Industrial applications and characteristics of lignocellulolytic enzymes in Basidiomycetous fungi (담자균류 목질섬유소 분해효소의 특성과 산업적 이용)

  • Basidiomycetous fungi are one of the most potent biodegraders because many of its species grow on dead wood or litter, in environments rich in lignocellulose. For the degradation of lignocellulose, basidiomycetes utilize their lignocellulytic enzymes, which typically include laccase (EC 1.10.3.2), lignin peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.14), xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), and cellulase (EC 3.2.1.4). In recent years, the practical applications of basidiomycetes have ranged from the textile to the pulp and paper industries, and from food applications to bioremediation processes and industrial enzymatic saccharification of biomass. Recently, spent mushroom substrates of edible mushrooms have been used as sources of bulk enzymes to decolorize synthetic dyes in textile wastewater. In this review, the occurrence, mode of action, general properties, and production of lignocellulytic enzymes from mushroom species will be discussed. We will also discuss the potential applications of these enzymes.

Does the SaaS Model Really Increase Customer Benefits?

  • Software as a service (SaaS) is one of the most-talked about trends in IT. Unlike traditional perpetual licensing model, software applications are sold on subscription bases and services are provided over web by the vendors. It is said that SaaS can make vendors to invest more on R&D than on marketing while offering its customers better quality software applications at lower costs. By empirically comparing vendors providing their software applications either by SaaS or by traditional perpetual licensing model, we examine whether or not SaaS really increases overall customer benefits in terms of cost efficiency, software quality, and customization. We show that SaaS may not provide better quality or cost efficient software applications than perpetual licensing does. Then we provide two practical tools which are useful for customers to evaluate whether SaaS is better than perpetual licensing for the purposes of software applications they want to adopt.

A Transportation Problem with Uncertain Truck Times and Unit Costs

  • Motivated by the emergency scheduling in a transportation network, this paper considers a transportation problem, in which, the truck times and transportation costs are assumed as uncertain variables. To meet the demand in the practical applications, two optimization objectives are considered, one is the total costs and another is the completion times. And then, a multi-objective optimization model is developed according to the situation in applications. Because there are commensurability and conflicting between the two objectives commonly, a solution does not necessarily exist that is best with respective to the two objectives. Therefore, the problem is reduced to a single objective model, which is an uncertain programming with a chance-constrain. After some analysis, its equivalent deterministic form is obtained, which is a nonlinear programming. Based on a stepwise optimization strategy, a solution method is developed to solve the problem. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.

  • In this paper, presented was the research work of finding practical application systems using IT that would be adopted by the next generation high speed train for the safety, convenience, and comfort of the passengers and crew members. Study on the applications using smart sensors and IT brought up 26 feasible application cases. Among them 16 cases were related with IT applications and 10 cases smart sensor applications. After having public hearings and surveys to make the decision more objective and generally acceptable, 7 applications - such as information providing service using personal LCD monitor, alarm service, individual internet access service, automatic and remote air conditioning, wireless visual communication with an attendant, extraordinary sound detection, urgent situation in toilet monitoring - out of those 26 were chosen as the final applications.

Exploring Determinants of Employees' Adoption of Enterprise 2.0 Applications: A Case of Enterprise Social Network

  • Nowadays, more and more organizations are implementing the USE' of emerging enterprise 2.0 applications consciously or unconsciously such as Blogs, Wikis, Social Networks, etc. However, as the end users, employee's attitude toward adoption of enterprise 2.0 applications still lacks theoretical support. On the other hand, many organizations which have implemented enterprise2.0 applications are confused about how to promote employees' use of enterprise 2.0 applications. The purpose of this study aims to provide a conceptual examination the determinants that affect employee's adoption of these enterprise2.0 applications using the revised UTAUT model. To test the model, structural equation modeling will be employed to analyze data collected from two organizations in which experimental tests of enterprise social network platforms are conducted. The findings of this research will show effective and reasonable ways of promoting employees' participations in an enterprise 2.0 environment so as to maximize the benefits generated from implementing enterprise 2.0 applications. This research will also provide a theoretical foundation for academics and practical implications for development of enterprise 2.0 applications.

