  • This paper suggests the control algorithm of a 3-phase 3-wire series active power filters which have harmonic voltage source and harmonic current source This suggested control algorithm can compensate harmonics which are generated by nonlinear load such as diode or thyristor converter and reactive power in 3-phase 3-wire power distribution system This control algorithm extracts a compensation voltage reference from performance function without phase transformation Therefore this control algorithm is simpler than any other conventional control algorithm. 3-phase 3-wire series active power filter and hybrid active power filter is manufactured and experiments are carried out for harmonic voltage source and harmonic current source to verify the effectiveness of presented control algorithm Experimental results are presented in this Paper, as well.

  • This paper proposed a transfer function of a frequency-controlled resonant inverter for output power control. The inverter is modeled as an equivalent circuit by using Phasor transformation. A transfer function is derived from the equivalent circuit which contains cross-coupled nonlinear parts. By simulation of the circuit, the transfer function can be approximated as a linear first-order function. The proposed transfer function is verified through comparison of experimental and simulation results.

  • In many case of optimal design and sensitivity analysis, obtaining of transfer function between input and output variables is a difficult and time-consuming problem. The bond graph modeling is a method that is used for making it easy to analyze complex systems composed of mechanical and electrical parts. It gives us a simple and systematic tool to get state-space equations easily. And we can obtain the transfer function graphically using bond graph and Mason's rule. This paper shows how bond graphs are converted to block diagram and how Mason's rule is applied. And the simple direct method to obtain transfer function from bond graph is introduced. As a example, induction of transfer function of electric power steering composed of mechanical and electrical parts will be done.

  • This paper addresses modeling of the gyro drift by using the structure function approach which has been originally developed for characterization of the oscillator phase noise. It is shown that by using this approach, an arbitrary order of random and deterministic gyro drift processes can be characterized and easily measured. The relationship between the drift power spectral density and structure function is clarified. It is also shown that this approach simplifies analysis of the effect of drift on the control system performance.

  • Social Welfare is useful concept for evaluating the effectiveness of an economic policy in micro economics. This paper focuses on Social Welfare(SW) of electricity market incorporating demand response(DR). Competition between DR and generation company is modeled as a simple bid function. DR function can be considered as an negative generation(called Negawatt) and as an element of modified demand function. These two approaches result in the same demand reduction, generation power, and the market price. However, SW in the modified demand function approach is not identical to SW in the Negawatt approach. It makes the numerical index of DR effectiveness less persuasive. This paper proposes modified definition of SW in the demand function approach. The proposed definition of SW leads the DR effectiveness index to be identical to that in the Negawatt approach.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to objectively evaluate sensory disturbance in cervical spondylosis using grip force and investigate the relationship between the grip force and upper extremity function. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Eleven cervical spondylosis patients with paresthesia conducted grip and lift tasks using a precision grip with the tips of the thumb and index finger on either side. The sum of the grip force used during the first four seconds was calculated and defined as the total grip force. The cutaneous pressure threshold of the fingers, the pinch power, the grip power and three subtests of the Simple Test for Evaluating Hand Function (STEF) were also assessed. Correlations between the total grip force and cutaneous pressure threshold, pinch power, grip power, and STEF subtest times were evaluated. Results: We found that the total grip force correlated with the cutaneous pressure threshold (p<0.05). Moreover, the total grip force of the dominant thumb correlated with the results of the three STEF subtests (p<0.05). There were no significant correlations between the total grip force and pinch/grip powers. Conclusions: We found that the total grip force correlated with cutaneous pressure threshold and upper extremity function. The results suggest that the total grip force could serve as an objective index for evaluating paresthesia in cervical spondylosis patients, and that the impaired ability of the upper extremity function is related to grip force coordination.

  • This paper presents an optimization method which determines locations and size of capacitors simultaneously while minimizing power losses and improving voltage profile in radial distribution systems. Especially, the cost function associated with capacitor placement is considered as step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Genetic algorithms(GA) are used to obtain efficiently the solution of the cost function associated with capacitors which is non-continuous and non-differentiable function. The strings in GA consist of the node number index and size of capacitors to be installed. The length mutation operator, which is able to change the length of strings in each generation, is used. The proposed method which determines locations and size of capacitors simultaneously can reduce power losses and improve' voltage profile with capacitors of minimum size. Its efficiency is proved through the application in radial distribution systems.

  • Classical full waveform inversion for velocity estimation defines the objective function as the $l^2$ -norm of differences between the modeled and the observed wavefields. Although widely used, the results of this method have been less than satisfactory. A moderate improvement of this method is to define the objective function as the $l^2$ -norm of differences between the logarithms of the modeled and observed wavefields. In this paper we propose new objective functions of waveform inversion. They produce better results in sub-salt imaging than those of the classical and the logarithmic objective functions. One objective function defines the residual as the difference between $L^{th}$ power of the modeled wavefields and that of the observed wavefields. Another defines the residual as the difference between the integral of the $L^{th}$ power of the modeled wavefields and that of the observed wavefields. We apply these new objective functions to the synthetic SEG/EAGE salt model, and show that our new waveform inversion algorithms provide more accurate results than those of the classical and logarithmic waveform inversion methods.

  • The authors investigate the convergence speed problem of nonlinear adaptive equalization. Convergence constraints and time constant of radial basis function network using stochastic gradient (RBF-SG) algorithm is analyzed and a method of making time constant independent of hidden-node output power by using sample-by-sample node output power estimation is derived. The method for estimating the node power is to use a single-pole low-pass filter. It is shown by simulation that the proposed algorithm gives faster convergence and lower minimum MSE than the RBF-SG algorithm.
