  • We study in this paper both distributed power control and removal algorithms for multimedia CDMA wireless networks. In our study, users can have different data rates as well as different quality of service (QoS) requirements. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the fully distributed power control (FDPC) algorithm to find a feasible power set. We also prove that, if the maximal power level is used at the start, then the distributed constrained power control (DCPC) algorithm is equivalent to the FDPC algorithm. For the connection removal algorithm, we prove that the non-reinitialized removal algorithm finds a feasible power set faster and employs smaller power levels than the reinitialized one does. Performances of some connection removal criteria are also studied. Our simulation results reveal that the smallest normalized CIR (SNC) and largest CIR requirement (LCR) criteria result in smaller outage probability than the smallest CIR (SC) criterion in a multimedia environment.

  • In order to meet the low voltage ride-through requirement in a grid code, a wind power plant (WPP) has to stay connected to a grid, supporting the voltage recovery for a grid fault. To do this, a plant-level controller as well as a wind generator (WG) controller is essential. The dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed in order to design a plant-level controller. The dynamic response of a WPP for a grid fault is the collective response of all WGs, which depends on the wind speed approaching the WG. Thus, the dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed by taking the wake effect into consideration, because different wind speeds at WGs will result in different responses of the WPP. This paper analyzes the response of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based offshore WPP with a grid fault taking into account the wake effect. To obtain the approaching wind speed of a WG in a WPP, we considered the cumulative impact of multiple shadowing and the effect of the wind direction. The voltage, reactive power, and active power at the point of common coupling of a 100 MW DFIG-based offshore WPP were analyzed during and after a grid fault under various wind and fault conditions using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results clearly demonstrate that not considering the wake effect leads to significantly different results, particularly for the reactive power and active power, which could potentially lead to incorrect conclusions and / or control schemes for a WPP.

  • One of the obstacles preventing the Zigbee protocol from being widely used is the excessive power consumption of Zigbee devices in low bandwidth and low power requirement applications. This paper proposes a protocol that resolves the power efficiency problem. The proposed protocol reduces the power consumption of Zigbee devices in beacon-enabled networks without increasing the time taken by Zigbee peripherals to communicate with their coordinator. The proposed protocol utilizes a beacon control mechanism called a "sleep pattern," which is updated based on the previous event statistics. It determines exactly when Zigbee peripherals wake up or sleep. A simulation of the proposed protocol using realistic parameters and an experiment using commercial products yielded similar results, demonstrating that the protocol may be a solution to reduce the power consumption of Zigbee devices.

  • Automatically tuned passive filters can improve power quality to a great extent in power systems. A novel three-phase shunt auto-tuned filter is designed to effectively compensate source current harmonics and to provide reactive power required by the non-linear load, which draws a highly reactive, harmonic-rich current from the supply. An artificial neural network (ANN) based controller selects filter component values in accordance with reactive power requirement and harmonic compensation. Traditional passive filters are permanently connected to the system and draw large amounts of source current even under light load conditions. By using auto-tuned filters, the passive filter components can be controlled according to load variations and, hence, draw only required source currents. The selection is done by the ANN with the help of a properly tuned knowledge base to provide instantaneous compensation using a digital controller.

  • Recently, new trend in telecommunication device is to apply low voltage, about 3.3V-1.5V. However, it is undesirable in view of high efficiency and power desity which is the most important requirement in the distributed power system. Rectification loss in the output stage in on-board converter for distributed power system are constrained to obtain high efficience at low output voltage power suppies. This paper is investigated conduction power loss in synchronouss rectifier with a parallel -connected Schottky Barrier Diode(SBD). Conduction losses are calculated for both MOSFET and SBD respectively. The SBD conduction power loss dissipates more than the MOSFET rectifier conduction power loss.

  • In this paper, design method for power tower hazard diagnosis/predition system based on UsN was proposed. The proposed method used multi-hybrid sensors to measure rotation, displacement, and inclination state of power tower, and made decision/prediction of hazard of power tower. System design was made with requirement analysis of monitoring for transmission power facility and use of MEMS and optic fiber sensors. For hazard decision, analysis of correlation was made using sensor output. LN based on IEC61850,international standard for digital substation, was also proposed. For transmission facility monitoring, digital substation and power tower were considered as parts of power facility networks.

  • According to the Housing Lease Protection Act, even though it is not registered, if the lessee has completed delivery of a house and the resident registration, the lease shall take effect against the third person from the following day thereof. Any lessee who has met the requirements for opposing power and obtained the fixed date on the lease contract document, shall be entitled to receive the repayment of the deposit from the converted price of the leased house, in preference to any junior obligors and other creditors, at the time of an auction as provided by the Civil Execution Act and a public sale as prescribed by the National Tax Collection Act. The lessee shall be entitled to receive a repayment of a specified amount of the deposit in preference to other persons having the security rights in the leased house. However those provisions give rise to many problems because the Housing Lease Protection Act allows the opposing power and the right of preferential payment from the following date of fulfillment of the requirement. For the purpose of solving the problems, this study suggests that the Housing Lease Protection Act need to be amended as follows. The fixed date should be added to the requirement of opposing power and the preferential right of specified deposit repayment. In addition, the commencement of opposing power and preferential right of deposit repayment need to be taken effect from the day that the requirement is fulfilled.

  • In this paper, a novel flywheel energy storage device, called the flexible power conditioner, which integrates both the characteristics of the flywheel energy storage and the doubly-fed induction machine, is proposed to improve power system stability. A prototype is developed and its principle, composition, and design are described in detail. The control system is investigated and the operating characteristics are analyzed. The test results based on the prototype are presented and evaluated. The test results illustrate that the prototype meets the design requirement on power regulation and starting, and provides a cost-effective and effective means to improve power system stability.

  • Because of environmental crisis, researchers are seeking and developing a new, clean, safe and renewable energy. Solar cell energy and fuel cell energy have inestimable development potential. The paper introduces hybrid photovoltaic-fuel cell generation systems supplying a remote power load and hybrid system of solar cell and fuel cell considering the advantages of stable and sustainable energy from the economic point of view. Fuel cell power system has been proven a viable technology to back up severe PV power fluctuations under inclement weather conditions. Fuel cell power generation, containing small land us, is able to alleviate the heavy burden for large surface requirement of PV power plants. In addition, the PV-fuel cell hybrid power system shows a very little potential for lifetime $CO_2$ emissions. In this paper shows the I-V characteristics of the solar module which are dependent on the power of the halogen lamp and the I-V characteristics of fuel cells which are connected in parallel. Also, it shows efficiency of the hybrid system.

Reliability assessment of power system has been an important topic for the past several decades. This paper deals with reliability assessment of a 154kV power substation n KEPCO. In his paper, exponential distribution is used to calculate reliablity index. The failure rate data that are utilited for reliablity index based on the realistic system. Also, FTA(Fault Tree Analysis) is used to compute substation reliablity
