Selecting optimal wind turbine generators for wind farm sites in the capacity factor point of view is performed in this study. A program to determine the best wind turbine generator for the maximum capacity factor for a site was developed. The program uses both the wind characteristics of the site of interest and the power curves of the wind turbines. The program developed was applied to find out optimal wind turbine generators of three different sites in complex terrain and successfully yielded the best site dependent wind turbine generators. It was also used to determine the best wind turbine generator of the wind farm currently operating in Korea and proved its usefulness. The program and methodology developed in this study considered to be very useful at the initial design stage of the wind farm to determine the best wind turbine generators for the site of interest.
Control of pitch angle of turbine blades is among the controlling methods in the wind turbines; this measure is taken for managing mechanical power generated by wind turbine in different wind velocities. Taking into account the high significance of the power generated by wind turbine and due to the fact that better performance of pitch angle is followed by better quality of turbine-generated power, it is therefore crucially important to optimize the performance of this controller. In the current paper, a PI controller is primarily used to control the pitch angle, and then another controller is designed and replaces PI controller through applying a new strategy i.e. alternating two ADALINE neural networks. According to simulation results, performance of controlling system improves in terms of response speed, response ripple, and ultimately, steady tracing error. The highly significant feature of the proposed intelligent controller is the considerable stability against variations of wind velocity and system parameters.

Recently, tidal current energy conversion is a promising way to harness the power of tides in order to meet the growing demands of energy utilization. A new concept of tidal current energy conversion device, named Vane Tidal Turbine (VTT), is introduced in this study. VTT has several special features that are potentially more advantageous than the conventional tidal turbines, such as propeller type tidal turbines. The purpose of this study on VTT is to analyze the possibility of extracting the hydrokinetic energy of tidal current and converting it into electricity, and evaluate the performance of turbines for various numbers of blades (six, eight and twelve) using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). At various tip-speed ratios (TSR), the six-bladed turbine obtains the highest power and torque coefficients, power efficiency is up to 28% at TSR = 1.89. Otherwise, the twelve blade design captures the smallest portion of available tidal current energy at all TSRs. However, by adding more blades, torque extracted from the rotor shaft of twelve-bladed turbine is more uniform due to the less interrupted generation of force for a period of time (one revolution).
Potential yield of micro wind turbine on the roof of urban high rise buildings is estimated. Urban wind profile is modeled as logarithmic profile above the mean building height with roughness length 0.8, displacement 7.5 m. Mean wind velocity from the meteorological agency data at the hight of 50m is used. Wind velocity changes are simulated on the rectangular roof of 26, 45, 53 degree pitch and the circular roof by computational fluid dynamics and RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence models. Wind velocity increased approximately by a factor of the order of 270 % on the 26 degree pitched roof. In the 100 m and 200 m high buildings, wind enhancement is greater at the front side than at the center of the building. In the building arrangement model wind velocity changes abruptly and it becomes wind gusts. When commercial wind turbines are installed on the building roof, average power and annual power generation enhanced by 3~4 times than normal wind velocity at 50m and 6 kw wind turbine can generate 1053 kwh per month on the 26 degree pitched roof at 50m height and sufficiently supply electrical power with 15 household for common electrical use and food waste disposer. However, power output will vary significantly by the wind conditions in the order of $\pm$ 20 %.
Power conversion cycles (Subcritical Steam, Supercritical Steam, Open Air Brayton, Recuperated Air Brayton, Combined Cycle, Closed Brayton Supercritical CO2 (sCO2), and Stirling) are evaluated for land-based nuclear microreactors based on technical maturity, system efficiency, size, cost and maintainability, safety implications, and siting considerations. Based upon these criteria, Air Brayton systems were selected for further evaluation. A brief history of the development and applications of Brayton power systems is given, followed by a description of how these thermal-to-electrical energy conversion systems might be integrated with a nuclear microreactor. Modeling is performed for optimized cycles operating at 3 MW(e) with turbine inlet temperatures of 500 ℃, 650 ℃ and 850 ℃, corresponding to: a) sodium fast, b) molten salt or heat pipe, and c) helium or sodium thermal reactors, coupled with three types of Brayton power conversion units (PCUs): 1) simple open-cycle gas turbine, 2) recuperated open-cycle gas turbine, and 3) recuperated and intercooled open-cycle gas turbine. Aeroderivative turboshaft engines employing the simple Brayton cycle and two industrial gas turbine engines employing recuperated air Brayton cycles are also analyzed. These engines offer mature technology that can facilitate near-term deployment with a modest improvement in efficiency.
The main reason for applying positive pressure variable clearance packing in fossil power plant is high efficiency and energy saving movement in the government. This study intends to analyze the turbine efficiency through the shaft packing improvement in thermal power plant and makes its comparison to that of the used packing.
This paper presents a simulation model and analysis of grid-tied wind turbine generator with batteries using the PSCAD/EMTDC software. The modeled system is consist of two inverters and one bidirectional DC/DC converter. These inverter are to capture the maximum active power under varying wind conditions and to keep the DC-Link voltage magnitude at a specific level. And the bidirectional DC/DC converter makes battery charging or discharging depend on power gap between wind turbine output and local load. Aerodynamic models are applied for a wind turbine blade simulator.
A special steels have been developed for the possible applications of turbine blade in nuclear power plant. The compositions of developed alloy were selected by the reference of imported alloy. The various properties such as tensile property, impact energy, hardness, and microstructures were investigated. All the properties of optimum heat treated materials were satisfied with the present specifications of turbine blade materials in unclear power plant. Furthermore, FATT(Fracture appearance transition temperature), high temperature tensile properties, and transformation temperatures of developed alloy also have been studied.
There are several bearing systems at the large steam-turbines in thermal power plant. The bearing system is one of the most important parts of rotating machinery. The steam turbine vibrations mainly depend on the bearing oil and the shaft alignment condition. This paper describes on the steam turbine abnormal vibration due to the oil whip in terms of the shaft alignment in the thermal power plant.
