A comparison study of the characteristics of private and public security service of Koryo dynasty and modern security service (고려시대 공적·사적경호의 특성과 현대경호와의 비교연구)

  • This study considers the characteristics of the separation of public and private security service during Koryo dynasty, and compares it with the modern security service. Modern day security service's definition of private and public security service was used to distinguish them. Given the different historical settings, it's difficult to argue that the distinction between public and private service during Koryo dynasty was clear, but it can be said that public security service was centered around palace guard and concerns the activities of protest, and military made for the relationship, and private security service was centered around power of DoBang and includes the activities of malingering, and Byolchogun. During the early days of Koryo, protest, district military and soldiers who stay in the palace were all parts of a palace revolt and this institutional improvement of soldiers who stay in the palace was accomplished during King Seongjong's rule. The tradition of a palace revolt can find its roots in the middle military, and after the unification, a palace revolt was reformed into the king's palace revolt of second and the 6th along the course of establishing the nation's system. All of the changes stem from the reformation for consolidating the royal authority. Gyung Dae Seoung wanted to protect himself and he slept with his army night and days and because of that, group of soldiers was created and it was called DOBANG. Some members were from dobang gyeonryong, The forced were powerful because it was gathered with a warriors with extraordinaire martial arts and competent management. Most of the soldiers followed gyeong dae seung because they believed that he has a strong leadership and loves his people, and had a strong faith in him. However, the general gyeong jang had a belief that politics must be reverted to the previous so the relationships between jungbang wasn't smooth. Because of the economic operational problems, due to fraud committed by the mens under his command failed to maintain integrity and was criticised.The misconception also fed up with the emperor and the deepening relationships between the soldiers, his dobang was dismantled. After he took over the dobang, for his personal safety and to strengthen his position he compensated gyeon dae seong's dobang and developed the organization. In the process of extending the dobang Choi chung heon recruited many talented people to strengthen the military base, and also accepted the advice and expanded the power of Dobang. Choi Chung Heon thus consolidated his political gains by weakening the power of the king's army and adjusting the myth, which could've threatened his regime, and this was called Dobang number 6th. Dobang number six got even more powerful by his son named Choi woo, and after ruling, he expanded into a room, and a substantial reorganization of Dobang was developed. And then the creation of yabyeolcho also showed the effect to prevent the crisis. Although the palace guards who were public security service of Koryo Dynasty was still maintained during the military rule era when the royal authority was incapacitated, it was only maintained to have a symbolic meaning as the actual authority including military power was with Choi, the master of Dobang, private security service group. Likewise, during the rule of Choi, private securty service could reign over public security service, and the noteworthy characteristic of Dobang is that it assisted the private soldier groups to seize the military power by reorganizing and modifying military system. Although both differences and similarities can be found when comparing the guards of Koryo Dynasty with those of contemporary society, they have a similarity in terms of the essence of guards that they guarantee the safety of their clients. As for differences, the royalty of Koryo Dynasty and the pursuit of profit of contemporary society are in contrast, and contemporary guards can be seen as the fulfillment of responsibility and duty by free will, whereas guards of Koryo Dynasty were ruled with military coercion.

Nonthermal Plasma-assisted Diesel Reforming and Injection of the Reformed Gas into a Diesel Engine for Clean Combustion (디젤의 청정연소를 위한 저온 플라즈마 연료개질 및 개질가스의 디젤엔진 첨가에 관한 연구)

  • A nonthermal plasma-assisted fuel reformer was developed and the effects of operating variables on the performance of this reformer were studied. The $H_2$-rich reformed gas from the reformer was injected into a diesel engine under an idle condition and the effects of the amount of injected gas on the NO and soot reduction were investigated. It was found that with increasing electric power consumption, the degree of facility of ignition of the reforming reaction in the reformer could be enhanced. The performance of the reformer including $H_2$ concentration, $H_2$ recovery, and energy conversion was affected only by the O/C mole ratio. This was because the equilibrium reaction temperature was governed by the O/C mole ratio. With increasing O/C mole ratio, the $H_2$ recovery and energy conversion passed through the maximum values of 33.4% and 66%, respectively, at an O/C mole ratio between 1.2 and 1.5. The reason why the $H_2$ recovery and energy conversion increased with increasing O/C mole ratio when the O/C mole ratio was lower than $1.2{\sim}1.5$ appeared to be that the complete oxidation reaction occurred more enough with increasing O/C mole ratio in this low O/C mole ratio range and accordingly the reaction temperature increased. Whereas the reason why the $H_2$ recovery and energy conversion decreased with increasing O/C mole ratio when the O/C mole ratio was higher than $1.2{\sim}1.5$ appeared to be that the complete oxidation reaction was further advanced and the $H_2$ recovery and energy conversion decreased. As the weight ratio of reformed diesel to total diesel which entered the diesel engine was increased to $18.2{\sim}23.5%$, NO and soot reduction efficiencies increased and reached as values high as 68.5% and 23.5%, respectively.

