  • Power line noise in electrocardiogram signals makes it difficult to diagnose cardiovascular disease. ECG signals without power line noise are needed to increase the accuracy of diagnosis. In this paper, it is proposed DNN(Deep Neural Network) model to remove the power line noise in ECG. The proposed model is learned with noisy ECG, and clean ECG. Performance of the proposed model were performed in various environments(varying amplitude, frequency change, real-time amplitude change). The evaluation used signal-to-noise ratio and root mean square error (RMSE). The difference in evaluation metrics between the noisy ECG signals and the de-noising ECG signals can demonstrate effectiveness as the de-noising model. The proposed DNN model learning result was a decrease in RMSE 0.0224dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 1.048dB. The results performed in various environments showed a decrease in RMSE 1.7672dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 15.1879dB in amplitude changes, a decrease in RMSE 0.0823dB and a increase in signal-to-noise ratio 4.9287dB in frequency changes. Finally, in real-time amplitude changes, RMSE was decreased 0.3886dB and signal-to-noise ratio was increased 11.4536dB. Thus, it was shown that the proposed DNN model can de-noise power line noise in ECG.

  • Many residential areas are situated near to railroad tracks so that a railroad noise has been one of the major environmental issues. In this paper two important aspects have been investigated in order to properly evaluate the railroad vehicle noise : sound power levels for different types and sound propagation characteristics of the railroad vehicles. For noise source characteristics of railroad vehicles, sound power values for various types of trains that are in active service have been measured. In this paper, domestic railroad vehicles are measured and compared with high speed train(TGV). Based on sound power information of railway vehicles, prediction on the sound pressure level and equivalent noise level near to railway areas have been evaluated.

  • EPS(Electric Power Steering) system, which has replaced the hydraulic steering system(HPS or HPAS) in many passenger cars recently, have many merits such as low energy consumption, easy mounting, light weight and improvement of environmental pollution. However, EPS system has the problem of motor noise when motor is rotated, which can make a driver feel uncomfortable. There are many techniques to solve those problems, but they are not clear. It is necessary to evaluate the mechanical noise in steering systems, because an EPS has vibration sources such as at the motor gear reducer, manual gears and intermediate joints. In this paper, reduction technique of EPS motor noise is introduced.

  • Power supply noise is fundamentally caused by large current peaks. Since large current peaks are induced by simultaneous switching of many circuit elements, power supply noise can be minimized by deliberate clock scheduling which utilizes nonzero clock skew. In this paper, nonzero skew clock scheduling is used to avoid the large peak current and consequently reduce power supply noise. While previous approaches require extra characterization efforts to acquire current waveform of a circuit, we approximate it only with existing cell library information to be easily adapted to conventional design flow. A simulated annealing based algorithm is performed, and the peak current values are estimated for feasible clock schedules found by the algorithm. The clock schedule with the minimum peak current is selected for a solution. Experimental results on ISCAS89 benchmark circuits show that the proposed method can effectively reduce the peak current.

  • This paper presents the analysis and design of an active electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter (AEF) for the common-mode (CM) noise reduction of switching power converters. The features of the several types of AEFs are discussed and compared in terms of implementation. The feed-forward AEF with a voltage-sensing and voltage-cancellation (VSVC) structure is implemented for an LLC resonant converter to replace a multiple-stage passive EMI filter and thereby reduce CM noise. The characteristics and performance of the VSVC-type AEF are investigated through theoretical and experimental works.

  • The power system frequency plays an important role in monitoring and controlling the power system. The frequency can be measured through discrete Fourier transform (DFT) coefficients of its positive fundamental frequency. The accuracy of the frequency estimate is severely affected by noise in the power system signal and the leakage effect of the negative fundamental frequency in DFT. This paper proposes a DFT-based frequency estimation algorithm to cope with the noise as well as the leakage effect. In this algorithm, two suitable digital filters are introduced to reduce efficiently frequency estimate error due to the noise. These filters are designed to use a digital bandpass filter and a second-degree integrator. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in reduction of frequency estimate error is verified through simulations on noise, harmonics and frequency deviation.

  • A PDP(Plasma Display Panel) module consists of a discharge panel, a SMPS(Switched Mode Power Supply) for power supply, driving boards for panel control, and a logic board. Driving boards supply high voltage pulses to induce glow discharge in the PDP panel. The electrical pulses excite the circuit elements and subsequently generate acoustic noises. The main sources of the noise in the circuit are the transformer of SMPS and the power MOSFET(Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) of driving boards, and the heat sinks often amplify the noise level. The reduction of the acoustic noises was achieved by modifying both the structural and circuit elements. The structural method was executed by the improvement of heat sinks. The optimization of SMPS and condensers was carried out for the circuit elements.

  • Radiated noise from high frequency transformers (HTFs) of switching mode power supply is mainly caused by the leakage inductance and the parasitic capacitance of HTFs. Generally, the radiated noise can be reduced by adding snubbers to switching power circuits or shielding HTFs. Radiated noise, however, is mainly affected by the shielding method. In this paper, the various shielding methods to reduce the radiated noise of EMI are analyzed, compared in the experimental studies. And it is proved that the radiated noise can be reduced according to the shielding methods of HFTs and the electrical connection between shields and power circuit.

  • The noise is major obstacle element in power line communication. However, because power supply networks are not designed for communication, there are various noise sources. Accordingly, a study of characteristic and cause of noise generated in low voltage transformer is important for outdoor power line communication. In this paper, we measure low voltage transformer noise in 1-30MHz using spectrum analyzer. We analyze cause and pattern of noise considering partial discharge.

  • The existence of peroodic impulse noises in distribution line carrier (DLC) communication system is known to be the most serious obstacle for improving DLC communication quality in reliability and capacity. From the spectral points, impulse noises can be divided into baseband type and modulation type the noise width of whichs are much different each other. With each nose type, this study presents the basic characteristics in relation to what they originate from and how their spectrum properties are revealed. The baseband type impulse noise is normally caused from thyristor circuit running with low switching speed and the modulation type noise from the circuit of switching power supply. The base wave of modulation noise is shown to be the pulsuatic charging current to primary condenser in switching power circuit. The study result indicates also that placing the DLC carrier frequency away the band predominated by modulated noise especially from RCC type switching power circuit is very important in DLC design.
