AutoLISP을 이용한 전방압출 금형의 자동설계 연구 (Automated Design of Forward Extrusion Die by AutoLISP Language)

  • Lots of forginfs used in automobile and aerospce industries are made in hot or cold working conditions, depending on the size and shape of a product. Usually the die design for new items has been first made on the basis of experiences and many know-hows accumulated in the company and then slightly modified through trial and error method to get the desired forgings without defects. Most of drawings at the die design stage have been manually drawn, butrecently some of forging companies have begun to apply a computer-aided drafting technique to the die design for reducing drafting time as well as repeatedly utilizing standardized parts form registerd data base. In this paper the automated die design technique for forward extrusion of axisymmetric forgings is developed by using AutoLISP language. For this study the representative die system is determined form the investigation of several types of forging dies being currently employed in the metal forming field and the design rules for cold extrusion die are summarized and programmed on a personal computer. A few design examples of forward extrusion die are given and discusses.

축대칭 단조공정에서 최종제품의 탄성회복에 관한 해석 (Determination of Elastic Recovery for Axi-Symmetric Forged Products)

  • The dimensional accuracy of a final product is mainly affected by elastic die deformation during the forging and elastic recovery after the ejection in cold forging process. The investigations on elastic recovery are not so much as those of elastic die deformation. The elastic recovery can be determined by using the elastic-plalstic finite element analysis, but, this method has some limits such as poor conver- gence and long computational time, etc. In this paper, a theoretical analysis for predicting the elastic recovery of a final product in axi-symmetric forging process by using the rigid-plastic finite element method is presented. The rigid-plastic finite element analysis of a cold forward extrusion process involving loading, ejecting process is accomplished by rigid-plastic FE code, DEFORM. The effect of elastic die deformation on the final product dimenmsion is also considered. The calculated elastic recovery is compared is compared with the analysis result of elastic-plastic FE code.   • The rotary forging process has a potential for producing high-precision parts because of smaller forging forces and incrementally controlled deformation, especially in cold forging of intricate parts to net shape. But while thin circular plate are made by rotary forging, center thinning and fracture will occur under given conditions. The trouble has seriously influenced the quality of products and the spreading of this technique. This paper intends to explain the phenomenon of center thinning and gives a criterion of it. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed criterion, experiments have been carried out by using the rotary forging press which has been designed and constructed in our laboratory.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design system of cold forging products. An approach to the system is based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plastic theories, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. The system has been written in AutoCAD with a personal computer and is composed of six modules, which are selection of billet material, input of final product, process planning design, preform modification, insert design, shrink rings design module. Based on knowledge-based rules, the system is designed by considering several factors such as volume constancy, limite of formability by material, preform shape and so on.

  • A rear axle spider in an irregular shape, which is used as a part in the braking system of a vehicle like a big truck and a trailer, is subjected to a large torque and hence requires both strength and endurance over the brake heat. This part should be therefore manufactured in dimensional accuracy. The practical manufacturing process of this irregular product requires the heat treatment process after hot forging and then the cold coining process for the dimensional accuracy. At the present study, the warm coning without the heat treatment process was proposed to employ the residual heat due to the hot forging process. And also the trimming and piercing process was designed using the rigid-plastic finite element method. The mechanical properties were discussed and also commented upon.

  • In this paper, the analysis of cold forging in final state has been performed by using rigid-plastic FEM. For the analysis, the geometry and flow stress of the workpiece are required. One method to obtain the geometry is measurement of that made from experimet. To evaluate the flow stress, average effective strain is calculated from the load-stroke diagram by using energy method. The numerical test performed to show the validity of propose method. The analysis of PFIR, the precision forging of spurgear with inside relif, is performed.

  • A systematic method of remeshing is required due to severe mesh distortion after some finite deformation in the finite element analysis of practical forging processes. In order to cope with the problem of mesh degeneracy during deformation, the proper design of meshes plays an improtant role in the analysis. In so-called "Modular Remeshing", the physical characteristics of metal flow and geometric characteristics are incorporated in "Module", which can be applied to the mesh design for a certain mode of deformation in so far as the topology of deforming region remains the same. For the purpose of more effective and systematic use of the modular remeshing scheme, an expert system has been developed in the framework of the proposed remeshing schemel. In oredr to show the effectiveness of the method, the rib-web type forging with axial relief or radial relief and spike forging are simulated. It has been thus shown that the proposed method of automatic remeshing by using modular remeshing and expert system can be futher extended and applied to various forging problems with complicated geometrical configurations.ical configurations.

  • The amount of production orders from Japanese car and construction machine industries have slightly increased in 2002, but the costs of the forged parts have decreased due to severe competitions with the other Asian countries. Most of the forging industries and some universities are making more efforts for technological researches and developments to meet the demand for higher accuracy and higher quality products, shortening of delivery time, and development of forged parts for new industrial fields. Some helical gears of which surfaces can be net-shaped have been started for commercial base production to be shipped to car industries. Some non-graphite lubricants for hot forging and some conversion coating free lubricants for cold forging have been developed to improve some environmental problems.

  • The conventional closed-die forging processes had been applied to forging of the spur gears. But this type process requires high pressure. The commercial finite element analysis code ANSYS for the stress and elastic deformation of non-axisymmetric die was adopted in this study. In the non-axisymmetric die such as gear forging, maximum stresses were imposed on the tip of the gear tooth. When the stress exceeds yield strength of insert die, many approaches were attemped to prevent the die failure. Good shaped products are forged successfully. This type process could by used as an advanced technique to replace conventional hobbing process of gear.
