  • Multichannel seismic data acquired in Ulleung Basin of East Sea for gas hydrate exploration. The seismic sections of this area show strong BSR(bottom simulating reflections) associated with methane hydrate occurrence in deep marine sediments. Very limited information is available from deep sea drilling as the risk of heating and destabilizing the initial hydrate conditions during the processing of drilling is considerably high. Not so many advanced status of gas hydrate exploration in Korea, the most of information of gas hydrate characteristics and properties are inferred from seismic reflection data. In this study, The AVO analysis using the long offset seismic data acquired in Ulleung Basin used to explain the characteristics and structure of gas hydrate. It is used primarily P-wave velocity accessible from seismic data. To make a good quality of AVO analysis input data, seismic preprocessing including 'true gain correction', 'source signature deconvolution', twice velocity analysis and some kinds of multiple rejection and enhancing the signal to noise ratio processes is carried out very carefully. The results of AVO analysis, the eight kinds of AVO attributes are estimated basically and some others of AVO attributes are evaluated for interpretation of AVO analysis additionally. The impedance variation at the boundary of gas hydrate and free gas is estimated for investing the BSR characteristics and properties. The complex analysis is performed also to verifying the amplitude variation and phase shift occurrence at BSR. Type III AVO anomaly appearance at saturated free gas area is detected on BSR. It can be an important evidence of gas hydrate deposition upper the BSR.

  • Motion artifacts of central and autonomic nervous system signals degrades the performance of the bio-signal based human factor analysis. Firstly, we propose a defining method of motion artifact section by analyzing successive image frames. Motion artifact section is defined when the amount of motion is greater than the pre-defined threshold. In here, the amount of motion is estimated by first derivation of image frames at temporal domain. Secondly, we propose another defining method of motion artifact section through designing 2D Gaussian probability density function model by analyzing feature vectors of one cycle of signal such as length and amplitude. The defined motion artifact sections are interpolated on the basis of 1D Gaussian function. At result of applying the method into photoplethysmography signal, we confirmed that the calculated heartbeat rate from the restored photoplethysmography came up to the one from electrocardiography. Also, we found that the video based method generated relatively more false acceptance of motion artifact section and the probability density function based method generated relatively more false rejection of motion artifact section.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the art nouveau fashion represented in the end of the twentieth century. The characteristics of art nouveau are naturalism, medievalism , exoticism, and decadentism. The influences of art nouveau were seen in the fashion of the late nineteenth century : S-curve silhouette and organic curve motives printed on hems. Art nouveau has reappeared in modern fashion trends such as romanticism , decadence, ecology, ethno, and fusion. To sum up, art nouveau fashion at the end of the twentieth century is classified into four shapes. First, art nouveau appears in naturalism. Influenced by the arts and crafts movements and naturalistic trend, it has reappeared at the end of the twentieth century in themes like 'art & craft'. This expression technique is to objectively nature and to represented art nouveau textiles. Second, S-curve silhouette appeared at the end of nineteenth century's fashion with the art nouveau influenced rejection of the bustle style. At the end of the twentieth century, the design , emphasizing the hip, is represented in fashion collections as a phenomenon of romanticism . Especially the art nouveau silhouette of the end of the twentieth century does not represent S-curve silhouette. But , it emphasizes the hip only. Third, Art nouveau exoticism by symbolism is influenced by Chinese and Celtic art, the Middle Ages, and the exoticism that appeared in fashion at the end of the nineteenth century : harem style, kimono style, and turbans. Exoticism at the end of the twentieth century is expressed by optical flower prints and successive floral print arrangements as seen in the themes of ethno and fusion. Fourth, one of the characteristics of art nouveau, decadence is influenced by the pre-raphaelite brotherhood. This is expressed in the images of vampires, and symbolism expressing grotesque insect motives and decadent successive curves. At the end of the twentieth century decadence is represented in fashion ; grotesque insect motives, tatto looks of organic curve motives celtic hair style, see-through fashion, grotesque make-up . Besides hair style techniques, decadent expressions applying art nouveau paintings also appeared. Finally , art nouveau fashion represented as a fashion trend at the turning point to the new millennium is one of great significance as an organic, an environment-intimate and continuance-possible design in a future.

  • An on-line ultrasonic detector was developed to continuously monitor the ultrasonic signal due to partial discharge in transformer in service. The on-line ultrasonic detector has a band-pass filter designed to measure only the frequencies from 50 to 300[㎑] of ultrasonic signal, to remove electrical and mechanical noises from outside of the transformer, and tlle ultrasonic sensor contains a pre-amplifier with 60[dB] gain. The ultrasonic signal discrimination algorithm which discriminates the ultrasonic signal duration was developed to remove the ultrasonic signal due to OLTC operation having similar characteristics to those due to partial discharge. The reliability of the on-line ultrasonic detector developed in this study was convinced of measurement the ultrasonic signals from the model. transformer in laboratory and transformer in service.