Oxidation of Isopropyl Alcohol in Air by a Catalytic Plasma Reactor System (촉매-플라즈마 반응 시스템을 이용한 아이소프로필 알코올 산화)

  • A catalytic plasma reactor was employed for the oxidation of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) classified as a volatile organic compound (VOC). Copper oxide (Cu : 0.5% (w/w)) supported on a multichannel porous ceramic consisting of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was used as a catalyst, which was directly exposed to the plasma created in it. The effects of discharge voltage and reaction temperature on the concentrations of IPA and its byproducts were examined to understand the behavior of the catalytic plasma reactor. Without thermal insulation, the reactor temperature increased up to $120^{\circ}C$ at an applied voltage of 17 kV (discharge power : 28 W), and the IPA at a flow rate of $1L\;min^{-1}$ ($O_2$ : 10% (v/v); IPA : 1000 ppm) was completely removed. At temperatures below $120^{\circ}C$, however, besides the desirable product $CO_2$, several unwanted byproducts such as acetone, formaldehyde and CO were also formed from IPA. On the other hand, when the reactor was thermally insulated, the plasma discharge increased the temperature up to $265^{\circ}C$ under the same condition and most of IPA was oxidized to $CO_2$. Without loading CuO on the ceramic support, the plasma discharge in the thermally insulated reactor produced nearly equal amounts of $CO_2$ and CO. On comparison, with the catalyst alone (temperature : $265^{\circ}C$), more than 70% of the removed IPA was simply converted into another type of VOC (acetone), indicating that the catalyst assisted by the plasma is more effective in the oxidation of IPA than that of the catalyst-alone process.

Studies on Fabrication and Characteristics of $Al_{0.3}Ga_0.7N/GaN$ Heterojunction Field Effect Transistors for High-Voltage and High-Power Applications (고전압과 고전력 응용을 위한 $Al_{0.3}Ga_0.7N/GaN$ 이종접합 전계효과 트랜지스터의 제작 및 특성에 관한 연구)

  • We report on the fabrication and characterization of $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$ HFETs with different barrier layer thickness which were grown using plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PAMBE). The barrier thickness of $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN HFETs could be optimized in order to maximize 2 dimensional electron gas induced by piezoelectric effect without the relaxation of $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$ layer. $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN (20 nm/2 mm) HFET with 0.6 ${\mu}m$-long and 34 ${\mu}m$-wide gate shows saturated current density ($V_{gs}=1\;V$) of 1.155 A/mm and transconductance of 250 ms/mm, respectively. From high frequency measurement, the fabricated $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN HFETs showed $F_t=13$ GHz and $F_{max}=48$ GHz, respectively. The uniformity of less than 5% could be obtained over the 2 inch wafer. In addition to the optimization of epi-layer structure, the relation between breakdown voltage and high frequency characteristics has been examined.

A Whole Genome Association Study to Detect Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms for Carcass Traits in Hanwoo Populations

  • The purpose of this study was to detect significant SNPs for carcass quality traits using DNA chips of high SNP density in Hanwoo populations. Carcass data of two hundred and eighty nine steers sired by 30 Korean proven sires were collected from two regions; the Hanwoo Improvement Center of National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in Seosan, Chungnam province and the commercial farms in Gyeongbuk province. The steers in Seosan were born between spring and fall of 2006 and those in Gyeonbuk between falls of 2004 and 2005. The former steers were slaughtered at approximately 24 months, while the latter steers were fed six months longer before slaughter. Among the 55,074 SNPs in the Illumina bovine 50K chip, a total of 32,756 available SNPs were selected for whole genome association study. After adjusting for the effects of sire, region and slaughter age, phenotypes were regressed on each SNP using a simple linear regression model. For the significance threshold, 0.1% point-wise p value from F distribution was used for each SNP test. Among the significant SNPs for a trait, the best set of SNP markers were selected using a stepwise regression procedure, and inclusion and exclusion of each SNP out of the model was determined at the p<0.001 level. A total of 118 SNPs were detected; 15, 20, 22, 28, 20, and 13 SNPs for final weight before slaughter, carcass weight, backfat thickness, weight index, longissimus dorsi muscle area, and marbling score, respectively. Among the significant SNPs, the best set of 44 SNPs was determined by stepwise regression procedures with 7, 9, 6, 9, 7, and 6 SNPs for the respective traits. Each set of SNPs per trait explained 20-40% of phenotypic variance. The number of detected SNPs per trait was not great in whole genome association tests, suggesting additional phenotype and genotype data are required to get more power to detect the trait-related SNPs with high accuracy for estimation of the SNP effect. These SNP markers could be applied to commercial Hanwoo populations via marker-assisted selection to verify the SNP effects and to improve genetic potentials in successive generations of the Hanwoo populations.

