  • A general purpose experimental set-up has been designed and implemented for students to carry out various experiments on inverters in the power electronics laboratories of universities, during a few hours of laboratory work. This is the first inverter setup that incorporates hardware and software control, as well as an optional user interface in a laboratory experimental set-up of a single multi-purpose inverter, thus making the system versatile and very practical for both undergraduate and graduate students. The system can be controlled either by a computer or through a liquid crystal display (LCD) and a keypad control unit, and it constitutes a low-cost alternative to relatively expensive commercial teaching sets. The computer provides a user friendly interface and easier control for laboratory environments equipped with computers. The LCD and keypad units eliminate the need for a computer, which makes this system usable in the laboratory as a standalone unit as well.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.

  • This paper proposes a regeneration inverter system, which can regenerate the excessive power form do bus line to ac source for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for dc traction can reduce harmonics which are included to ac current source. The regeneration inverter is operated as two modes. In the regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and in the active power filter mode, it can compensate harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In this paper, the regeneration inverter uses PWM DC/AC inverter algorithm and the active power filter uses p-q theory. From the informative simulation and experimental results, which are performed wiith a prototype rated 3.7[kw], it can expected that the proposed system can be effectively applied in the real traction system rated 100[kw].

  • As h-bridge multilevel inverter is connected with series of single phase power cell, so it obtain high voltage using low voltage power semi-conductor and output voltage similar to sine wave. In this topology, the number of power cell increases in proportion to the output voltage level. Therefore, there are drawbacks that are responsibility against operating ability of main controller and signal wire increase. However, we can overcome this problems by the substitution of serial communication for the PWM signal in power cell control. Additionally, it has merits of reliability and maintenance. This paper deals with the synchronization and phase-shift method of power cell PWM using CAN(Controller Area Network) communication interrupt in H-bridge multilevel inverter. The advantages of proposed method are signal-line simplification using serial communication between main controller and cell controller, burden reduction in main controller, modularization of power cell, easy protection of each power cell, expandability improvement and reliability increase of control signal and power cell. This paper establishes propriety and reliability of proposed method through experiment of 13-level H-bridge multilevel inverter.

  • Nowadays various simulation tools are widely used for the design and the analysis of power electronic converters. From the engineering point of view it is rather difficult to parameterize power semiconductor device models without the knowledge of basic physical parameters. In recent years some data sheet driven behavioral models or so called 'wizard' tools have been introduced to solve this problem. In this contribution some experiences with some user-friendly power semiconductor models will be discussed. Using special simulation test circuits it is possible to get information on the static and dynamic behavior of the parameterized models before they are applied in more complex schemes. These results can be compared with data sheets or with measurements. The application of these models for power loss analysis of inverter type arc welding power sources will be described.

  • In order to overcome the drawbacks of low rated power of the string inverter, the necessity of micro -inverters and future development directions will be examined by comparing the power conditioner system with existing PCS using micro inverter. Currently, string inverters have been used in household solar power generation systems, and research and penetration of micro-inverters(PV-MIC) have been expanding, which can overcome the shortcomings of string inverters starting from Europe. However, in the PV inverter industry, precise technical standards, test measurement equipment and related test methods for micro-inverters(PV-MIC) are obstacles to product development. Therefore, in this paper, considering the characteristics of micro-inverter (PV-MIC), it aims to make it competitive so that it does not lag behind advanced technology change through test measurement equipment and related technical standard.

  • This paper presents a novel version of an active voltage clamped ZVS-PWM high frequency inverter using IGBTs for electromagnetic induction eddy current-based rolling drum heating in new generation copy and printing machines in consumer business use. The operating principle of this inverter circuit and unique features are described herein. Its constant frequency duty cycle (asymmetrical PWM) controlled voltage source quasi-resonant soft switching high frequency inverter employing IGBTs is proposed, which is capable of achieving stable and efficient zero voltage soft switching commutation over a widely specified power regulation range from full power to low power. The operating performances in a steady state of this inverter is discussed and evaluated on basis of simulation and experimental results as an induction heated roller in new generation copy machine.

  • We present a two-stage inverter with high step-up conversion ratio engaging modified finite-set Model Predictive Control (MPC) for utility-integrated photovoltaic (PV) applications. The anticipated arrangement is fit for low power PV uses, the calculated efficiency at 150 W input power and 19 times boosting ratio was around 94%. The suggested high-gain dc-dc converter based on Cockcroft-Walton multiplier constitutes the first-stage of the offered structure, due to its high step-up ability. It can boost the input voltage up to 20 times. The 3S current-source inverter constitutes the second-stage. The 3S current-source inverter hires three semiconductor switches, in which one is functioning at high-frequency and the others are operating at fundamental-frequency. The high-switching pulses are varied in the procedure of unidirectional sine-wave to engender a current coordinated with the utility-voltage. The unidirectional current is shaped into alternating current by the synchronized push-pull configuration. The MPC process are intended to control the scheme and achieve the subsequent tasks, take out the Maximum Power (MP) from the PV, step-up the PV voltage, and introduces low current with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and with unity power factor with the grid voltage.

  • In this paper, the regenerative inverter system with voltage drop compensation mode is proposed. When the main rectifier is broken, the DC traction can not be supplied the power from the utility. Actually, the reserve rectifier is mounted in the substation to prevent this accident. In this paper, the voltage drop compensation mode is added to the regenerative inverter system in order to substitute the reserve rectifier. The proposed regenerative inverter system returns the regenerative energy from the DC line voltage to the utility. In addition, the inverter can be compensate the harmonics caused by the power conversion devices used in the DC traction system. We demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm by using computer simulation.
