  • This paper presents an automated visual inspection/measuring system for the door inner panel manufacturing process. The main objective of this research is to develop inspection applications with a machine vision system related to the determination or quantification of parameters such as dimension, shape, quality of surfaces, number of holes in a panel, and presence or absence of specific features. For quality measurements, we showed a subpixel image processing technology that will improve the consistency of results and level of precision. Also presented is a data analysis method th detect process shifts so that corrective action can be undertaken before more defective units are manufactured.

  • Microforming technology becomes crucial in variety of industries as up-to-date machinery products and parts are miniaturized Therefore research on micro forming processes are actively conducted because of its high productivity, high precision and efficienct material usage. Since friction during microforming has greater influence than macroforming, hydrostatic pressing is much more efficient. In this paper minimization of bur during fine sheet shear forming and hydrostatic process of multi-filament extrusion to obtain fine wire of micro-order have been conducted.

  • In this paper, asymmetric drainage boundaries modeled by exponential functions which can simulate intermediate drainage from pervious to impervious boundary is proposed for the one-dimensional consolidation problem, and the solution for the new boundary conditions was derived. The new boundary conditions satisfy the initial and the steady state conditions, and the solution for the new boundary conditions can be degraded to the conventional solution by Terzaghi. Convergence study on the infinite series solution showed that only one term in the series is needed to meet the precision requirement for larger degree of consolidation, and that more terms in the series for smaller degree of consolidation. Comparisons between the present solution with those by Terzaghi and Gray are also provided.

  • A new axisymmetric crack model is proposed on the basis of p-version of the finite element method limited to theory of small scale yielding. To this end, axisymmetric stress element is formulated by integrals of Legendre polynomial which has hierarchical nature and orthogonality relationship. The virtual crack extension method has been adopted to calculate the stress intensity factors for 3-D axisymmetric cracked bodies where the potential energy change as a function of position along the crack front is calculated. The sensitivity with respect to the aspect ratio and Poisson locking has been tested to ascertain the robustness of p-version axisymmetric element. Also, the limit value that is an exact solution obtained by FEM when degree of freedom is infinite can be estimated using the extrapolation equation based on error prediction in energy norm. Numerical examples of thick-walled cylinder, axisymmetric crack in a round bar and internal part-thorough cracked pipes are tested with high precision.

  • In order to prevent the defects, the optimum design of the production part, strip process layout, die design, die making and try out etc. are necessary the analysis of effective factors. For example, theory and practice of metal shearing process and it's phenomena, die structure, machine tool working for die making, die materials and it's heat treatment, metal working in field, their know how etc. are included in those factors. In this study, we analyzed whole of data base, theoretical back ground of metal working process, and then performed the progressive die tryout with the screw press. Part2 of this study reveals with ultra precision progressive die design, its making and tryout.

  • Steel is produced through the steel-making process with a desired shape by a rolling press. Scrap is removed according to the sheet edge to improve the quality of the product. This machine is called a side trimmer. This study aimed to develop a side trimmer for automatically changing the width of the trimming knife without line stopping. This machine consists of a housing opening device and a turning device. The measuring technologies of sheet width, trimming knife rotation angle, and knife gap for increasing the control accuracy. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of the developed technologies. It was reduced by 10% compared with the operation time of the conventional method.

  • Forging is a manufacturing process involving the shaping of metal using localized compressive forces and the process of deforming metal into a predetermined shape using certain tools and press according to the temperature. Forging provides stronger metal parts than that possible by casting or machining. Conventional clutch jaw parts have been developed through cold forging and precision machining; however, fabrication of integral clutch jaw parts for farm machinery has not been reported yet. These parts were developed by applying a complex forging technology combining cold and hot forging. The integrated forming technology proposed in this study will be useful for reducing the lead-time for manufacturing, improving the accuracy of products, and eliminating the welding process.

  • Based on classical viscoelastic damper, a brand-new damper is designed by the change of simple construction to implement vibration control for both translational vibration and rotational vibration simultaneously. Theoretic analysis has been carried out on the restoring force model and the control parameters. Two improved models are presented to obtain high simulation precision. The influence of the size, shape of the viscoelastic material, the ambient temperature and the response frequency on the vibration control effect is analyzed. The numerical results show that the new type viscoelastic damper is capable of mitigating the multi-dimensional seismic response of offshore platform and the response control effect has complicated relations with aforementioned related factors.

  • The Pulse-Pre Pump Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis (PPP-BOTDA) technique is introduced to implement the multi-direction strain measurement. The monitoring principle is stated. The layout scheme of optical fibers is proposed. The temperature compensation formula and its realizing method are given. The experiments, under tensile load, combined bending and tensile load, are implemented to validate the feasibility of the proposed method. It is shown that the PPP-BOTDA technique can be used to discriminate the multi-direction strains with high spatial resolution and precision.

  • The long-term behaviour of simply supported composite steel-concrete beams with deformable connectors subjected to skew bending and torsion is presented. The problem is dealt with by recurring to the displacement method, assuming the bending and torsional curvatures and the longitudinal deformations of each sectional part as unknowns and obtaining a system of differential and integro-differential equations. Some solving methods are presented, in order to obtain exact and approximate solutions and evaluate the precision of the approximate ones. A case study is then presented. For the sake of clearness, the responses of the composite beam under loads applied in different directions are studied separately, in order to correctly evaluate the effects of each load condition.
