Transient stabilization with voltage regulation is investigated for a synchronous generator when the mechanical power is perturbed to any unknown value within its physical bounds so that the operating point of the system shifts to an unknown point. An adaptive excitation controller is designed based on the backstepping method with tuning functions. It will be shown that the adaptive control law proposed can achieve the convergence of the system states to the new equilibrium point in correspondence with the real value of the unknown mechanical power and the regulation of the terminal voltage to the required value. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller for the transient stabilization and voltage regulation.
This paper deals with a parallel processing uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for sudden voltage fluctuation in computer applications to integrate power quality improvement, load voltage stabilization and UPS. To reduce the complexity, cost and number of power conversions, which results in higher efficiency, only one voltage-controlled voltage source inverter (VCVSI) is used. The system provides sinusoidal voltage at the fundamental value of 220V/60Hz for the load during abnormal utility power conditions or grid failure. Also, the system can be operated to mitigate the harmonic current and voltage demand from nonlinear loads and provide voltage stabilization for loads when sudden voltage fluctuation occur, such as sag and swell. System operation simulation demonstrates that the system protects against outages caused by abnormal utility power conditions and sudden voltage fluctuations and changes.
The role of Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) is to generate a power and distribute it to the electrical devices for the system operation. For on-orbit operation of cube satellite, it is also necessary to supply power to on-board mission devices as commercial satellite does. Recently, commercial EPS products dedicated for the cube satellite application has been developed and widely used for the power subsystem design. In this paper, a permanent magnet attitude stabilization method without external power has been introduced because it has advantage from power consumption point of view and the EPS design of cube satellite by applying the commercial EPS products has been introduced and investigated. This paper also deals with the specification of the commercial EPS products for the beginner of the cube satellite design.
In this paper, a robust $H_{\infty}$ controller, based on the Riccati equation approach, is proposed for HVDC power system with parametric uncertainties. Bounds of power system parametric uncertainties are included in Riccati equation to improve the robustness of controller. The proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller for the stabilization of HVDC power system can ensure that the overall system is asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties. Simulation results show that the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller can achieve good performance in presence of uncertainties of power system.
The rising penetration of renewable energy resulted in the development of grid-connected large-scale power plants. Therefore, grid stabilization, which depends on the system-type or grid of each country, plays an important role and has been strengthened by different grid codes. With this background, VDE-AR-N 4105 for photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the low-voltage grid and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) introduced the medium-voltage grid code for connecting power plants to the grid and they are the most stringent certifications. In this paper, an optimal control strategy scheme for three-phase grid-connected PV system is enhanced with VDE-AR-N 4105 and BDEW grid code, where both active/reactive powers are controlled. Simulation and experimental results of 100kW PV inverter are shown to verify the effectiveness of the proposed implemental control strategy.
Stabilization of electric power is the most important thing is such place as computing center having business critical equipment. However, ability to cope with electrical quality shift and power failure is very weak from UPS output side to load in those electricity system, though UPS is generally used for power stabilization. this problem can be solved by duplication of power source using newly configured UPS and small sized transfer switch even in case of UPS failure.
Many nonlinear controllers for the power system are based on nonlinear models involving the power angle as an element of the state, and therefore the reference value for the power angle is needed. As this reference value is not generally available, it is difficult to apply such nonlinear control methods in practice. To deal with this problem, we present an input-output feedback linearizing control scheme by selecting the output as a combination of the squared voltage and the relative frequency. It is shown that the internal dynamics are locally stable with controllable damping, and that the frequency remains bounded for all time. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
This paper presents a decentralized quadratic regulation architecture with feedforward neural networks for the control problem of complex systems. In this method, the decentralized technique was used to treat several simple subsystems instead of a full complex system in order to reduce training time of neural networks, and the neural networks' nonlinear mapping ability is exploited to handle the nonlinear interaction variables between subsystems. The decentralized regulating architecture is composed of local neuro-controllers, local neuro-identifiers and an overall interaction neuro-identifier. With the interaction neuro-identifier that catches interaction characteristics, a local neuro-identifier is trained to simulate a subsystem dynamics. A local neuro-controller is trained to learn how to control the subsystem by using generalized Backprogation Through Time(BTT) algorithm. The proposed neural network based decentralized regulating scheme is applied in the power System Stabilization(PSS) control problem for an imterconnected power system, and compared with that by a conventional centralized LQ regulator for the power system.
The auxiliary power supply system fur passenger service of railway car has been developed from MA(Motor-Alternator) to CVCF Inverter (Static Inverter). Generally, a customer wants to apply tile new control method and device for auxiliary power supply of railcar However, if the auxiliary power supply is supplied to extended existing line, the maintenance cost of the old system is less expensive than new developed system, so, the customer specifies that the auxiliary power supply has compatibility with existing one completely. At that time, the hardware is nearly same as existing system except small changes of accessories for better performance. This paper describes the flicker control using feed-forward method of auxiliary power supply system for new 50 electric railcars, which are delivered to Korean National Railroad (KNR) Kwa-chon Line. The existing power supply system has damping resistor box to stabilize the DC input (1.5 ㎸). At this time, for better system efficiency the new system has not include resistor box but new control method including feed-forward control is applied. This control algorithm realizes the better stabilization of input power compared to the result of the existing system, which includes resistor box
Korean Power System are operating a load shedding system to prevent voltage instability phenomenon caused by severe line contingencies. In order to apply the load shedding scheme should be selected a location, amount, delay time. Current load shedding system is load shedding amount that has been calculated in the steady-state analysis to load shed the total amount in first level, load shedding amount calculated in advance, it is possible to perform an unnecessary load shedding. In this paper, set a multi-level load shedding control strategy step-by-step selection of load shedding amount for the prevention of excessive load shedding. In addition, through a voltage resilience analysis of the power system by applying motor load ratio and sensitivity parameter to selection the multi level load shedding ratio and delay time. For this reason, to take advantage of the limit data of interchange power, by utilizing interface power flow data to set a multi-level load shedding control strategy for the stabilization of the Korean Power System.
