A novel integrated battery charger/discharger converter for a standardized battery module is proposed. Instead of using separate charger and discharger converters, it integrates these two converters into a single converter in order to minimize the size. The integrated charger/discharger converter not only regulates the solar array output power including the peak power tracking capability but also controls the battery charging/discharging current depending on the solar array output power and the load power. In addition, it offers a regulated bus voltage which simplifies the power distribution/conversion for the pay load.
Mach-Zehnder interferometric wavelength converters with monolithically integrated semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's) have been fabricated and characteristics of wavelength conversion at 10 Gb/s have been investigated for wavelength span of 40 nm. The devices have been achieved by using a butt-joint combination of buried ridge structure type SOA's and passive waveguides. In the integration, a new method has been applied that removes p+InP cladding layer leading to high propagation loss and forms simultaneously the current blocking and the cladding layer using undoped InP. The module packaging has been achieved by using a titled fiber array for effective coupling into the tilted waveguide in the wavelength converter. Using the module, wavelength conversion with power penalty lower than 1 ㏈ at 10 Gb/s has been demonstrated for wavelength span of 40 nm. In addition, it is show that the module can provide 2R (re-amplification, re-shaping) operation by demonstrating the conversion with the negative penalty.

This paper presents an operator training simulator for power system restoration against massive black-out. The system is designed especially focused on the generality and convenient setting up for initial condition of simulation. The former is accomplished by using power flow calculation methodology, and PSS/E data is used to define the initial situation. The proposed simulator consists of three major components - the power flow(PF) module, data conversion(COW) module and GU subsystem. PF module calculates power flow, and then checks overvoltage of buses and overflow of lines. COW module composes an Y-Bus array and a data base at each restoration action. The initial Y-Bus array is constructed from PSS/E data. The user friendly GUI subsystem is developed including graphic editor and built-in operation manual. As a result, the maximum processing time for one step operation is 15 seconds, which is adequate for training purpose. Comparison with PSS/E simulation proves the accuracy and reliability of the training system.
The power conversion converter for driving the wireless power transfer system is can be into the two part of the DC power conversion rectifier and the high frequency dc-ac power conversion inverter. In this paper, The operating characteristics of the Class-${\Phi}_2$ resonant inverter have been investigated through by simulation and by experiment. It can be switched at a high frequency without the switching losses and the harmonics are reduced effectively due to the input LC filter. Its switching frequency is 1MHz and the input voltage is 96V which is the output voltage of LLC resonant converter. And its output peak voltage is 170V. The resonant inverter module operated at the commercial power source of 220V was built. And also the electromagnetic coupled resonance coils were designed for wireless power transfer with a 1MHz operating frequency. As a experimental result, the wireless power transmission was confirmed and it is varified the validity of the experiment.

This thesis is based on the research and experiment of the optimal efficiency generation of electric power. The research and experiment were conducted to search the optimal generation of electric power from a specific amount of solar energy from Photovoltaic Power System with a solar position tracker were used. The changes in the array angles and spacing of the PV Module were also taken into account as well. Here are the findings and the conclusions. First of all, based on experiment using the various anglers, the efficiency generation of electric power increased to a maximum of approximately $12{\sim}17$[%] more at the PV module inclination angle of 30[$^{\circ}$] than at the inclination angles of 20[$^{\circ}$] and 40[$^{\circ}$]. As a result, we have found that installing the PV module inclination at the angle of 30[$^{\circ}$] brought about the most efficient conversion effect of the Photovoltaic Power System. But, when the solar cell is installed on a roof or rooftop where snow builds up, it is the most appropriate to install the solar energy at an 35[$^{\circ}$] angle so that snow slides down and not build up on the module.
The importance of ESS has been emphasized due to stabilization of power demand due to deterioration of network reliability and expansion of renewable energy sources. ESS (Energy Storage System) stores the remaining power and uses it when necessary to meet the power demand, and build the ESS system mainly in conjunction with solar and wind power. In this paper, we propose a home PV Charging Module using the Master-Slave method which is effective for low insolation. After designing the module, Fast MPPT algorithm is applied to generate the maximum output from the nonlinear output characteristics of the PV modules. The average power value for the input of PV Charging Module was 296.90 W and the output power was 289.60 W, which averaged 97.54%.

