A Study on Implementation of Al-Inserted Plastic Injection Molding Process for Automobile Interior-Parts (자동차부품용 알루미늄인서트 사출성형공정 구현에 관한 연구)

  • Generally a plastic injection molding is a manufacturing process used to produce the various parts of complicated shape at low cost. The objective of this study is to implement a new plastic injection molding process with inserted Aluminum sheet, which is highly durable, light and luminous. Moldflow analysis and simulation of plastic injection molding process with inserted Aluminum sheet were carried out in order to predict optimal molding operation conditions. The experimental results in the Al-inserted plastic injection molding process were compared with the simulation results by Moldflow. Durability and reliability test results for trial products were satisfied to adopt the Al-inserted plastic injection molding process developed as manufacturing of automobile interior parts.

  • In this study, we introduce how to apply "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to injection molding system. We report the current state of IT technology applied to produce their products in micro lens injection molding system. And we explain key technology of ICT for injection molding system and how to implement. Especially, we also mention about an embedded controller, also called as "M2M device". It provides programmable intelligent functions, communication, various interfaces, amplifier functions and mobile device connection to our application.

  • Due to the capability of net shaping for complex 3D geometry, powder injection molding (PIM) is widely used for automotive parts, electronics and medical industry. In this study, an ultrasonic dental scaler tip produced by machining process was redesigned for the PIM process. An injection mold was designed and manufactured to produce the dental scaler tip by the PIM process.

  • Powder injection molding(PIM) is widely used for many parts in the field of automotives, electronics and medical industries, due to the capability of net shaping for complex 3-D geometry. Powder injection mold design fur the dental scaler tip, a component of medical appliance, was presented. In comparison with conventional machining process, powder injection molding has many advantages, specially in price and dimensional stability, for molding dental scaler tip which has complex geometry. Both product design and mold design for dental scaler tip were presented. The 'rapid mold' concept was applied to manufacture the various forms of dental scaler tip.

  • The technologies of mold design, manufacturing, injection molding process and computer aided engineering(CAE) are developed rapidly with the growth of plastic product market. Injection molding process optimum design can not be easily determined. This study was determined factors and levels which carried out to analyze an influence of narrow pitch BGA socket warpage and performed investigating the main effect and interaction effect between factors using design of experiment. The result of this paper is injection time and packing pressure are affect on narrow pitch BGA socket warpage at injection molding.

  • In this study, the automatic packaging system for small injection molding product is developed. In most of injection molding company, many problems such as manpower problem, productivity decline and inferiority rate increase are occurred since processes after injection molding are executed by hands. The automatic system which is developed is for packaging small injection molding products as 6mm ball. Finally, many problems of injection molding process are resolved and the productivity will increase by applying developed system to field and this technique lays the groundwork for developing similar automatic system.

  • Aspheric polymer lens fabrication using isothermal compression molding is presented in this paper. Due to increasing definition of an image sensor, higher precision is required by a lens which can be used as a part of an imageforming optical module. Injection molding is a factory standard method for a polymer optical lens. But achievable precision using injection molding has a formidable limitation due to the machining of complex mold structure and melting and cooling down a polymer melt under high pressure condition during forming process. To overcome the precision requirement and limitation using injection molding method, isothermal compression molding is applied to fabrication of a polymer optical lens. The fabrication condition is determined by numerical simulations of temperature distribution and given material properties. Under the found condition, the lens having a high precision can successfully be reproduced and does not show birefringence which results often in optical degradation.

  • The injection molding is very effective process for various plastic products due to its high productivity. It is also good fur precise products like optical parts. Various thermoplastic materials are also available with this injection molding process. In recent, however, as the overall size of the product increases and micro or nano scale of patterns are applied to the products, we now have some problems such as low fidelity of the replication of the pattern, high molding pressure, or warpage from the in-mold stress. Injection/compression molding is studied to overcome those problems in molding large thin plate with micro pattern array on its surface. An injection compression mold is designed to 3 pieces mold for side gate. We install 4 pressure transducers and 9 thermocouples to measure the melt pressure and surface temperature in the cavity during the process. As a result, the maximum molding pressure for injection compression molding is reduced to 1/3 compared to injection molding and the uniformity of the pressure in the cavity is enhanced by about 15%.