  • Background: Ischemic injury and the rejection process are the main reasons for graft failure in tracheal transplantation models. To enhance the acceptance, we investigated the influence of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on tracheal allografts. Methods: Extracted tracheal grafts from New Zealand white rabbits were cryopreserved for 4 weeks and orthotopically transplanted (control group A, n=8). In group B (n=8), cyclosporin A (CsA, 10 mg/kg) was injected daily into the peritoneal cavity. In group C (n=8), MSCs ($1.0{\times}10^7$ cells/kg) from the same donor of the tracheal allograft, which had been pre-cultured for 4 weeks, were infused intravenously after transplantation. In group D (n=8), MSCs were infused and CsA was injected daily. Four weeks after transplantation, gross and histomorphological assessments were conducted for graft necrosis, measuring the cross-sectional area of the allograft, determining the degree of epithelization, lymphocytic infiltration, and vascular regeneration. Results: The morphologic integrity of the trachea was retained completely in all cases. The cross-sectional areas were decreased significantly in group A (p=0.018) and B (p=0.045). The degree of epithelization was enhanced (p=0.012) and the lymphocytic infiltration was decreased (p=0.048) significantly in group D compared to group A. The degree of vascular regeneration did not differ significantly in any of the groups. There were no significant correlations among epithelization, lymphocytic infiltration, and vascular regeneration. Conclusion: The administration of MSCs with concurrent injections of CsA enhanced and promoted epithelization and prevented lymphocytic infiltration in tracheal allografts, allowing for better acceptance of the allograft.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of a face recognition algorithm using the eigenfaces method. In the absence of robust personal recognition schemes, a biometric recognition system has essentially researched to improve their shortcomings. A face recognition system in biometries is widely researched in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition, since it is possible to comprehend intuitively our faces. The proposed system projects facial images onto a feature space that effectively expresses the significant variations among known facial images. The significant features are known as 'eigenfaces', because they are the eigenvectors(principal components) of the set of faces. The projection operation characterizes an individual face by a weighted sum of the eigenface features, and to recognize a particular face it is necessary only to compare these weights to those of known individuals. In order to analyze the performance of the system, we develop a face recognition system by using Harvard database in Harvard Robotics Laboratory. We present the recognition rate according to variations on the lighting condition, numbers of the employed eigenfaces, and existence of a pre-processing step. Finally, we construct a rejection curve in order to investigate the practicability of the recognition method using the eigenfaces.

  • PURPOSE. A survey was conducted to assess the impact of a TED-like educational session on participants' willingness to accept dental implant therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Volunteers interested in having information about dental implant therapies were recruited and asked to complete a two-part survey before and after an educational session. The initial survey elicited demographic information, self-perceived knowledge on dental implants and willingness to this kind of treatment. A "TED-style" presentation that provided information about dental implant treatments was conducted before asking the participants to complete a second set of questions assessing the impact of the session. RESULTS. The survey was completed by 104 individuals, 78.8% were women and the mean age was $66.5{\pm}10.8$. Before the educational session, 76.0% of the participants refused dental implants mainly due to lack of knowledge. After the educational session, the rejection of dental implants decreased by almost four folds to 20.2%. CONCLUSION. This study proved that an educational intervention can significantly increase willingness to accept treatment with dental implants in a segment of the population who is interested in having information about dental implant therapy. Furthermore, educational interventions, such as TED-like talks, might be useful to increase popular awareness on dental implant therapy.

  • Background: This study examined the outcomes of ABO incompatible living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). The changes in the immunologic factors that might help predict the long term outcomes were also studied. Methods: Twenty-three patients, who underwent ABO incompatible LDLT from 2010 to 2015, were reviewed retrospectively. The protocol was the same as for ABO compatible LDLT except for the administration of rituximab and plasma exchange. The clinical outcomes and immunologic factors, such as isoagglutinin titer and cluster of differentiation 20+ (CD20+) lymphocyte levels were reviewed. Results: The center showed a 3-year survival of 64% with no case of antibody-mediated rejection. When transplantation-unrelated mortalities (for example, traffic accidents and myocardial infarction) were removed from statistical analysis, the 3-year survival was 77.8%. Although isoagglutinin titers continued to remain at low levels, the CD20+ lymphocyte levels recovered to the pre-Rituximab levels at postoperative one year. Conclusions: As donor shortages continue, ABO incompatible liver transplantation is a feasible method to expand the donor pool. On the other hand, caution is still needed until more long-term outcomes are reported. Because CD20+ lymphocytes are recovered with time, more immunologic studies will be needed in the future.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest diverse directions for eco-friendly knit designing through analyzing the characteristics of Stella McCartney's knit designs. The first stage of the research was to explore the characteristics of eco-friendly fashion design based on literature review. The next stage was to categorize the characteristics of eco-friendly design found in Stella McCartney' knit fashion based on the precedent analysis. The data collected showed 274 examples from 40 Stella McCartney collections, including Spring, Resort, Pre-Fall, and Fall Ready-to-wear collections between 2013 and 2022. All information was collected using www.vogue.com. As a result, the characteristics of Stella McCartney's knit design were classified into four directopms: 1) Perpetual Naturalism, 2) Cultural Complexity, 3) Practical Functionality, and 4) Subcultural Reproducibility. The first characteristic, 'Perpetual Naturalism' values the continuous symbiosis between animals and human beings, thereby protecting global environmental value. Stella McCartney's knit design continuously showed a longing for nature's beauty through fashion design, which allowed people to enjoy the meaning of symbiosis between human beings and animals. Second, 'Cultural Complexity' is the characteristic that appears in Stella McCartney's knit fashion design when collaborating with various artists and/or mixing traditional knit motives inspired by traditional cultures and retro moods. Third, 'Practical Functionality' is the design characterisitic that allows items to be worn for a long time as it is comfortable, simple, and practical. Stella McCartney's knit designs pursue easy-to-wear designs that are comfortable and have practical designs with simple details. Lastly, 'Subcultural Reproducibility' showed in Stella McCartney's knit designs reflect Hippie culture, which pursued a rejection of conventional values, and promoted sustainable energy. This culture peaked in the 1960s and 1970s, when 'Beatles' were mainly working. Additionally, retro styled knit designs inspired by other various music genres from the 1980s and 1990s appeared in this category as well.
