A beam steering system of X-band 2-D phased array antenna for radar application is developed. The beam steering system consists of real-time command generator, beam steering unit, control PCB of array module and power supply. It plays a role of beam steering and on-line check of phased array antenna. The performance of beam steering system is verified with pulse timing of current control in phase shifters and measurement of far-field of phased array antenna. The developed beam steering system offers basic technology to develop full-scale beam steering system of multi-function radar.
The focus of this research is to set up and describe the mathematical derivation of an automobile power-assisted rack and pinion steering system dynamics. The mathematical model of the power steering system dynamics with a 5 DOF linear vehicle model will be used in the computer simulation and evaluated comparing with the experimental results. This model is flexible to accommodate different vehicles through simple parameter changes. The developed mathematical model will attempt to provide enhanced driver realism to a Systems Technology, Inc. driving SIMulator(STISIM).
This paper describes the attributes, performance and development status of a high performance capacitive torque sensor intended for use in a electric power steering (EPS) system. The EPS system is composed of torque sensor, ECU, motor, gears and etc. Among the elements, torque sensor in the steering column is one of the core technologies. The new capacitive torque sensor in this paper is developed differently from working principle and mechanical structure compare to extant torque sensors in market and patent. Based on the result of numerical analysis, a experimental equipment is made which is composed of a test jig and a capacitive sensor and validity of numerical analysis and feasibility of the torque sensor are verified.
This paper validates new type electric power steering (EPS) system which is driven by a uni-direction rotational motor and two electromagnetic clutches. The assist motor of the new type EPS produces a torque for assisting the steering in only one direction and two electromagnetic clutches transmit the assist torque to the pinion gear in either left or right direction with respect to the steering rotation. In order to evaluate the static and dynamic characteristics of the new type EPS, the EPS has been modeled by using the well known customized software such as MSC.ADAMS and MSC.CarSim. The ADAMS software has been used to investigate the static characteristics of the proposed system. ADAMS, however, can not describe dynamics of a vehicle and perform the simulation under the various road conditions. Thus the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle including the EPS are analyzed very well by using the CarSim software. A sinusoidal steering input command is applied to the propose EPS system in order to evaluate the static characteristics, while the double lane changes are applied to the vehicle with the EPS in order to evaluate the dynamic performance. Through a series of simulations, we can conclude that the propose EPS shows the stable dynamic characteristics when the rotational direction is changed.
Recent, The propeller had high performance according as high performance of small ship. So, We has the development for azimuth thrusters. This Paper has structure improvement of steering support flange in azimuth thrusters. Steering support flange is very important part. because, Steering support flange supports all weight of azimuth thrusters. We has static & dynamic analysis of Steering support flange, and we discover the very safety. So, We has optimum design for the cost reduction. The first method of optimum design, We has the thickness reduce to 30mm from 5mm. Next method of optimum design, We had added stiffener. And we has the structure & dynamic behavior analysis. We had to dynamic behavior analysis. The first, We had to modal analysis. The result of 1st-modal analysis is that original model had to 76.48hz and new model had to 200.9hz. The second, We had to harmonic analysis. The result, We gave the thrust power to steering support flange. and We had to frequency analysis to $0{\sim}500hz$. The result, Deflection ration reduce to 16.64.
This research is conducted to develop an automatic steering system for parallel parking, and the performance of the system was evaluated by parallel parking a conventional vehicle. The automatic steering system consisted of MDPS (motor driven power steering) to control steering, ESC (electronic stability control) to acquire wheel speed, ultrasonic sensors to recognize the parking space, and a controller to communicate and handle data. The parallel parking process using the automatic steering control consisted of parking space recognition, parking path generation, and parking path tracking. The path for parallel parking was generated based on a kinematic model of a conventional vehicle, and a PI controller was used to control the steering angle for path tracking. Parallel parking using the automatic steering control was conducted according to vehicle speed conditions. The results show that the errors on the x-axis and y-axis were below 0.54 m and 0.14 m, respectively, and the error on the steering angle was less than $1^{\circ}$. Therefore, it is possible to implement parallel parking using an automatic steering control system for conventional vehicles.
ISO 26262 is an international standard for the functional safety of electric and electronic systems in vehicles, and this standard has become a major issue in the automotive industry. In this paper, a functional safety compliant electronic control unit (ECU) for an electric power steering (EPS) system and a demonstration purposed EPS system are developed, and a software and hardware structure for a safety critical system is presented. EPS is the most recently introduced power steering technology for vehicles, and it can improve driver’s convenience and fuel efficiency. In conformity with the design process specified in ISO 26262, the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) of an EPS system is evaluated, and hardware and software are designed based on an asymmetric dual processing unit architecture and an external watchdog. The developed EPS system effectively demonstrates the fault detection and diagnostic functions of a functional safety compliant ECU as well as the basic EPS functions.
It is well known that most power steering systems obtain the power by a hydraulic mechanism. Therefore, it consumes more energy because the oil power should be sustained all the times. Recently, to solve this problem the Electric Power System(EPS) or Motor Driven Power System(MDPS) has widely equipped in passenger vehicles. In this research the concurrent simulation technique for an EPS system with MATLAB/SIMULINK and a full vehicle model has been developed. The dynamic responses of vehicle chassis and steering system are evaluated. Then, a full vehicle model interacted with EPS control is concurrently simulated with an impulsive steering wheel torque input to analyze the stability of 'free control' or hands free motion for SUV. This integrated method allows engineers to reduce the prototype testing cost and to shorten the developing period.
This study reviews the rear or tag axle steering system's concepts and technology applied to commercial vehicles. Most commercial vehicles are large in size with more than two axles. Maneuvering them around tight corners, narrow roads, and spaces is a difficult job if only the front axle is steerable. Furthermore, wear and tear in tires will increase as turn angle and number of axles are increased. This problem can be solved using rear axle steering technology that is being used in commercial vehicles nowadays. Rear axle steering system technology uses a cylinder mounted on one of rear axles called a steering cylinder. Cylinder control is the primary objective of the real axle steering system. There are two types of such steering mechanisms. One uses master and slave cylinder concept while the other concept is relatively new. It goes by the name of smart axle, self-steered axle, or smart steering axle driven independently from the front wheel steering. All these different types of steering mechanisms are discussed in this study with detailed description, advantages, disadvantages, and safety considerations.
Most power steering systems work by using a hydraulic system to turn the vehicle's wheels. The pressure is usually provided by a hydraulic pump driven by the vehicle's engine. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder applies a force to the steering gear, which in turn applies a torque to the steering axis of the road wheels. The flow to the cylinder is controlled by valves operated by the steering wheel ; the more torque the driver applies to the steering wheel and the shaft it is attached to, the more fluid the valves allow through to the cylinder, and so the more force is applied to steer the wheels in the appropriate direction. Since the pumps employed are of the positive displacement type, the flow rate they deliver is directly proportional to the speed of the engine. And for a long time, the type of hydraulic pump pulley was boss welding type. But recently, monolith type driving pulley is widely used. Therefore in this paper we studied the safety of monolith type driving pulley to the extracting force and endurance by FEM analysis and experiments.
