  • Since the amplitude of voiced fall off at about -20dB/decade, dynamic range is often compressed prior to spectral analysis so that details at weak, high frequencies may be visible. Preemphasizing the speech, either by differentiating the analog speech $s_a$(t) prior to A/D conversion or by differencing the discrete-time s(n)=$s_a$(nT), compensating for falloff at high frequencies. The most common form of preemphasis is y(n)=s(n)-As(n-1), where A typically lies between 0.9 and 1.0 and reflects the degree of pre-emphasis. In this paper, we proposed that A is adjusted at each time by measuring the slope of envelope in frequency domain.

  • The 'wrapper' is a module that extracts and processes information from the specified data source by the pre-composed extraction rule. 'HTML Wrapper for XML' extracts information from the web source as the form of XML document. Since composing the extraction rule is a repetitious and tedious job, it should be done as easy and fast as possible. This paper presents the method to minimize the composing job, which integrates GUI based training and scripting.

  • A 4-year joint research project(1999-2003), entitled "The Development of Multiple Talents(DMT)", has been designed and carrying out under the sponsorship of the National Science Council, R.O.C. (Taiwan). A 3-dimension construct is proposed for the DMT: form of talents (10 forms, mainly based on Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences), function of talents (3 functions, based on Sternberg's conception of successfulintelligence), and developmental stage (4 stages, from pre-school to senior high). To take an example of its empirical studies, Wu and Chien (2000), based on a renovated conception of personal intelligence, developed the "Personal Intelligence Inventory" (PII). By means of the PII, it was found that there were some personal intelligence differences between gifted and regular pupils; however, gifted group was not as superior as on academic performance to the regular one (Wu & Chien, 2000). It was also found that there were significant relationships between pupils' personal intelligence and school adjustment in both groups (Tsai & Wu, 2000).

  • Many control techniques have been proposed in order to improve the control performance of discrete-time domain control system. In the position control system using a DC servo motor as a driver, the response-characteristic of system is controlled by the PID controller. In the PID control system, the transient response characteristic is more increased and settling time gets longer if gains of PID controller are unsuitable. In this paper, therefore, a expended PID control system is constructed by inserting a pre-compensator at output terminal of PID controller. It is implemented by using the double layers neural network. Form the results of computer simulation in the proposed control algorithm, its usefulness is verified.

  • Electrically tunable photonic band gap (PBG) materials based on crystalline structures have been developed for active components of display. Despite considerable advances, the intrinsic drawbacks of the crystalline PBG materials such as the strong angle dependent hue and difficulty of fabricating defect-free structures in large area have yet to be addressed for their practical applications. Here we report quasi-amorphous colloidal structures exhibiting angle-independent photonic colors in response to the electric stimuli. Moderately polydisperse colloidal Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles dispersed in organic solvents exclusively form quasi-amorphous photonic materials at sufficiently high concentrations (> 30 wt%), and which reversibly reflect incident light in visible region ($\lambda$ peak = 490~655 nm) in response to the relatively low bias voltage (0~4 V). We show the angle-independent tunable photonic colors with the fast response time (50~170 ms) due to the isotropic nature of quasi-amorphous structures. Conventional vacuum injection technique is applicable for fabricating flexible full color photonic display pixels with various pre-defined shapes.

  • Nowadays most companies are required to acquire the quality assurance system for their survival. It is essential to improvement company's competitive power that Certification of Quality Assurance System but there are many problems. To analysis the effects of ISO 9000 series/QS-9000 QA systems to the Domestic Company Quality Improvement as well as quality consciousness, data has been surveyed form quality assurance engineers who have work on certification activities. The data is analyzed using relevant tabulations of five scale or paired t test method in order to compare level of quality management of pre-certification with that of post-certification. It is analyzed in two parts which are qualitative effects and quality maturity grid. Also, to analysis for the bottlenecks and problems the data is analyzed using frequency analysis method.

  • This study is designed to manufacture the upgraded sound absorption concrete by using foamed concrete by using artificial light weight aggregate which raises the continuous void ratio to increase the sound absorption ratio and improve the strength. In manufacturing the sound absorption block, the pre-foaming form is applied to generate continuous voids, controlling the density by the addition of bubbles. It is general that the more porosity creates, the weaker strength becomes. Each of specimens are used for this experiment and measured their absorption ratio to examine the absorption property depending on frequency. As a results of experiment, it is evaluated that the absorption capacity of the sound absorption block has relation to compression strength and surface shape.

  • Low-mass star-formation studies deal with the birth of individual solar-type stars as it occurs in nearby molecular clouds. While this isolated mode of star formation may not represent the most common form of stellar birth, its study often provides first evidence for the general ingredients of star formation, such as gravitational infall, disk formation, or outflow acceleration. Here I briefly review the current status and the main challenges in our understanding of low-mass star formation, with emphasis in the still mysterious pre-stellar phase. In addition to presenting by-now classical work, I also show how ALMA is starting to play a decisive role driving progress in this field.

  • Various mechanistic aspects of the A2 hydrolysis of methyl acetimidate were explored using the MNDO method. As in thecorresponding reactions of acetamide and methyl carbamate, a proton transfer pre-equilibrium exists between the N-protonated and the O-protonated tautomers, and the subsequent hydrolysis proceeds from the more stable N-protonated form. Of the two reaction pathways, the $A_{AL}2$ path is favored in the gas phase and in concentrated acid solutions, whereas the $A_{AC}2$ path is favored in less acidic solutions with a stable cationic tetrahedral intermediate formed in the rate determining step. Negative charge development on the alkoxy oxygen in the transition state suggested a rate increase with the increase in the electron withdrawing power of the alkoxy group. Calculations on the reaction processes with AM1 indicated that MNDO is more reliable in this type of work, although AM1 is better than MNDO in reproducing hydrogen bonds.

  • Fine particles of water-soluble pharmaceuticals were prepared using a new micronization method, Carbon Dioxide Assisted Nebulization in a Bubble Dryer(CAN-BD). The process utilized mixtures of CO$_2$ in aqueous solution at supercritical conditions to form an emulsion. The aerosols were dried with pre-heated nitrogen, and the drying chamber was operated at near atmospheric pressure. The dry particles were collected on membrane filter at the bottom of the drying chamber. Several processing parameters such as flow rate, temperature, pressure, solid concentration and processing scale were accessed using NaCl, human serum albumin, and granulocyte-colony stimulating factor as model pharmaceuticals.
