This paper proposes an alternative method to evaluate the effect of wind power to the power system stability with small disturbance. Alternatively, available techniques for stability analysis of a power system based on deterministic methods are less accurate for high penetration of wind power. Numerical simulations of random behaviors are computationally expensive. A stochastic stability index (SSI) is proposed for the power system stability evaluation based on the theory of stochastic stability and energy function, specifically the stochastic derivative of the relative well-defined energy function and the critical energy. The SSI is implemented on the modified nine-bus system including wind turbines under different conditions. A doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine is characterized and modeled using measured wind data from several sites in Thailand. Each of the obtained wind power data is analyzed. The wind power effect is modeled considering the aggregated effect of wind turbines. With the proposed method, the system behavior is properly predicted and the stability is quantitatively evaluated with less computational effort compared with conventional numerical simulation methods.
In this paper, we have simulated the transient stability of power system with dynamic loads. Dynamic load characteristics have an important influence on power system stability. In study of power system stability, motors form a major portion of the system loads. Induction motors and synchronous motors in particular form the workhorse of the electric power industry. Therefore modelling of motors is important in system stability. We investigate the effect of motors loads of Kwang Yang network with three phase fault.

Power system stability is correlated with system structure, disturbances and operating conditions, and power flows on transmission lines are closely related with those conditions. This paper proposes a methodology to identify correlative power flows for power system transient and small-signal stability prediction. In transient stability sense, the Critical Clearing Time is used to select some dominant contingencies, and Transient Stability Prediction index is proposed for the quantitative comparison. For small-signal stability, this paper discusses a methodology to identify crucial transmission lines for stability Prediction by introducing a sensitivity factor based on eigenvalue sensitivity technique. On-line monitoring of the selected lines enables to predict system stability in real-time. Also, a Procedure to make a priority list of monitored transmission lines is proposed. The procedure is applied to a test system and the KEPCO systems in the year of 2003 and it shows capabilities of the proposed method

Deregulations and market practices in power industry have brought great challenges to the system planning area. In particular, they introduce a variety of uncertainties to system planning. New techniques are required to cope with such uncertainties. As a promising approach, probabilistic methods are attracting more and more attentions by system planners. In small signal stability analysis, generation control parameters play an important role in determining the stability margin. The objective of this paper is to investigate power system state matrix sensitivity characteristics with respect to system parameter uncertainties with analytical and numerical approaches and to identify those parameters have great impact on system eigenvalues, therefore, the system stability properties. Those identified parameter variations need to be investigated with priority. The results can be used to help Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and Independent System Operators (ISOs) perform planning studies under the open access environment.

In power system operation, the stability of synchronous machine has been recognized one of the most important things. AESOPS program developed by EPRI in U.S.A. is a frequency domain analysis program in power system stability and it computes the electro-mechanical oscillation mode. This paper presents how to analyze the power system small signal stability problem efficiently by uusing the AESOPS program and analyze the various factors affecting the damping characteristics of these oscillations in KEPCO power system of 1986 with pumped-storage plant. To reduce the computing time and efforts, selecting the poorly-damped oscillation mode and clustering technique have been used. The characteristics of load, the amount of power flow on the transmission line and the gain of exciter have a significant effects on the damping of the system while the governing system has only a minor one. With the Power System Stabilizers, the stability of the power system has been improved.

In this paper, the method for effective stability analysis of Jeju power system in 2011 is proposed. The stability analysis of Jeju power system was carried out by using proposed method In case of Jeju power system with wind turbine generators or without wind turbine generators, including CSC HVDC or VSC HVDC. The steady-state stability is validated by SCR and ESCR, PV curve, QV curve. And the transient stability is analyzed by CCT(Critical Clearing Time). VSC HVDC has more advantages than CSV HVDC on the stability. Also, Jeju power system without wind turbine generators has more advantages than Jeju power system with Wind Turbine Generators on the stability.

The purpose of this paper is to assess experimentally system stability of the 154 ㎸ transmission system due to the current of the forthcoming AC High-Speed Railway (HSR) era. It introduces a simple method to evaluate the system stability The proposed method also shows the relationship between stability and power losses, and the stability indices made by the numerical process proposed in this paper will be used to assess whether a system can be stabilized or not. This paper also presents the improvement of the stability via loss reduction using STATCOM. Reactive power compensation is often the most effective way to improve both power transfer capability and system stability. The suitable modeling of the electric railway system should be applicable to the PSS/E. In the case study the proposed method is tested on a practical system of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) which will be expected to accommodate the heavy HSR load. Furthermore, it prove that the compensation of voltage drop and its by-product, loss reduction is closely related to improvement of system stability.

Power transfer capability has been recently highlighted as a key issue in many utilities. It is determined by the thermal stability, dynamic stability and voltage stability limits of generation and transmission systems. In particular, voltage stability affects power transfer capability to a great extent in many power systems. This paper presents a tool for determining total transfer capability from a static voltage stability viewpoint using IPLAN, which is a high level language used with the PSS/E program. The tool was developed so as to analyze static voltage stability and to determine the total transfer capability between different areas from a static voltage stability viewpoint by tracing stationary behaviors of power systems. A unified power flow controller (UPFC) is applied for enhancing total transfer capability between different areas from the viewpoint of static voltage stability. Evaluation of the total transfer capability of a practical KEPCO power system is performed from the point of view of static voltage stability, and the effect of enhancing the total transfer capability by UPFC is analyzed.
This paper presents a stability analysis of AC-DC power system feeding a speed controlled DC motor in which this load behaves as a constant power load (CPL). A CPL can significantly degrade power system stability margin. Hence, the stability analysis is very important. The DQ and generalized state-space averaging methods are used to derive the mathematical model suitable for stability issues. The paper analyzes the stability of power systems for both speed control natural frequency and DC-link parameter variations and takes into account controlled speed motor dynamics. However, accurate DC-link filter and DC motor parameters are very important for the stability study of practical systems. According to the measurement errors and a large variation in a DC-link capacitor value, the system identification is needed to provide the accurate parameters. Therefore, the paper also presents the identification of system parameters using the adaptive Tabu search technique. The stability margins can be then predicted via the eigenvalue theorem with the resulting dynamic model. The intensive time-domain simulations and experimental results are used to support the theoretical results.
