an alternative for overcoming semiconductor micro-technology. It can be applied to most industry subject such as electronics, information and communication, machinery, chemistry, bioengineering, energy, etc. They are emerging into the technology that can change civilization of human beings. Specially, ultra precision machining is quickly applied to nano-technology in the field of machinery. Lately, with rapid development of electronics industry and optic industry, there are needs for super precision finishing of various core parts required in such related apparatuses. This paper handles stability of a super precision micro cutting machine that is a core unit of such a super precision finisher, and analyzes the results depending on the hinge type and material change, using FEM analysis. By reviewing the stability, it is possible to achieve the effect of basic data collection for unit control and to reduce trials and errors in unit design and manufacturing.

In the work package 'Integrated Positioning' of the research project NAVIO (Pedestrian Navigation Systems in Combined Indoor/Outdoor Environements) we are dealing with the navigation and guidance of visitors of our University. Thereby start points are public transport stops in the surroundings of the Vienna University of Technology and the user of the system should be guided to certain office rooms or persons. For the position determination of the user different location sensors are employed, i.e., for outdoor positioning GPS and dead reckoning sensors such as a digital compass and gyro for heading determination and accelerometers for the determination of the travelled distance as well as a barometric pressure sensor for altitude determination and for indoor areas location determination using WiFi fingerprinting. All sensors and positioning methods are combined and integrated using a Kalman filter approach. Then an optimal estimate of the current location of the user is obtained using the filter. To perform an adequate weighting of the sensors in the stochastic filter model, the sensor characteristics and their performance was investigated in several tests. The tests were performed in different environments either with free satellite visibility or in urban canyons as well as inside of buildings. The tests have shown that it is possible to determine the user's location continuously with the required precision and that the selected sensors provide a good performance and high reliability. Selected tests results and our approach will be presented in the paper.

Recently, there has been demand for the convergence of IT (Information and communication Technologies, ICT) with defense, as has already been achieved in civilian fields such as healthcare and construction. It is expected that completely new and common requirements would emerge from the civilian and military domains and that the shape of war field would change rapidly. Many military scientists forecast that future wars would be network-centric and be based on C4I(Command, Control, Communication & Computer, Intelligence), ISR(Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), and PGM(Precision Guided Munitions). For realizing the smart defense concept, IT should act as a baseline technology even for simulating a real combat field using virtual reality. In this paper, we propose the concept of IT-based smart defense with a focus on accurate detection in real and cyber wars, effective data communication, automated and unmanned operation, and modeling and simulation.
With the development of precision manufacturing technologies, the importance of precision positioning devices is increasing. Conventional actuators, dual stage or mechanically contacting type, have limitation in coping with performance demands. As a possible solution, magnetic suspension technology was studied. Such a contact-free system has advantages in terms of high accuracy, low production cost and easy adaptability to high precision manufacturing processes. This paper deals with magnetically suspended multi-degrees of freedom actuator which can realize large linear motion. In this paper, the operating principle is explained with the magnetic force analysis, and the equations of motion are derived. Experimental results of the implemented system are also given.

Recently, BLE beacons are widely used in indoor precision positioning systems because of their low battery consumption and low infrastructure cost. However, existing BLE beacon based indoor positioning algorithms are difficult to compensate for position errors due to the user's moving speed. Therefore, we proposed a position error correction algorithm that combines bounced cancellation and minimum distance maintenance algorithm with a positioning error correction method using direction vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm guarantees superior positioning performance than the existing indoor positioning algorithm and also improves the performance of position error compensation.
