  • The neutral beam injection generate ultra-high temperature energy in the tokamak of nuclear fusion. The neutral beam injection make up arc power supply, filament power supply and acceleration & deceleration power supply. The arc power supply has characteristics of low voltage and high current. Arc power supply generate arc through constant output of voltage and current. So this paper proposed suitable buck converter for low voltage and high current. The proposed buck converter used parallel switch because it can be increased capacity and decrease conduction loss. When an arc generated, the neutral beam injection chamber occur high voltage. And it will break output capacitor of buck converter. Therefore the output capacitor was removed in the proposed converter. Thus the proposed converter should be designed for the characteristics of low voltage and high current. Also, the arc power supply should be guaranteed for system stability. The proposed parallel buck converter enables the system stability of the divided low output voltage and high current. The proposed converter with constant output be the most important design of the output inductor. In this paper, designed arc power supply verified operation of system and stability through simulation and prototype. After it is applied to the 288[kW] arc power supply for neutral beam injection.

  • This paper proposes a series arc fault detection algorithm which incorporates peak voltage and harmonic current detectors for single-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifiers. The series arc fault model is also proposed to analyze the phenomenon of the arc fault and detection algorithm. For arc detection, the virtual dq transformation is utilized to detect the peak input voltage. In addition, multiple combinations of low- and high-pass filters are applied to extract the specific harmonic components which show the characteristics of the series arc fault conditions. The proposed model and the arc detection method are experimentally verified through a boost PFC rectifier prototype operating under the grid-tied condition with an artificial arc generator manufactured under the guidelines for the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1699 standard.

  • Arc-furnace is one of the large loads in the electric power system. When the arc-furnace operates, it may cause a bus voltage fluctuation in the power system, because it consumes a lot of reactive power. In this paper, we simulated this phenomenon by using a PSAF program with on-site measured arc-furnace load. The simulated results show that the fluctuation of bus voltage adjacent the arc-furnace was varied from $4.3\%\sim7.8\%$ the normal voltage because of reactive power consumption by arc-furnace. Therefore, we expect this study will come into use as the basic information on the probability of the demand control

  • This paper investigates the electrical characteristics of popular power converters such as a half-bridge rectifier, a full-bridge rectifier, a buck converter, and an inverter when the arc is occurred at the input and the output of each converter. In order to generate an artificial arc, the arc generator has been implemented according to the design guideline suggested in UL1699. After that, the trend of the input and output voltage variation and the switching stress of the devices are analyzed. From the analysis, it has been confirmed that the generated arc causes an uncertain operation to the power converters. To reduce the unexpected disturbance effect of the arc, the capacitor adjustment method has been proposed, and its superiority has been experimentally verified.

  • Arc power is consumed energy per unit time between welding electrodes. The relations between consumed energy and electrode distance, current, voltage are nonlinear characteristics. Therefore commercial A.C. wattmeter cannot be used for measurement of the arc power. Most of arc energy measuring systems are developed for relay contact arc measurement. Relaly arc requires integrated instantaneous power because relay arc finishes in a short instant. But most of welding powers are continually consumed powers, therefore instantaneous power must be continually indicated in the form of averagy value. The author propose a new measurement method of power in which the current and voltage of welding electrode is multiplied and the resultant signal is passed to low pass filter in order to remove higher order frequency components. After integrating, the signal is devided by the integral interval and the results are stored in a computer memory.

  • Recently, in the field of renewable energy such as solar cells including the semiconductor and display industries, thin film deposition process is being diversified. Furthermore, to deal with trend of making high-quality and fast, the high-capacity and output plasma power supply which can control high density plasma is required. The biggest problem is arc discharge caused by using high voltage power supply. Thus, the key function of plasma power supply is to prevent arc discharge and there is a need to maintain the possible minimum arc energy. In DC sputtering power supply, on a periodic basis (-)voltage powering up is able to significantly reduce arcing, as well as arc discharge prevention, and maintaining uniform charge density. This conventional method for powering up (-)voltage requires heavy mutual inductance of the transformer to avoid distortion problem of the output voltage. This study is about energy recovery circuit for arc discharge prevention in sputtering plasma power supply. By using energy recovery circuit, it is possible to reduce the mutual inductance and size of the transformer dramatically, prevent distortion of the output voltage and has a stable output waveform. This work was proved through simulation and experimental study.

  • Recently, many technologies of the P.L.C (Power Line Carrier) are introduced for an efficient communication. P.L.C communication sends information in the carrier signals by conduction over the power wire. An arc detector is proposed in this paper for the effective transmission. The Power Line Carrier has an advantage in low cost because it uses existent power line. It can be easily applied anywhere that a power line socket is available. But the P.L.C. is very noisy, because many electronic devices in generate electronic noise in modulated signals. This problem should be considered carefully in the design of the arc detector system using P.L.C in railway. The proposed system can be applied for monitoring the arc detector system and the arc locator system in railway. Hence the system will be able to exchange the arc information to be T.C.M.S. (Train Control Management System), bogies and even between a station and trains in railway and use to suspicion fire in train.

  • Fundamental features of the arc stability in DC arc furnace of 720V/100kA/72MW have been investigated. Cassie-Mayr arc model has been employed and applied for the target dc arc furnace. In order to characterize the parameters of Cassie-Mayr arc model and the behavior of unstable arc dynamics, the advanced arc simulations of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) has been performed. The MHD based arc simulation has been validated in the subcomponent level, for the free burning arc set up in the laboratory. From the results of MHD simulation, dc arc dynamic resistance is proposed to be an effective arc stability function reflecting the instability of dynamic arc behavior. The experimental result confirms the usefulness of proposed dynamic arc resistance as arc stability function. The proposed arc stability function can be regarded as an effective criterion for the overall power conversion system to maintain highly stable arcing operation leading to better productivity and reliability.