A whole genome sequence association study of muscle fiber traits in a White Duroc×Erhualian F2 resource population

  • Objective: Muscle fiber types, numbers and area are crucial aspects associated with meat production and quality. However, there are few studies of pig muscle fibre traits in terms of the detection power, false discovery rate and confidence interval precision of whole-genome quantitative trait loci (QTL). We had previously performed genome scanning for muscle fibre traits using 183 microsatellites and detected 8 significant QTLs in a White Duroc×Erhualian F2 population. The confidence intervals of these QTLs ranged between 11 and 127 centimorgan (cM), which contained hundreds of genes and hampered the identification of QTLs. A whole-genome sequence imputation of the population was used for fine mapping in this study. Methods: A whole-genome sequences association study was performed in the F2 population. Genotyping was performed for 1,020 individuals (19 F0, 68 F1, and 933 F2). The whole-genome variants were imputed and 21,624,800 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified and examined for associations to 11 longissimus dorsi muscle fiber traits. Results: A total of 3,201 significant SNPs comprising 7 novel QTLs showing associations with the relative area of fiber type I (I_RA), the fiber number per square centimeter (FN) and the total fiber number (TFN). Moreover, one QTL on pig chromosome 14 was found to affect both FN and TFN. Furthermore, four plausible candidate genes associated with FN (kinase non-catalytic C-lobe domain containing [KNDC1]), TFN (KNDC1), and I_RA (solute carrier family 36 member 4, contactin associated protein like 5, and glutamate metabotropic receptor 8) were identified. Conclusion: An efficient and powerful imputation-based association approach was utilized to identify genes potentially associated with muscle fiber traits. These identified genes and SNPs could be explored to improve meat production and quality via marker-assisted selection in pigs.

Comparison of Dry Etching of AlGaAs/GaAs in High Density Inductively Coupled $BCl_3$ based Plasmas ($BCl_3$에 기초한 고밀도 유도결합 플라즈마에 의한 AlGaAs/GaAs 건식식각 비교)

  • 플라즈마 공정은 DRAM, 이종접합 양극성 트랜지스터(HBTs), 레이저, 평면도파로(planar lightwave circuit)와 같은 전자소자 및 광조자 제작에 있어서 핵심 공정중의 하나이다. 최근 미세 구조의 크기가 극도로 감소하게 됨에 따라 실제 소작 제작에 있어서 미세한 모양을 식각하는 공정이 매우 중요하게 되었다. 그 중에서 고밀도 유도결합 플라즈마(high density inductively coupled plasma)를 이용한 기술은 빠르고 정확한 식각률, 우수한 식각 균일도와 높은 재현성 때문에 습식식각 기술보다 선호되고 있다. 본 연구는 평판형(planar) 고밀도 유도결합 플라즈마 식각장치를 이용하여 BCl$_3$와 BCl$_3$/Ar 플라즈마에 따른 AlGaAs/GaAs의 식각결과를 비교 분석하였다. 공정 변수는 ICP 소스(source power)파워, RIE 척(chuck) 파워, 공정 압력, 그리고 Ar 조성비(0-100%)이었다. BCl$_3$에 Ar을 첨가하게 되면 순수한 BCl$_3$ 플라즈마에서의 AlGaAs/GaAs 식각률(> 3000 $\AA$/min) 보다 분당 약 1000$\AA$ 이상 높은 식각률(>4000 $\AA$/min)을 나타내었다. 이 결과는 Ar 플라즈마의 이온보조(ion-assisted)가 식각률 증가에 기인한다고 예측된다. 그리고 전자주사 현미경(SEM)과 원자력간 현미경(AFM)을 사용하여 식각 후 표면 거칠기 및 수직 측벽도 둥을 분석하였다. 마지막으로 XPS를 이용하여 식각된 후에 표면에 남아 있는 잔류 성분 분석을 연구하였다. 본 결과를 종합하면 BCl$_3$에 기초한 평판형 유도결합 플라즈마는 AlGaAs/GaAs 구조의 식각시 많은 우수한 특성을 보여주었다.79$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.016$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 혼합재료 2는 0.045$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.014$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 혼합재료 3은 0.123$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.017$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 혼합재료 4는 0.055$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.016$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 혼합재료 5는 0.031$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.015$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 혼합재료 6은 0.111$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$, 0.020$\ell/\textrm{cm}^3$로 나타났다. 3. 단일재료의 악취흡착성능 실험결과 암모니아는 코코넛, 소나무수피, 왕겨에서 흡착능력이 우수하게 나타났으며, 황화수소는 펄라이트, 왕겨, 소나무수피에서 다른 재료에 비하여 상대적으로 우수한 것으로 나타났으며, 혼합충진재는 암모니아의 경우 코코넛과 펄라이트의 비율이 70%:30%인 혼합재료 3번과 소나무수피와 펄라이트의 비율이 70%:30%인 혼합재료 6번에서 다른 혼합재료에 비하여 우수한 것으로 나타났으며, 황화수소의 경우 혼합재료에 따라 약간의 차이를 보였다. 4. 코코넛과 소나무수피의 경우 암모니아가스에 대한 흡착성능은 거의 비슷한 것으로 사료되며, 코코넛의 경우 전량을 수입에 의존하고 있다는 점에서 국내 조달이 용이하며, 구입 비용도 적게 소요되는 소나무수피를 사용하는 것이 경제적이라고 사료된다. 5. 마지막으로 악취제거 미생물균주를 접종한 소나무수피 70%와 펄라이트 30%의 혼합재료를 24시간동안 장기간 운전