Bifacial photovoltaic (PV) technology has received considerable attention in recent years due to the potential to achieve a higher annual energy yield compared to its monofacial PV systems. In this study, we fabricated the bifacial c-Si PV module with a shingled design using the conventional patterned bifacial solar cells. The shingled design PV module has recently attracted attention as a high-power module. Compared to the conventional module, it can have a much more active area due to the busbar-free structure. We employed the transparent backsheet for a light reception at the rear side of the PV module. Finally, we achieved a conversion power of 453.9 W for a 1300 mm × 2000 mm area. Moreover, we perform reliability tests to verify the durability of our Shingled Design Bifacial c-Si Photovoltaic module.
In this paper, a new conceptual circuit configuration of a 3-phase voltage source, soft switching AC-DC-AC converter using an IGBT module, which has one ARCPL circuit and one ARDCL circuit, is presented. In actuality, the ARCPL circuit is applied in the 3-phase voltage source rectifier side, and the ARDCL circuit is in the inverter side. And more, each power semiconductor device has a novel clamp snubber circuit, which can save the power semiconductor device from voltage and current across each power device. The proposed soft switching circuits have only two active power semiconductor devices. These ARCPL and ARDCL circuits consist of fewer parts than the conventional soft switching circuit. Furthermore, the proposed 3-phase voltage source soft switching AC-DC-AC power conversion system needs no additional sensor for complete soft switching as compared with the conventional 3-phase voltage source AC-DC-AC power conversion system. In addition to this, these soft switching circuits operate only once in one sampling term. Therefore, the power conversion efficiency of the proposed AC-DC-AC converter system will get higher than a conventional soft switching converter system because of the reduced ARCPL and ARDCL circuit losses. The operation timing and terms for ARDCL and ARCPL circuits are calculated and controlled by the smoothing DC capacitor voltage and the output AC current. Using this control, the loss of the soft switching circuits are reduced owing to reduced resonant inductor current in ARCPL and ARDCL circuits as compared with the conventional controlled soft switching power conversion system. The operating performances of proposed soft switching AC-DC-AC converter treated here are evaluated on the basis of experimental results in a 50kVA setup in this paper. As a result of experiment on the 50kVA system, it was confirmed that the proposed circuit could reduce conduction noise below 10 MHz and improve the conversion efficiency from 88. 5% to 90.5%, when compared with the hard switching circuit.
In this paper a maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques for power of PV(photovoltaic) systems are presented using boost converter for a connected single phase inverter. On the basic principle of power generation for the PV module, algorithms for maximum power point tracking are described by utilizing a boost converter to adjust the output voltage of the PV module. Based on output power of a boost converter, single phase inverter uses predicted current control to control four IGBT's switch in full bridge. Furthermore a low cost control system for solar energy conversion using the DSP is developed, based on boost converter to adjust the output voltage of the PV module. The effectiveness of the proposed inverter system is confirmed experimentally and by means of simulation. Finally, experimental results confirm the superior performance of the proposed method.

Switch losses directly affect the efficiency of power conversion systems and those have big differences according to the power consumed by load systems and the structures of power conversion circuits. In this paper, analyses for switch losses in DC link converter are performed based on the circuit structures of the DC/DC converter in photovoltaic generation system whose output power is varied according to the amount of solar radiation, temperature and partial shade on the solar modules. Boost converter is adopted as a DC link converter topology of the photovoltaic generation system and the loss analyses for the switches used in the boost converters are performed according to the circuit structures. Analyses like the things performed in this paper will be a prerequisite to designing the photovoltaic generation system whose output power is changed according to the environmental variations.
