Analysis on behavior of keyhole and plasma using photodiode in laser welding of aluminum 6000 alloy (포토 다이오드를 이용한 6000계열 알루미늄 합금의 레이저 용접에서 키홀 및 플라즈마의 거동 해석)

  • In automotive industry, light weight vehicle is one of issues because of the air pollution and the protection of environment. Therefore, automotive manufacturers have tried to apply light materials such as aluminum to car body. Aluminum welding using laser has some advantages high energy density and high productivity. It is very important to understand behavior of plasma and keyhole in order to improve weld quality and monitor the weld state. In this study, spectral analysis was carried out to verify the spectrum for plasma which is generated in laser welding of A 6000 aluminum alloy. Two photodiodes which cover the range of plasma wavelength was used to measure light emission during laser welding according to assist gas flow rate and welding speed. Analysis of relationship between sensor signals of welding variables and formation of keyhole and plasma is performed. To determine the level of significance, analysis of variation (ANOVA) was carried out.

  • Time-temperature indicators (TTI) from three different companies obtained and were attached to food packages materials to evaluate degree of their color change according to storage time and temperature. Five temperature (-10 -5, 0, 5 and 10) was selected to represent standard freezing, refrigerating and room temperature, and evaluated performance by color change based on magnitude of color change and hunter system (L, a, b). Response end point was measured and recorded to find characteristic of each indicator. Comparison and discussion were conducted for accuracy and precision of each time-temperature. More research should be conducted at variable temperature and with various food to determine applicability of TTI on various storage condition.

A study on manufacturing of laser welded tube from 60kgf/$mm^2$Grade Steel Sheet for one-body forming (60kgf/$mm^2$급 일체화 성형용 레이저 용접 튜브 제조에 관한 연구)

  • Optimal processing and system to produce the laser welded tube for one body formed bumper beam are studied. The calculated size of tube is a thickness of 1.4mm, diameter of 105.4mm and length of 2000mm. The tube is shaped from cool rolled high strength steel sheet(tensile strength: 60kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ grade). Two roll bending method is the optimal tube shaping process compared to UO-bending, bending on press brake, multi-step continuous roll forming and 3 roll bending methods. Weld quality monitoring and seam tracking along the butt-joint lengthwise to the tube axis are also studied. The longitudinal butt-joint is welded by the $CO_2$ laser welding system equipped with a seam tracker and plasma sensor. The constructed $CO_2$ laser tube welding system can be used for the precision seam tracking and the real-time monitoring of weld quality. Finally, the obtained laser welded tube can be used for one-body formed automobile bumper beam.

  • This paper describes a look-ahead algorithm of PCNC(personal computer numerical control). The algorithm is based on acceleration/deceleration before interpolation never including a command error and determines a velocity value in end point of each block(or start point of each block). The algorithm is represented as following; 1) calculating two maximum arrival velocity(v1, v2) by a acceleration value, a command velocity and distance in a previous block and a next block, 2) getting a tangent velocity(v3) of the adjacent blocks, 3) choosing a minimum value among these three velocities, and 4) setting the value to a velocity of a start point of the next block(or a end point of the previous block). The proposed look-ahead algorithm was implemented and tested by using a commercial RTOS(real time operation system) on the MS-Windows NT 4.0 in a PC platform. For interfacing to a machine, a counter board, a DAC board and a DIO board were used. The result of the algorithm increased a machining precision and a machining speed in many short blocks.

  • Ultra precision progressive die have used for above one million's lot size of production part. In the field of design and making tool for press working, the progressive die for sheet metal (STS 304, thickness : 0.5mm) is a specific division. In order to prevent the defects, the optimum design of the production part, strip layout, die design, die making and tryout etc. are necessary. They require analysis of many kinds of important factors, i.e. theory and practice of metal press working and its phenomena, die structure, machining condition for die making, die materials, heat treatment of die component, know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and constructed a progressive die of multi-stage and performed try out. Out of these processes the die development could be taken for advance. Especially the result of tryout and its analysis become the characteristics of this paper (part 1 and part 2) that nothing might be ever seen before such as this type of research method on all the processes. In the part 2 of this study we treated die making and tryout mostly.

  • The object transport system is used in many industry field such as the conveyor belt, which transports huge goods in container harbor, the magnetic levitation system, and the indexing system which transports precision components such as semiconductor and optical components. In conventional transport system, the magnetic field may damage semiconductor and the contact force may scratch on the optical lens. So ultrasonic wave transport system has been proposed to replace the previous transport system. In this paper, the good transport condition of optical lens is obtained according to the flexural beam shapes. The working frequency and transport speed are measured and the vibration characteristics of the flexural beams are investigated by Laser Scanning Vibrometer.

  • Cutting process has been automated by progress of CNC and CAD/CAM, but polishing process has been depended on only experiential knowledge of expert. To automate the polishing process, a polishing robot with w degrees of freedom which is attached to a machining center with 3 degrees of freedom has been developed. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal on the curved surface of die to improve a performance of polishing. Polishing task for a curved surface die demands repetitive operation and high precision, but conventional control algorithm can not cope with the problem of disturbance such as a change of load. In this research, a new sliding mode control algorithm is applied to the robot. The signal compression method is used to identify polishing robot system. to obtain an effect of 5 degrees of freedom motion, a synchronization between the machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. And also a trajectory for polishing the curved surface die by 5 degrees of freedom motion, a synchronization between the machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. And also a trajectory for polishing the curved surface die by 5 axes machining center is divided into data of two types for 3 axes machining center and 2 axes polishing robot. To evaluate polishing performance of the robot. various experiments are carried out.

  • In this paper, it is presented a new technique to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot. Fuzzy control has emerged as one of the most active and fruitful areas for research in the applications of fuzzy set theory, especially in the real of industrial processes. In this thesis, a self-organizing fuzzy controller for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. A fuzzy logic composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult, SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules. The proposed SOFC scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the SOFC is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot with eight joints.

  • In this paper presents a new approach to the design and real-time implementation of fuzzy control system based-on digital signal processors(DSP:IMS320C80) in order to improve the precision and robustness for system of industrial robot(Dual-Arm with 8 joint Robot). The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The IMS320C80 is used in implementing real time fuzzy control to provide an enhanced motion control for robot manipulators. In this paper, a Self-Organizing Fuzzy Controller(SOFC) for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied. Robust Design of the Gate System for Flatness Improvement in Semi-Solid Casting Processes (반응고 주조공정에서 평면도 증대를 위한 게이트시스템의 강건설계)

  • Semi-solid casting(SSC) of magnesium alloys is increasingly being used to produce high quality components. This process is similar to the injection molding of plastics and is called thixomolding. Using this process, higher strength, thinner wall sections and tighter tolerances without porosity are obtained. The high strength and low weight characteristics of magnesium alloys render the high-precision fabrication of thin-walled components with large surface areas. They are widely used for the IT, auto and consumer electronics industries. However, warpage of the thin-walled sections degrade quality of the parts produced in the SCC process. To produce thin-walled magnesium alloy parts, the geometry of gating system on the quality of the finished products should be clearly studied. In this paper, to minimize warpage of the thin-walled sections, Taguchi method is applied to the optimal design of the gate geometry in the thixomolding process. Width, height, length and angle of the gating system are selected for the robust design parameters. Effectiveness of the robust design is verified through the CAE software.
