For enhancing the coverage of wireless networks and increasing the spectrum efficiency, small cell networks (SCNs) are considered to be one of the most prospective schemes. Most of the existing literature on resource allocation among non-cooperative small cell base stations (SBSs) has widely drawn close attention and there are only a small number of the cooperative ideas in SCNs. Based on the motivation, we further investigate the cooperative approach, which is formulated as a coalition formation game with power control algorithm (CFG-PC). First, we formulate the downlink sub-channel resource allocation problem in an SCN as a coalition formation game. Pareto order and utilitarian order are applied to form coalitions respectively. Second, to achieve more availability and efficiency power assignment, we expand and solve the power control using particle swarm optimization (PSO). Finally, with our proposed algorithm, each SBS can cooperatively work and eventually converge to a stable SBS partition. As far as the transmit rate of per SBS and the system rate are concerned respectively, simulation results indicate that our proposed CFG-PC has a significant advantage, relative to a classical coalition formation algorithm and the non-cooperative case.

Currently, the quantize-and-forward (QF) scheme with high order modulation and quantization has rather high complexity and it is thus impractical, especially in multiple relay cooperative communications. To overcome these deficiencies, an improved low complex QF scheme is proposed by the combination of the low order binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation and the 1-bit and 2-bit quantization, respectively. In this scheme, the relay selection is optimized by the best relay position for best bit-error-rate (BER) performance, where the relays are located closely to the destination node. In addition, an optimal power allocation is also suggested on a total power constraint. Finally, the BER and the achievable rate of the low order 1-bit, 2-bit and 3-bit QF schemes are simulated and analyzed. Simulation results indicate that the 3-bit QF scheme has about 1.8~5 dB, 4.5~7.5 dB and 1~2.5 dB performance gains than those of the decode-and-forward (DF), the 1-bit and 2-bit QF schemes, at BER of $10^{-2}$, respectively. For the 2-bit QF, the scheme of the normalized Source-Relay (S-R) distance with 0.9 has about 5dB, 7.5dB, 9dB and 15dB gains than those of the distance with 0.7, 0.5, 0.3 and 0.1, respectively, at BER of $10^{-3}$. In addition, the proposed optimal power allocation saves about 2.5dB much more relay power on an average than that of the fixed power allocation. Therefore, the proposed QF scheme can obtain excellent features, such as good BER performance, low complexity and high power efficiency, which make it much pragmatic in the future cooperative communications.

With the assistance of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), the spectrum efficiency and the number of users in cloud radio access network (CRAN) can be greatly improved. In this paper, the system performance of NOMA-assisted CRAN is investigated. Specially, the outage probability (OP) and ergodic sum rate (ESR), are derived for performance evaluation of the system, respectively. Based on this, by minimizing the OP of the system, a suboptimal power allocation (PA) scheme with closed-form PA coefficients is proposed. Numerical simulations validate the accuracy of the theoretical results, where the derived OP has more accuracy than the existing one. Moreover, the developed PA scheme has superior performance over the conventional fixed PA scheme but has smaller performance loss than the optimal PA scheme using the exhaustive search method.
Destination-assisted jamming (DAJ) is usually used to protect confidential information against untrusted relays and eavesdroppers in wireless networks. In this paper, a DAJ-based untrusted relay network with multiple antennas installed is presented. To increase the secrecy, a joint optimization of beamforming and power allocation at the source and destination is studied. A matched-filter precoder is introduced to maximize the cooperative jamming signal by directing cooperative jamming signals toward untrusted relays. Then, based on generalized singular-value decomposition (GSVD), a novel transmitted precoder for confidential signals is devised to align the signal into the subspace corresponding to the confidential transmission channel. To decouple the precoder design and optimal power allocation, an iterative algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the above parameters. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme shows significant improvement in terms of security performance.

In this paper, we investigate power allocation scheme and outage performance for a physical-layer network coding (PNC) relay based secondary user (SU) communication in cognitive multi-antenna relay networks (CMRNs), in which two secondary transceivers exchange their information via a multi-antenna relay using PNC protocol. We propose an optimal energy-efficient power allocation (OE-PA) scheme to minimize total energy consumption per bit under the sum rate constraint and interference power threshold (IPT) constraints. A closed-form solution for optimal allocation of transmit power among the SU nodes, as well as the outage probability of the cognitive relay system, are then derived analytically and confirmed by numerical results. Numerical simulations demonstrate the PNC protocol has superiority in energy efficiency performance over conventional direct transmission protocol and Four-Time-Slot (4TS) Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay protocol, and the proposed system has the optimal outage performance when the relay is located at the center of two secondary transceivers.

In the fifth generation (5G) and beyond 5G (B5G) mobile communication, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has attracted great attention due to higher spectral efficiency and massive connectivity. We investigate the impacts of the channel estimation errors on the bit-error rate (BER) of NOMA, especially with the single-user decoding (SUD) receiver, which does not perform successive interference cancellation (SIC), in contrast to the conventional SIC NOMA scheme. First, an analytical expression of the BER for SUD NOMA with channel estimation errors is derived. Then, it is demonstrated that the BER performance degrades severely up to the power allocation less than about 20%. Additionally, we show that for the fixed power allocation of 10% in such power allocation range, the signal-to-noise (SNR) loss owing to channel estimation errors is about 5 dB. As a consequence, the channel estimation error should be considered for the design of the SUD NOMA scheme.

This paper proposes a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based low-complexity relaying approach for multiuser cellular two-way relay channels (CTWRCs). In the proposed scheme, the relay detects the signal using successive interference cancellation (SIC) and re-generates the transmit signal with zero-forcing (ZF) transmit precoding. The achievable data rates of the NOMA-based multiuser two-way relaying (TWR) approach is analyzed. We further study the power allocation among different data streams to maximize the weighted sum-rate (WSR). We re-form the resultant non-convex problem into a standard monotonic program. Then, we design a polyblock outer approximation algorithm to sovle the WSR problem. The proposed optimal power allocation algorithm converges fast and it is shown that the NOMA-TWR-OPA scheme outperforms a NOMA benchmark scheme and conventional TWR schemes.

This paper addresses the problem of resource allocation in amplify-and-forward (AF) relayed OFDM based cognitive radio networks (CRNs). The purpose of resource allocation is to maximize the overall throughput, while satisfying the constraints on the individual power and the interference induced to the primary users (PUs). Additionally, different from the conventional resource allocation problem, the rate-guarantee constraints of the subcarriers are considered. We formulate the problem as a mixed integer programming task and adopt the dual decomposition technique to obtain an asymptotically optimal power allocation, subcarrier pairing and relay selection. Moreover, we further design a suboptimal algorithm that sacrifices little on performance but could significantly reduce computational complexity. Numerical simulation results confirm the optimality of the proposed algorithms and demonstrate the impact of the different constraints.
