In this paper, three current controllers for a grid-connected PCS using an LCL filter are compared and analyzed. Current controllers discussed in this paper are linear controllers such as PI (proportional-integral), PR (proportional-resonant), and DB (deadbeat) controller. Both transient and steady state responses of each controller are compared through both simulation and experiment. Although the DB controller has the fastest transient response and the lowest THD in the steady state, the DB controller has two cycles delay of current response in the steady state and has the stability problem which can be occurred due to variation of the system parameters. On the one hand the responses of PR controller are not much different from that of DB controller but the other hand that are not only strong to noise of grid current but also have smaller THD than PI controller. Considering the response time and stability issue of three controllers, the PR controller has the best performance among three controllers and thus can be strongly recommended as a current controller for a grid-connected PCS.
In general, the PSS/E program based on RMS mathematical models is used for analyzing the steady state and transient stability phenomena of full-scale large power system. Whereas, the EMTDC program unlike PSS/E, studies the specific reduced small-scale power systems as a basis of instantaneous value mathematical models and used to analyze the Electro-Magnetic transient characteristics. The PSS/E provides various control models such as exciter, governor, PSS models and TGOV5 model but there are few control models in EMTDC. In this paper, we developed EMTDC model for TGOV5 of a steam turbine and boiler which represents governor action, main, reheat and low-pressure effects, including boiler effects. The EMTDC model is developed by examining PSS/E control block and using User Define Model(UDM) in addition to default.lib provided by EMTDC. We verify the correctness of developed TGOV5 model with PSS/E and EMTDC simulation results using Governor Step(GSTEP) method.
This paper presents a fuzzy PD speed control scheme for the robust speed tracking of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Motivated by the common control engineering knowledge that transient performance can be improved if the P gain is big and the D gain is small in the beginning, a linearizing control scheme with a fuzzy PD controller is proposed. The global system stability is analyzed and the proposed control algorithm is implemented using a TMS320F28335 DSP. Simulation and experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The steam generator waste level control system in a nuclear power station has difficulty in its mathematical modeling and theoretical application in both a transient and steady state operation. Therefore, the stability problem of the conventional control methods brings many researches interests to the various methods of a system design in recent years. In this study, an improved loop shaping approach is proposed by applying the genetic algorithm to QFT (Quantitative Feedback Theory) in designing a control system in order to the performance of the system. And the effects of the proposed methods are shown by the simulation results.
In this paper, knowledge-based approach using Support Vector Machines (SVMs) are used for estimating the coordinated zonal settings of a distance relay. The approach depends on the detailed simulation studies of apparent impedance loci as seen by distance relay during disturbance, considering various operating conditions including fault resistance. In a distance relay, the impedance loci given at the relay location is obtained from extensive transient stability studies. SVMs are used as a pattern classifier for obtaining distance relay co-ordination. The scheme utilizes the apparent impedance values observed during a fault as inputs. An improved performance with the use of SVMs, keeping the reach when faced with different fault conditions as well as system power flow changes, are illustrated with an equivalent 265 bus system of a practical Indian Western Grid.

Phase shifter has been used as a means of power-flow control and for transient stability improvement in AC transmission system. Until now, phase shifters have been based on an injection transformer. Conventional phase shifters with tap changers require regular maintenance and allow only step-like control of the phase angle. This paper propose a three-phase phase shifter using PWM AC/AC converter, which can improve system response and control stability in the applications. This paper deals with the circuit topology, operating principle so that the features of the phase shifter will be shown through computer simulation, especially using PSIM software.

With the recent activation of the offshore wind power industry, there has been a development of power plants with a scale exceeding 400MW, comparable to traditional thermal power plants. Renewable energy, characterized by intermittency depending on the energy source, is a prominent feature of modern renewable power generation facilities, which are structured based on controllable inverter technology. As the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid expands, the grid codes for power system connection are progressively becoming more defined, leading to active discussions and evaluations in this area. In this paper, we propose a method for selecting optimal reactive power compensation capacity when multiple offshore wind farms are integrated and connected through a shared interconnection facility to comply with grid codes. Based on the requirements of the grid code, we analyze the reactive power compensation and excessive stability of the 400MW wind power generation site under development in the southwest sea of Jeonbuk. This analysis involves constructing a generation site database using PSS/E (Power System Simulation for Engineering), incorporating turbine layouts and cable data. The study calculates reactive power due to charging current in internal and external network cables and determines the reactive power compensation capacity at the interconnection point. Additionally, static and dynamic stability assessments are conducted by integrating with the power system database.

As the demand for high-rise buildings increases, the demand for high-speed elevators is also increasing. In order to make a high-speed elevator, a method is needed to reduce the weight of the elevator's components, which is a constraint on the increase in speed. As a measure to reduce the weight, it is possible to remove the traveling cable for power and signal supply. Since the weight of the traveling cable varies depending on the position of the carriage, it is difficult to compensate the weight using the counter weight. The power supply is a structure in which a brush-rail type power input terminal is installed in the elevator hoistway to receive power in a contact-type manner while the carriage is moving. If a small-capacity ESS is installed in a passenger car, power can be supplied uninterruptedly inside the passenger car. A small-capacity ESS charging system to be applied to such an elevator system is required to perform several functions. First, the passenger Car must be able to charge as much as possible even during high-speed operation. A control algorithm with high responsiveness is required because charging starts and ends repeatedly by the partially installed input power stage. In addition, if the input-side line impedance is large due to the structure of the system and the response characteristic is increased, the stability of the system may be lowered. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a control algorithm that has a stable steady-state output while having a fast response in a transient state. To verify the proposed control algorithm, simulation was conducted using PSIM, and the performance of the controller was verified by manufacturing a prototype buck conveter charger.

This paper describes the application of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) to Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) which can have significant impact on power system dynamics. The function of the FLC is to control the firing angle of the TCSC. We tuned the scaling factors of the FLC using Tabu Search. The proposed FLC is used for damping the low frequency oscillations caused by disturbances such as the sudden changes of small or large loads or the outages in the generators or transmission lines. To evaluate usefulness of the proposed FLC, we performed the computer simulation fur single-machine infinite system. The response of FLC is compared with that of PD controller optimized using Tabu Search. Simulation results that the FLC shows better control performance than PD controller.