Adoption of Mobile Peer-to-Peer Payment: Enabling Role of Substitution and Social Aspects

  • Despite the growing amount of mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) payment applications available on mobile app stores, these applications are still in their infancy and have yet to see mass adoption. This study aims to explore the factors that influence the adoption of such mobile P2P payment applications by using a large-scale data set based on the tracking of users' actual mobile application usage behavior. Our main findings reveal that the duration of each session that users use of traditional bank application has a significant relationship with their adoption of mobile P2P payment applications. In addition, we explore the social aspect of such mobile P2P payment applications by analyzing their social network applications usage and found that the amount of social network service applications used and usage duration positively impacted one's adoption of mobile P2P payment applications. These findings have important theoretical and practical implications for stakeholders of mobile P2P payment solution providers as well as intermediaries/banks who provide their own payment applications to their customers.

The Practical Application of Aqueous Two-Phase Processes for the Recovery of Biological Products

  • Although the generic implementation of aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) processes for the recovery of biological products has been exploited for several years, this has not resulted in a wide adoption of the technique. The main reasons involve the poor understanding of the mechanism governing phase formation and the behavior of solute partitioning in ATPS processes, the cost of phase forming polymers, and the necessary extended time to optimize the technique. In this review paper, some of the practical disadvantages attributed to ATPS are addressed. The practical approach exploited to design ATPS processes, the application to achieve process integration, the extended use for the recovery of high-value products, and the recent development of new low-cost ATPS, are discussed. It is proposed that the trend of the practical application of ATPS processes for the recovery of biological products will involve the purification of new high-value bioparticulate products with medical applications. Such a trend will give new impetus to the technique, and will draw attention from industries needing to develop new, and improve existing, commercial processes.

Magnetic Resonant Wireless Power Transfer with L-Shape Arranged Resonators for Laptop Computer

  • In this study, we designed, measured, and analyzed a rearranged L-shape magnetic resonance coupling wireless power transfer (MR-WPT) system for practical applications with laptops. The typical four resonator MR-WPT (Tx part: source loop and Tx coil; Rx part: Rx coil and load loop) is difficult to apply to small-sized stationary and mobile applications, such as laptop computers, tablet-PCs, and smartphones, owing to the large volume of the Rx part and the spatial restrictions of the Tx and Rx coils. Therefore, an L-shape structure, which is the orthogonal arrangement of the Tx and Rx parts, is proposed for indoor environment applications, such as at an L-shaped wall or desk. The relatively large Tx part and Rx coil can be installed in the wall and the desk, respectively, while the load loop is embedded in the small stationary or mobile devices. The transfer efficiency (TE) of the proposed system was measured according to the transfer distance (TD) and the misaligned locations of the load loop. In addition, we measured the TE in the active/non-active state and monitor-open/closed state of the laptop computer. The overall highest TE of the L-shape MR-WPT was 61.43% at 45 cm TD, and the TE decreased to 27.9% in the active and monitor-open state of the laptop computer. The conductive ground plane has a much higher impact on the performance when compared to the impact of the active/non-active states. We verified the characteristics and practical benefits of the proposed L-shape MR-WPT compared to the typical MR-WPT for applications to L-shaped corners.

Analysis of Cyclomatic Complexity for Web Application (웹 어플리케이션의 순환복잡도 분석)

  • Web applications have different structural characteristics from conventional applications with the structural language or object-oriented language or 4GL. A web application typically consists of server-side script elements which run on web sewers, client-side script elements which run on the client web-browser, HTML elements that contains context. Therefore web applications developer concurrently uses 3 or more development language. Cyclomatic Complexity for Web Application(CCWA) metrics reflected composite complexity of each element. In this paper, we applied cyclomatic complexity for web application metrics with Complexity level indicator to web application. We applied it to 10 web applications that were developed in practical business. High complexity web applications classify into four type(MENU, FORM, CTRL, GEN). This paper has contributed to practical use of engineering approach for web application.

  • Development of efficient methods for clean energy production became a critical issue to improve the quality of human lives. Solar cells is considered as one of the alternative solutions to resolve the issue. Although Si-based solar cells are only popularly utilized for practical applications, high manufacturing cost is considered as a serious drawback for further versatile applications. Thus, different types of are being investigated aiming to replace the Si-based solar cells. Recently, perovskite solar cells (PSC) are considered as a potential replacement for Si-based solar cells due to their low production cost, high power conversion efficiency, light weight and possibility of flexible device fabrication. Thus, we have reviewed the challenges of PSC faced with practical application, particularly on stability.