Total Polyphenol Content and Antioxidative Activity of Wild Grape (Vitis coignetiae) Extracts Depending on Ethanol Concentrations (에탄올 농도에 따른 머루(Wild Grape, Vitis coignetiae) 추출물의 폴리페놀 함량 및 항산화 활성)

  • As an oriental medicinal plant, wild grape (WG, Vitis coignetiae) has been known to contain abundant nutrients compared to grape (Vitis vinifera L.) and as a source of stilbenes, a kind of polyphenol. This study was performed to investigate the antioxidative activity of WG extracts by measuring electron donating ability (EDA), nitrite scavenging ability (NSA), super oxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity and total polyphenol content (TPC). The extracts were obtained using microwave-assisted extraction (microwave power: 90 W, extraction time: 5 min, extractant: water, 50 and 100% ethanol). EDAs, SOD-like activities and TPCs were the highest at 50% ethanol extracts while conversely lowest at 100% ethanol extracts. EDAs of 50% and 100% ethanol extracts at 1.6 g/dL concentration, $97.70{\pm}0.55\;and\;98.05{\pm}0.36%$, were higher than those of 0.1 and 1% L-ascorbic acids, $101.44{\pm}0.98%\;and\;99.43{\pm}0.78%$, respectively. At the concentration of 1.6 g/dL, 50% ethanol extract showed lower NSA (pH 1.2) than water extract unlike EDA, TPC and SOD-like activity. Regarding TPCs of WG extracts, the activities were the highest at 50% ethanol extracts (1.6 g/dL: $38.76{\pm}0.23$ mM gallic acid equiv.) followed by water and 100% ethanol extracts. The results suggest the usefulness of developing functional foods using antioxidative active compounds of WG with high polyphenol contents.

  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. Design and Control of Hybrid a Powered Wheelchair for the Elderly (고령자를 위한 하이브리드형 전동 휠체어의 설계 및 제어)

  • This paper describes the development of a hybrid-powered wheelchair (HPW) for the elderly. The proposed HPW has novel mechanical and control features compared with conventional powered wheelchairs. An ergonomic back-braking mechanism was designed in order to stop the wheels easily. In terms of control features, the HPW remarkably reduces the muscle power required by combining various assistive functions, such as wheel torque assistance, friction/inertia compensation, gravity compensation, and the one-hand driving algorithm. For wheel torque assistance, strain gauges were attached to the hand-rim in order to measure the wheel torque applied by a human. Gyroscopes and an accelerometer were attached to the wheel and chair respectively for friction and inertia compensation. An inclinometer was attached for gravity compensation and the one-hand driving algorithm was included for patients who can only use one hand. The one-hand driving algorithm controls the angular velocity of the uncontrolled wheel by using a gyroscope and pressure sensors attached to the bottom of the seat. Finally, the performance of the proposed motion assisted algorithm was verified through various experiments.
