  • The rare earth output is concentrated in limited number of countries including China. Also the necessity for development of non-rare earth motor is getting signified due to the rapid increase of rare earth price and resource weaponizing policies. Non-rare earth motor is generally designed as spoke type PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) in order to maximize the power density. Such spoke type PMSM has advantage in concentrating the flux but demonstrates lower efficiency compared to permanent magnet using Nd (Neodymium) permanent magnet. Therefore, applications with strong necessity for efficiency need rotor structure having improved efficiency compared to spoke type PMSM. Hence, this study suggested fan-shape type PMSM with somewhat lower power density but maximized efficiency. Fan-shape type PMSM is a rotor shape demonstrating outstanding reduction of iron loss compared to existing spoke type. Thus, this study analyzed the improvement of efficiency and reduction of loss arising from the suggested shape through parameter calculation.

  • The effects of magnetic powder thickness on electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in Fe-6.5Si-0.9Cr (wt%) alloy flakes/polymer composite sheets available for quasi-microwave band have been investigated. The atomized FeSiCr powders were milled by using attritor for 12, 24, and 36 h, powder thickness changed from $40{\mu}m$ to $3{\mu}m$ upon 36 h milling. The composite sheet, including thinned magnetic flakes, exhibited higher power loss in the GHz frequency range as compared with the sheets having thick flakes. Moreover, both the complex permeability and the loss factor increased with the decrease in thickness of the alloy flakes. Therefore, the enhanced power loss property of the sheets containing thin alloy flakes was attributed to the flakes of high complex permeability, especially their imaginary part. Additionally, the complex permittivity was also increased with the reduction of flake thickness, and this behavior was considered to be helpful for improvement of the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics in the composite sheets, including thin alloy flakes.

  • The workplace noise environment is composed of three basic elements : manufacturing (in a generic sense) facilities, office areas, and the community around the facility. Work must be done by all employees , and this involves communication within a variety of locations within the facility ; areas may be extremely noisy, moderately noisy, or quiet, such as an office. At the same time, the facility should not be annoying to the community. In this paper, the workplace environmental noise of office areas in power plant are studied. Turbine generator in power plant generates the noise of 90∼95 dB(A) in the frequency range of 1 kHz, which may cause occupational hearing loss. By abatement method which are made of isolation material and distance damping effect, about 29.5 dB(A) reduction has been obtained in office areas of the Power Plant . But, the workplace environmental noise of office areas in the power plant is not suited to office's purpose.

  • This paper proposes a new three-phase diode rectifier system with a sinusoidal input current at unity power factor and a regulated and isolated output voltage at low level. The inherent natural wave-shaping capability of the reduced kVA polyphase transformer together with an active current wave-shaping technique results in a significant reduction of input and output filter requirements associated with switching ripple and EMI. The operation principles are described along with a design example and a comparative evaluation. Experimental results on a 1.5kW prototype are provided to validate the proposed concept.

  • Since they use the low switching frequency in multilevel inverter systems, they generate the high low frequency harmonic components. Generally, LC filter is used at the output terminal of inverter systems to solve this problem. But it causes a voltage drop at the output terminal by use of damping resistors, and causes the problem in which system efficiency decreases due to power loss of the damping resistor. In this paper, we proposed an output filter design method for NPC three-level inverter systems with low switching frequency. And we analyzed the efficiency of the proposed filter system, and the effectiveness of the proposed system is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper investigates the effect of the conducted EMI Electromagnetic Interference and the switching loss which occurs from the switching devices in the switching period of the unipolar and limited unipolar switching circuits. The three main sources of conducted EMI and switching loss in the unipolar and limited unipolar switching circuit come from the switching devices, the number of switching times in the switching period and their switching waveform. In this paper, these three parameters are used to determine the conducted EMI which generated from the unipolar and limited unipolar switching circuits and to improve the limited unipolar switching circuit which uses the power MOSFET´s as the switching devices. The significant reduction of Ire conducted EMI ...

  • This paper deals with the optimal muffler model by using acoustic analysis and CFD(computational fluid dynamics) analysis. The complicated muffler model could be better noise reduction performance. However, it could be worse affected to back-pressure performance by pressure drop in working fluid. High back-pressure is caused to low system efficiency. Therefore, it is important for the muffler design to consider the pressure drop. The muffler models are changed their partition plate position. Acoustic power transmission loss(TL) and pressure drop of working fluid are calculated by using computational analysis and used to build database for finding their trends. The optimal muffler model in user-interested frequency range could be selected by analyzing this database.

  • In this paper, the experimental design of an intake system was studied using the two microphones method and the taguchi method. The transmission loss was utilized to represent the performance of noise reduction for the intake system which was estimated by measuring sound power at inlet and outlet with two microphones, respectively. Two microphones method used in this paper was followed by wave decomposition theory The robust designing parameters of an intake system were extracted by adapting a cost function with the taguchi method, which optimized the process. Finally the effectiveness of the propose method was validated with the experimental data.

  • A theoretical model is studied to describe the sound radiation by the surface vibration of in-service tires. The tire is modeled as a circular ring model. The effects of normalized frequency and structrual loss factor are included. Through numerical integration of the sound pressure, the radiated sound power is calculated as a fuction of normalized frequency and structural loss factor. The basic sound radiation mechanism is shown to be the damped progressive wave field on the structure in the vicinity of the applied force. The results indicate that the potential sound reduction might be obtained if values of normalized frequency and structural loss factor are investigated.

  • This paper presents the electromagnetic shielding structure for low frequency wireless power transfer system with magnetic induction method using soft magnetic materials. Soft magnetic materials have advantages such as high permeability and low magnetic loss, but have undesirable effect of power loss by eddy current. To overcome this, we proposed the patterned soft magnetic material to suppress the eddy current path. For validity of this paper, we simulated the coil transfer efficiency and the radiated electromagnetic field, and fabricated the proposed structure using 79-permalloy. The measured results shows good agreements with the simulated results and reduction of the radiated electromagnetic field compared to commercial ferrite plate.
