In this paper, the optimal pump light power of optical phase conjugator (OPC) and the compensation characteristics of distorted WDM channel signals are numerically investigated, when the OPC with highly-nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) not be placed at the mid-way of total transmission length. The total dispersion of former half section and latter half section is assumed to be same each other in this approach. It is confirmed that, in WDM transmission systems with OPC deviated from the mid-way, the pump light power for best compensation must be flexible selected depending on the OPC position. This optimal pump light power is gradually increased as the OPC is gradually closer to the receiver. Consequently, it is possible to establish the compensation system independent on the OPC position by setting optimal pump light power connected with the OPC position.
In this paper, a new test criterion for binary decision problems is proposed. The integrated power flunction over a parameter interval is first itroduced as an extension of the power function. The concept of the most integrated powerful (MIP) test based on the integrated power function is then introduced. The MIP criterion is to masimize the value of the integrated power function in any paricular parameter interval. As an applicationof the MIP test, the known signal detection problem is considered. The test statistic of the MIP detector for known signals is obtained and an approximation to the MIP test statistic is also considered.

A new method based on the alternating conditional expectation (ACE) algorithm is developed to calculate axial shape index (ASI) for the 3-level excore detector. The ACE algorithm, a type of non-parametric regression algorithms, yields an optimal relationship between a dependent variable and multiple independent variables. In this study, the simple correlation between ASI and excore detector signals is developed using the Younggwang nuclear power plant unit 3 (YGN-3) data without any preprocessing on the relationships between independent variables and dependent variable. The numerical results show that simple correlations exist between the three excore signals and ASI of the core. The accuracy of the new method is much better than those of the current CPC and COLSS algorithms.
The purpose of this study is to show how to eliminate the noises and to obtain the data related with the relationship between AE signal characteristics and mechanical behaviors for the pressure vessel steel. Various kinds of noises are introduced into the AE data in the course of experiments. Accordingly, real AE data have to be obtained after tests. AE test was carried out under four point bending load. Among AE signals, counts and signal strength are used to find out the differences of AE characteristics between the basemetal and weldment. After tests, this paper shows the procedures of filtering the noises against basemetal of the pressure vessel steel to obtain the real data around crack tip. Relationships between plastic zone size and cumulative AE counts are shown also. AE signals were absent within an elastic region, regardless of the specimens. Most of AE signals are produced in the process of plastic deformation. The deformation and fracture modes of basemetal and weldment are quiet different.
In order to extract only the alpha activity related signals from EEG recordings, we have applied Constrained Independent Component Analysis (cICA), a new extension of ICA in which some a priori knowledge of the alpha activity is utilized to extract only desired components. Its extraction (or filtering) performance has been compared to that of the conventional band-pass filtering via the scalp alpha power maps and cortical source maps of the alpha activity. Our results demonstrate that the alpha power maps and cortical source maps from the cICA-extracted alpha signals reveal more focalized alpha generating regions of the brain than those from the band-pass filtered alpha EEG signals. Furthermore they match more closely the activated regions of the brain mapped using fMRI, validating our results. We believe that the cICA-based filtering approach of EEG signals is a more effective means of extracting a specific brain activity reflected in EEG signals that will result in more accurate source localization or imaging maps.
A more specialized area of transient evaluations is transmission line fault-detecting and protection system. During the first cycle or two following a power system fault, a high-speed protective relay is expected to make a decision as to the severity or location of the fault, usually based on 60 Hz information, i.e. the phase and magnitude of 60 Hz voltage or current signals. It is precisely at this time however that the signal is badly corrupted by noise, in the form of a de offset or frequencies above 50 Hz. One of several possible sources of transients in protection measuring signals is in the primary system for which protection is required in its response to the impact of short circuit fault on-set. Other sources are in the primary voltage and current transducers from which protection signals are derived, and, often of particular importance, in the interface circuits between the transducer secondaries and the comparator and measuring elements of the protection system. However, the noise signals that will be described in this paper are due to the main power system only and do not include errors due to current or voltage transducers.
We investigate theoretically the tolerance of 40 Gbps phase-modulated (PM) duobinary signals using a vestigial sideband (VSB) filter on impairments which occurred in dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) systems, compared to the conventional duobinary signals. Our simulation results show that PM duobinary signals can't have the gain on the spectral efficiency achieved by utilizing the VSB filtering technique. In order to increase the spectral efficiency, they indispensably require to be transmitted at the optimum bandwidth of multiplexer (MUX) and demultiplexer (DEMUX) since they are susceptible to inter-channel crosstalk. It is also shown that the PM duobinary modulation format has a large tolerance on self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM) under the condition which MUX and DEMUX have been tuned at an optimum bandwidth; it has 1.2 dB power penalty at the fiber launching power (FLP) of 15 dBm and the channel spacing of 50 GHz.
In the examination of steam generator(SG) tube in nuclear power plant, eddy current testing probes play an important role in detecting the defects. Bobbin probe and MRPC probe is usually used for the inspection of SG tube. Bobbin probe is good at high speed inspection, but ability of detection of circumferential defect is very weak. On the contrary MRPC probe, which moves for inspection in the direction of axial and circumferential simultaneously, has very slow inspection speed, but it has excellent detection capability for small cracks, which is hardly detected by bobbin probe. In this paper, for the accurate analysis of experimental ECT signals, construction of MRPC probe signals database according to the variation of defect size is the main purpose. Using 3-D finite element method, ECT signals are analyzed, and signals analysis add according to frequency ingredient. The results, which are analysis and characteristics ion of electromagnetism simulation signals, is databased.
Since one decade, the detection of HFPD (High frequency Partial Discharge) has been proposed as one of the effective method for the diagnosis of the power component under service in power grids. As a tool for HFPD detection, Metal Foil sensor based on the embedded technology has been commercialized for mainly power cable due to its advantages. Recently, for the on-site noise discrimination, several PA (Pulse analysis) methods have been reported and the related software, such as Neural Network and Fuzzy, have been proposed to separate the PD (Partial Discharge) signals from the noises since their wave shapes are completely different from each other. On the other hand, the relevant fundamental investigation has not yet clearly made while it is reported that the effectiveness of the current methods based on PA is dependant on the types of sensors. Moreover, regarding the identification of the vital defects introducible into the Power Cable, the direct identification of the nature of defects from the PD signals through Metal Foil coupler has not yet been realized. As a trial for solving above shortcomings, different types of software have been proposed and employed without any convincing probability of identification. In this regards, our novel algorithm 'PA Map' based on the pulse analysis is suggested to identify directly the defects inside the power cable from the HFPD signals which is output of the HFCT and metal foil sensors. This method enables to discriminate the noise and then to make the data analysis related to the PD signals. For the purpose, the HFPD detection and PA (Pulse Analysis) system have been developed and then the effect of noise discrimination has been investigated by use of the artificial defects using real scale mockup. Throughout these works, our system is proved to be capable of separating the small void discharges among the very large noises such as big air corona and ground floating discharges at the on-site as well as of identifying the concerned defects.
